Tanya - good to know Matisse makes a comfy shoe. My feet aren't too fussy but as I get older I find shoes that aren't super comfy get a pass.

Kkards - oh how I wish I could order from Zappos! I used them for the find but I'm in Canada so I'd probably order from shoeme which seems to work well for some on the forum. Haven't tried shoeme before - I really don't like to buy footwear online but sometimes there's just no choice.

Janet - how I'd love to find a pair that adjusts on the first strap AND zips up the back. I haven't been able to find such an animal. I could see my lazy birk-wearing self getting frustrated by tying every time! Those finds are great and you have great taste in footwear - I just don't do heels much!

Suz - for daily wear I only do flat footwear. How I love it when I can find flat footwear that looks good and adds a style element when the rest of the outfit is ho-hum because it's so hot and humid. We were lucky last summer with temps but I can't imagine that kind of summer is here to stay. Not sure what this year will bring but I've been trying for the past couple of summers to not look like I totally gave up for 2-3 months!

Vix - suede is more forgiving! I hadn't even thought of that - good point. Sandals are a strange animal in the fit department. In closed shoes /boots I usually do 6.5 (which is probably cheating to accommodate my wide foot). That strategy just doesn't fly with sandals. And, of course, when I go down a size it just gets narrower, add swelling feet and it's no wonder why I love my birks!

Hi Kerry --

No experience with the brand, but as someone with your type of feet these seem like a good an option for lace-ups.

I'm so gunshy after mistakes with strappy shoes cutting into my super-high arched "oh hey, you decided to swell like crazy" feet that I'm leery of lace-ups in general. But I love suede for its forgiveness/softness and since you can control the tightness instantly seems like a good bet!

Haven't tried those but they look great. For myself, I can't wear a completely flat shoe, but if you can, go for it!

Those are cute, and I would think they'd be really versatile -- great with shorts, dresses, jeans...

I bought a pair of lace-up sandals that have a zip up the back (the first Find below) -- this helps to not have to completely re-lace and re-tie them each time I take them off or put them on. One other pair I tried on only had laces and were definitely a bit more work, plus they were not as comfortable.

But I agree that the lace-up style is really good for accommodating a variety of foot widths and volumes. My feet are pretty low-volume, so it's nice to be able to tighten the laces a bit so I don't feel my feet flopping around inside the sandals.

cute sandals ---give them a try--after all zappos makes it easy to try and return is you decide they aren't right for you.

I like to try trendy footwear, especially in summer when the clothes are mainly used for staying cool, not to make a fashion statement. Often, I'll try a cheap version first to "try on" the trend. This year I'd like to try lace-up sandals. At first I thought they'd be a pain to put on (summer needs to be easy!) but decided to try the ON ones. I sent them back because they were too long in the smallest size. They did, however, make me realize the brilliance in this type of shoe - adjustability in the width for my slightly wide and "prone to swelling in the summer heat" foot. The problem is not all of these lace-ups have adjustability across the first strap where I need it.

Cue these sandals (Matisse) - more money than I wanted to spend at first but now that I realize I can sort of customize the fit - maybe worth the $.

What do you think of these? Has anyone tried them? Or this brand?
