Hi WB --

I actually think you'll be best off picking and choosing from a variety of body shape suggestions to find what proportions and styles work best on you.

[Sorry, wanted to give an easier answer!]

Your overall look is very balanced, and you're blessed with having something most Rectangles and ITs lack -- a perky posterior/defined S curve in profile.

So Hourglass/Pear strategies may be useful in some ways, Rectangle/IT ones useful in others.

I do see a lovely curve outward at your lower hip, which means you don't have to worry about failing to fill out A-line skirts as I (straight-hipped Rectangle with HG/Pear tendencies) do.

I'd just experiment with shapes and see what appeals to you. You can always ask for feedback here, too. Good luck during this time of transition!

Thank you everyone!

Now the question is, how do I modify the dressing tips for being small-chested? Use the cowl necks, low scoopnecks and low square necks that flatter small chested Pears?

Frannieb: I wear elastic-waist pants and low-rise pants and very, very rarely I can find a high-waisted pair that fits everywhere okay, but yes, I have a lot of dressing room rejects that have a gap at the low back or don't get over my hips when the legs fit fine. Over time I've gotten a feel for what shaped of pants to just walk past on the rack.

I agree you are not a pear but you probably have a heck of a time finding pants because you have a curvy backside - not so much because of hips. This may be why you think you are a pear shape.

I see inverted triangle too. Slight and strong. Welcome to the forum.

I see inverted triangle/rectangle, as, seen from the front, your shoulders look slightly wider than your hips. You don't necessarily have to be busty to fit this shape.
I'd look back at Angie's body shape guidelines and pick out the pieces of advice that seem to relate best to your shape, remembering that many of us are a mix of two or three.

I see inverted triangle. You are a slight frame, but have a lovely strong shoulder line. But I think a lot of body shapes overlap into each other. I will be interested to here what everyone else thinks! What styles do you think suit you best?

I'd say rectangle / inverted triangle but I'm no expert. At any rate, your top and bottom balance each other very well, which leads me to think hourglass or rectangle. Your shoulders look like mine, and I think of myself as an inverted triangle (I have fewer curves on the bottom, and more on top, though). I don't think bustiness is necessary, but maybe I'm misinterpreting the definitions.

Also, you look uncannily like my college roommate - features, haircut, body shape and all. Though she dyes her hair bright blue.

Okay, starting this thread again, with pictures!

My measurements:
shoulder - 39"
bust - 32"
waist - 27"
hip - 37"

Without the shoulder measurement I show up as a Pear. I seem to be more of an Inverted Triangle shape with the shoulder measurement, but as you can see, I am not busty. Since most of my hip measurement is on my backside, I wonder if I'm actually not just a Rectangle with wide shoulders? I have a bit more bust shape with a bra, but chose to go with my natural shape here.

I've gone through a bit of transition with motherhood, divorce, relocating to a new state, and trying to get back into work I've been out of for a while, which has made me lost style-wise and searching for a way to update my style.

Thank you for the help in advance!
