Oh, this is the best exercise ever, Mo!

These are my last 4 purchases:

Liz Claiborne puffer sweater

3-Way romper/pants/top

Black Vince Camuto Kina peep-toe booties

Tan Vince Camuto Kemba peep-toe booties

One of the booties may go back, once they arrive (or both, if 4" proves to be too high for me). I lean toward the Kembas, because they're plainer, but I would have preferred them in black.

In terms of style direction - I think I've been reading Refinery 29 newsletters too much. Lol. Sad, but true. Any moment now, I'll be wearing wellies, no socks, and shorts, while standing on a lakeside dock.

How fun to see what everyone has recently gotten and where they think it means they're headed, or staying the course for some of you.
Once I add my sci-fi ish tote to the mix I really see the accessories edge come into the forefront. So interesting to me, since I conversely ditched several edgier, hardware laden articles of clothing recently (like my zipper cargo cords, etc).

My last 4 purchases are
1. navy Cons hi-ness
2. winter white Rag and Bone rally skinnies
3. Hinge mesh knit sweater
4. Joes distress black skinnies with mesh inserts
The first two are trends that I didn't think I'd adopt initially but then I found the versions that play well in my closet. The last two just expand on my love of rateness and layering.

Fun question! My last few purchases:

1. Vintage Paul Castelloe tweed fishtail skirt off eBay. Damn, this is a sexy skirt! You may not be able to see it in the picture, but this skirt has a dramatic fishtail to it. It really goes with the lady professor/tweedy bombshell look I'm trying to hone. Can't wait to wear this when the weather gets colder with a chocolate roll neck, my rust corduroy jacket and my lady professor shoes!

2. Monsoon purple/cerise textured pattern dress off eBay. Bought because I needed a few more summer dresses (as mentioned on harmonica's summer dress thread), but I think this dress is really going to punch above its weight. It's formal enough to wear for parties and receptions and I can envisage myself reaching for it time and time again due to the colour and pattern. I wore this to my future brother-in-law's 18th birthday party and my fiancé told me I looked so pretty

3. Marks & Spencer tan leather wedge sandals: http://www.marksandspencer.com.....#038;ref=s I needed a pair of comfortable, elegant wedge sandals in a warm neutral for day to day wear.

4. Navy scallop fit and flare dress from Dorothy Perkins http://www.dorothyperkins.com/.....=&cat Again, needed another dress to wear at weekends.

Well, with the exception of the first item, all of the above were purchases to fill wardrobe holes. But I feel I'm going in the right direction as far as colour/silhouette goes and that even an item I bought as a basic (#2) has some great pattern and texture going on.

What a funny 4. The jacket is Herringbone Sydney and it has polka dotted full lining-see sleeves freshly rolled back and creased because I wore it to a work event today. Vince Camuto flats. Needed new black ones and ended up buying the fuchsias too because the markdown sale boiled down to 2 for 1. The leather bag is a WW11 message bag, handmade and really well maintained -as the army is want to do.
I think they are in keeping with my preference for authenticity, modern classic and a bit of regal Satorialist. I think I may be a Modern, Purist Consort. MPC.

My last few purchases were all blazers/jackets/cardis or below the hip length tops... I had already posted on my hip length tops driving me batty So these new tops are mostly tanks to layer beneath my toppers...
The concept of wearing a jacket or any other 3rd piece was alien to me when I stayed in India. The weather in Norway kind of mandates this and thus all this scrambling for toppers :D

Great idea for a thread Mo!

My last four purchases have been my bone/silver sandals, white blazer, metallic Eileen Fisher top and my quilted cobalt/cream handbag. I think this shows I'm participating in trends like sci-fi and white but not overly so and that accessories like shoes and handbags are always a focus in my wardrobe.

For me it's been pretty much all classics with a natural tone to them except the last which is to help my "dressy" capsule.

1. Linen/Cotton Blazer in Chambray
2. Linen Blazer in Flax
3. BR Linen Shirts in White (bought a backup of the white), Blue and Stripe4. 3. Light tan summer tassle bag
4. Silk top in navy with white dots (not here yet)

What a fun thread!

My last four purchases are my Zara Chinoiserie jacket, my Zara kimono, my CM blue slouchy shorts, and Hilary Radley silk tunic from Costco.

Where might might style be going based on these?

Into the blues!

To be honest, I don't think these represent any kind of style departure for me. They reflect the fact that I have bought into the "unstructured structure" idea and several of this year's trends. Also, my goal of finding summer tops in natural fibres.

