Sorry it was such a frustrating shopping experience, Anne. I can empathize.

I think you are right about the bust-flattening, and in my experience it can be worse with coats that are fitted up top. But if they are NOT fitted you run into all kinds of other problems.

I wonder what's with the high waist/flare styling. Hmmm.

Looking forward to seeing your pics when you can take them.

Thanks Polly and Joy. Joy that does sound depressing!

Joy, I also found most coats quite bust flattening - presumably because of the heavy fabric. Do you find that an issue too?

It sounds like a good choice of coat under the circumstances. Maybe adding a long scarf will distract from the flare not being where you want it. I can understand your coat-hunting frustration. Living close to lots of stores I still have not found the wool false plain coat I want in two years of looking.

Well I have returned with a coat but it is not a 10. It is houndstooth, has some extras and is fitted in the upper body but annoyingly, in my opinion, flares out from a waistband on my ribcage.
These highwaisted coats were quite a feature of those out there which my longwaisted self did not appreciate. There were also lots of military and duffle coats on the shelves, which wasn't what I was after. So I nearly went out empty handed, but decided something was better than nothing (not really the YLF attitude, but remember how hard it is for me to get to shops) and bought the one I got as it was inexpensive - so doesn't have to be the perfect coat for the next 5 years.

Since I can't give you a photo I have been trying to find it online to link to to no avail. It is from Valley Girl and they have closed down their online shop.

So I am planning to set off to the city for my big winter shop in about 3 hours. My big ticket items to buy are heels (already extensively discussed on YLF!) and a new winter coat. I have mentioned the coat before but am asking again in case any australians have happened to see any coats recently that are
*false plain
*fitted in the body, hopefully by the style of the coat, not by a belt
*seem to have something extra in the way of style (not just a basic)
* wool or wool look

I am up against in for time so any help will be greatly appreciated! Even just a recommendation for shops that are good to look at would be helpful ( I am going to a Westfield shopping centre.)
