Get a BRIGHT color or pattern if possible. They are much easier to find in an airport.

We've had good luck with Macy's clearance pieces from Victorinox and the better lines of TravelPro. It's always YMMV, but with good timing and a coupon we got even the largest (max size allowed with no upcharge) for for $120 and under.

My fave luggage piece, though, has to be a large purple softside wheeled piece we pulled from our neighbor's trash pile while dog walking one evening. It was right before my daughter went abroad for 5 months and I was reluctant to let her take my nice big suitcase 2.5 years later that trashcase has been to Europe 3 times, along with various domestic trips. It's still going strong (for her) and the bonus is no one would ever want to steal it!!

Mary, I can also recommend Samsonite.

We travel a lot,and these bags have held up really well. They also have worldwide guarantees. Not sure that they come in pretty colours, but I agree with AnnaG, you do need to pay to get something really durable.

I want a Victorinox too! First bag I'll buy when I have the money. My mum travels a lot for work and she has a Victorinox bag. I was able to borrow it for one trip I did last year and I almost cried when I had to give it back to her.

I have a Victorinox too. I love it.

It was a grad gift from my dad - and well, it's been a LONG time since Grad and it has been very many places with me

You will spend over $100 per bag, but I guarantee it will be the best luggage you have ever owned. Each piece has a lifetime (yes, lifetime) guarantee, so if the handle ever gets jiggly or a wheel wobbles, you get a new suitcase - no questions asked. Plus, they have the BEST suiter I have ever used. It holds several pieces, has built in bars to prevent wrinkling, easily detaches from the luggage to hang in a hotel closet, and has mesh accessory compartments.

I used to travel constantly (my level was something crazy like triple A, five star, double platinum, diamond encrusted titanium winged flyer) for work and these were and still are my bags. Victorinox by the Swiss Army company. I own both Werks Traveler and Avolve. Both lines are amazing, but it sounds like you'd prefer Avolve.

TJ Maxx. But I discovered the hard way you pay for what you get in cheap luggage.

Hey, ladies! I have a few trips coming up and am looking for a new suitcase or two. My requirements are that it be a 4-wheel "spinner," and also that it have a built-in garment bag or "suiter" compartment. If it were a pretty color or pattern, that would be a nice bonus. Oh, and I don't want to spend much over $100 per bag.

Any suggestions?