Fun thread! I have bought one or two accessories and a couple of repeat buys. I have a pair of dark wash straight leg jeans which fit me well so I bought two more pairs and I bought a second pair of mint Cons as I have worn the first pair a lot and I realised that it is perhaps a one-season colour and may not be repeated next season. They go with a lot of my separates. I also got a white belt and necklace. I got some ponte knit trousers to wear on the plane when I went to Greece a couple of weeks ago, but I think they will get a fair bit of wear now I'm back home.
I think my Cons and jean/trouser purchases mean that I am getting a better handle on my casual wardrobe needs and the belt and necklace purchased are my realisation of the power of accessories in an outfit.

My last few purchases:

The purple stripy tunic-tee that I wore to the rock concert on the weekend.
A very lightweight black high-low tunic that I haven't worn yet.
(Both tunics will work well with skinnies and leggings)
A pair of flat black shoes (that I worry maybe a little ye'olde'ladyish but they're comfy and I think they will work)
My oversize blue top.

So mine has been, I guess, about defining a silhouette which I think works well for me - volume over fitted, replenishing basics and adding colours that YLF have been so encouraging about.

What an interesting exercise - analysing purchases like that!

I've realised I haven't done much shopping lately. Not for myself anyway. So my latest purchases go back a while.

1. Mid blue straight jeans

2. Mid blue skinny jeans

3. Off white and olive stripe merino

4. Aubergine-ish strapless dress for a wedding (got a bit desperate and it was a fab colour and super bargain, but only felt 50% in it. Shape wasn't quite right)

So most of my buys were much needed classic basics which have transformed my wardrobe and made it usable again. My style isn't changing hugely except that I'm enjoying less fussiness, and a more tonal look - still colour but repeating the same ones in an outfit rather than combining too many.

Hm, my last four purchases haven't arrived yet, so they could turn out to be returns. But I guess I'd say I'm adding classic stuff. Button front shirt, tan blazer, metallic sandals, black trench.

Still waiting on black booties (hopefully a black alternative to the Report Marks, which a re a Rae Classic). Then there are two ASOS dresses, which are kind of middle of the road, simple shapes but trendier prints. We'll see how it goes... sleeved dresses are great for work, but I am not sure if I can keep them. I'd have to purge some other things to keep the closet in check.

My style must be embracing more volume. My last purchase was a loose weave boxy short pullover sweater at H&M. Before that was a thrifted oversized summer navy jacket of in a silk/linen blend. Then there's the volume on the skirt of the Eileen Fisher lantern dress and some boxy tops I've tried with it.

My last four purchases that I know are keepers:

- Michael Kors rose gold watch. Team Wear. I had five links removed from the band and wore it out of the store. Been eyeing it for a while.

- the black Girls from Savoy/Anthro dress that I've already worn twice in less than a week.

- the black and white spotted fedora I stumbled upon today (I was looking for a thin belt but got a hat instead)

- the paisley print Asos shirtdress I posted last week

I have a couple of other recent purchases that are in a holding pattern with tags on, waiting for more evaluation before I decide to keep or return. I bought two contenders today for a new basic black tee (my old one is 4 or 5 years old and starting to look it), and I haven't yet made a final decision on the green maxi dress, although I'm leaning toward keep.

Not sure what these mean for my style evolution. Definitely two summer basics, plus a total fun item, and a year-round fun basic in the watch that I hope to wear for years to come.

I see myself purchasing workhorse classics for fall, (as I am pretty set for summer and my summer is pretty short and very casual), and adding some grey/neutrals. (I have lots of cool tones-blues/black/purple/red already in my wardrobe) Also, Since I'm back in the workout mode, I don't want to buy too many fitted pieces until end of summer for fit reasons--so its knits and shoes!

Style-wise I find myself heading for more streamlined feel, I am trying to refresh my wardrobe a bit to add a bit of structure and edge, while keeping a bit of an urban/eclectic feel. and I'm trying to replace some worn booties with ones that could potentially be travel-go everywhere types.

I surprised myself by really liking the zebra-stripe dress, its all over, body-con pattern is not something I usually wear! (I have not worn it yet)

1. Michael Kors Zebra stripe faux wrap dress
2. Rockport Chelsea Boots
3. Helmut Land drape Tank
4. Taupe Ankle boots
5. DKNY leather front leggings

Ooo! Fun question. OK, let's see...my latest four purchases were, from most recent down:

1. Replacement charcoal boyfriend cardigan. I wore the last one out. This one has a screen print of the back of an anatomical skeleton (skull/torso) on it. No change there -- I got it from a shop that does interesting botanical/zoological silkscreens on their stuff. The skull/torso print is one of my favourites. Sort of straddles the line between technical illustration and 19th century gothic horror. I have that print on a black blouse too.

2. Military green Rag and Bone canvas skinnies, with interesting pocket details. Not much change there either -- I'm a fan of casual skinny jeans, so these aren't a big jump. I'm moving more and more towards military green these days. I've always quite liked it, but now I can't seem to get enough of it. It goes great with black, gray and white, colours which are heavily represented in my wardrobe. So that's kind of new I guess.

3. Replacement tiny silver hoop for one of my ear piercings. No change.

4. Black J. Crew wool suit jacket, to wear with jeans and a tee shirt. Classic cut, falls at low hip, subtly shaped at waist for a woman's figure. Same cut as the heather gray one I got last fall, which I have worn a lot. I'm new to blazers (the gray one was my first proper one), but they feel right for my style. In this at least I am branching out.

5. White button-front 3/4 sleeve classic shirt. To add to my growing collection of shirts!

Hmm, seems like my style isn't moving forward very fast, but I'm moving slowly towards more pulled-together, less girlish looks. Still prefer to stay away from bright colours and bohemian flowiness, but now there are adult silhouettes -- blazers, shirts with collars -- to add to the casual mix of knit tops and jeans that I've always favoured.

I don't know style-wise, but I have shocked myself by buying colour. I seriously have worn black and neutrals for years now, so bright colours are such a departure for me.

But my clothing will have to be a little more practical in the future since at the end of the last school year I took a job as a substitute teacher aid (I actually became qualified to substitute teach, but chickened out on being alone in a classroom!). I will need practical items where I can play on the floor with preschoolers and/or supervise bus boarding.

I am going straight into boho territory! Weird, for me, but I think it is going toward my romantic side. Plus I have gained about 8 pounds in last couple of months (still not sue what the heck is going on with my stress eating!) so the looser styles feel good.

I've been buying basics in maternity wear just to have enough clothes to get through the next 4 months so I don't think my purchases reflect my style or where I want to go with it.

However, I just want to say that I love the metal detailed shoes you bought and have been thinking about something similar.

I'm not sure where I'm heading - but I do recognize some shifts in my style from where I used to be. I have pretty much identified "my" colors - and that has made my wardrobe much more cohesive -easier shopping and making decisions on items as well. I also have not been in a vintage clothing store for over a year. I'm just not into it anymore - nor am I in to quirky, whimsical, eccentric - all styles that I used to dabble in. I am much more interested in trendy items than ever before. I don't know if that means my style is becoming more trendy, or if its just a natural consequence of SYC for over 2 years and now I'm trying to update my wardrobe, or, if it means that the trends this year have just really appealed to me and so I've bought (literally) into them a hundred percent! I do still like "different" - whatever that means? Also, I have embraced my sporty nature much more these past 6 months - and instead of trying to fight that I'm an athlete and love to move my body (and sweat!) - I'm dressing in a more sporty manner which makes me feel comfy and true to myself. I'm also just accepting the fact that I LOVE distressed items - denim and leather and metal. I used to try to stay away from distressed anything (try is the key word here!) - because I thought that it wasn't elegant or mature enough for my age. But now - well what the heck. I love it - and it works for my casual lifestyle. I'm also much more open to classic items and recognize the importance of them in my wardrobe - I have a much greater appreciation for them than in the past! Thank you for starting this thread Mo - its really been a nice "exercise" for me to try to identify where my style has been heading these days!

Fun question!

1. White button up with knit panels - can be worn casually or dressed up for work
2. Red seamed pencil skirt - trying to get better fitting, slightly longer skirts for work
3. Fuschia linen blazer - I've been searching for a colored blazer to add a fun element to dressier outfits!
4. Blue loafers - Tried these on in NYC and have been stalking them online till they went on sale. They are perfect in every way.

These pieces seem to be leading me to a crisper, more classic, and versatile style. I believe that I'm moving away from buying random pieces and trying to buy what I know will work together and with what I already have. My style seems to be a minimalist modern classic.

Oh, this is fun and interesting.

Not counting the trench that is being returned:
1. red Fluevog Giulias
2. Gap broken in straight linen pants in olive
3. Gap white tee
4. (have just received today, may do K/R but I'm liking them on first impression) grey converse hi-ness

Interesting. The first 2 (red fluevogs and green linen pants) are things I've literally been looking for for years (and I've had similar things in the past) so in that sense my style seems to be remarkably consistent. the other 2 (white tee and cons) are pretty far out of my comfort zone. I haven't owned a white tee in years, and I never thought I'd buy Cons.

So, maybe I am dabbling in All-American girl style? Or re-exploring my California girl roots? Or perhaps just heeding Angie's advice and adding some classic pieces to ground my statement pieces? My style does seem less consistent in general in the summer... all that arty layering doesn't do so well in heat and humidity.

Interesting! I will post the last 4 things I bought and am keeping - otherwise it's a bunch of returns.

I think I am staying true to my origins, but looking at different fabrications (love silk).

More bright colours and less funky patterns.
