I think the snugger the fit, the better, as long as you don't get the leg version of muffin top. Mine stick out about a centimeter, which isn't too bad. I think that's pretty much the limit for me though.

Marianne, I actually got a pair of LC's that fit, but I cannot for the life of me find them online anywhere. The style is "Laren." Googling yields not a single result. I found them at Lord and Taylor, but they're not listed there either. This was last year so they're probably just not available anymore. I had to try on several pairs, and be disappointed many times before I found them though. They still weren't ideal (I had wanted brown boots with some kind of buckle or embellishment), but at that point I knew I couldn't be too picky.

The other boots I got are from Boden. Both of them stick out a little bit, but not enough to be noticeable. Here are the LC ones:

http://img.photobucket.com/alb.....G_0992.jpg

So you can see they're not snug against my calf, but they're not so big that it looks funny. They look kind of weird against my bare leg, but they're not the kind of boots I would wear with skirts anyway. I'll try and take a picture of the Boden ones, which I do wear with skirts, sometime this week when I go shopping in my closet.

Oh, and I don't know if there are guidelines on how the boots should fit, I would be interested in that too. I always thought snug is better. If it's leather it should relax a little, right?

Boots + clamdiggers sounds interesting. I'll keep that in mind, too!
Maya, is there a particular brand that you buy for your small calves? I am looking for flat or small heel that I could wear with casual skirts. I've tried and liked campers that looked and fit well, but they were insanely expensive and I wasn't sure if they would handle our rainy winter.

Thanks for the info Maya. I just measured my calves at the "meatiest" part and they're 14.5" so I think 15" should be okay. I usually have the opposite problem in that boot circumferences are too small for me. How are boots "meant" to fit? I've never really seen this information anywhere.

I also have the ankle boot version of the Tahra. To be honest I'm not a huge fan of it but they're incredibly comfortable so I don't care. I think they look MUCH better in the tall version, and I actually really wanted to get those, but I have very small calves and they would have been huge. Wearing my boots over skinny jeans doesn't really help. There's still some gapping, but I'm used to it. As long as it doesn't look like I'm swimming, it's fine.

I have four pairs of boots but I need a pair that's a little dressier. The ones I have now are either flat or ankle boots. The Tahra would have been perfect if it wasn't for the huge calf. It will probably be the next thing I buy, once winter comes around again.

Marianne, I'm not sure if it would work for you--but I am planning on wearing the clamdiggers in place of skinny jeans with knee high boots on the fall. Since they're so long on me (unrolled), I think this will work out well, and I'll just wear long socks. You might give this a try when you get some boots.

Thanks again Ana! Yeah, for some reason all smaller calf LC boots tend to be suede, and that's not going to work in our winter, even though they're supposed to be waterproof. I did check zappos after I received them. The Fidelity ones look nice, I am just not sure about the wedge heel. I guess I'll wait until fall for a better selection, I was just so disappointed. BTW I really like the look of Tahra boots, too - very elegant.
Julia, I did think about this, but to tell the truth I don't own any skinny jeans... it would be an excuse to get a pair!

Marianne, I just looked on Zappos and it says the circumference for the Passions is 15" and PL has it as 13". They have the wrong information up. That's too bad! On Zappos the smallest circumference for the LCs are these, which is 12 1/2":

http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/28454329/c/106.html

These have 13" Circumference:

http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/18624650/c/72.html

13 3/4":

Not sure if it's what you are looking for or not. These have 14 1/2":

I ordered LC Passion from Piperlime last week and I was so bummed when I got them! They were absolutely beautiful boots but the calf was way too big. The description on the site says it's 13'' but it was at least 15''. I always have trouble finding knee high boots and I was really excited about these. I hope there will be smaller calf models in the fall, or maybe I'll try ankle boots.

Thanks for the reassurance, guys! I think Patience is right when she says they have a sort of 19th Century/vintage feel, and maybe that was why I thought they were "granny" shoes. I really like them though, and it's good to know you got a lot use out of them, and the leather is nice, Patience. Hey, did you get your delivery from J. Crew yet?

Aw Lisa, thanks for the compliments! I want to start a thread soon about the shawl collar sweaters. I know Patience got the green and I'm excited to see you guys in them.

I got these boots in the lower ankle style last fall and I absolutely love them. I would never have thought I would go for something like this-- they make me think 19th century-- but they are so different and the leather is fantastic.

Thanks for the tip Nicole! Hey, speaking of LC, I like the look of the "Tahra" boots on Zappos:

http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/28454016/c/72.html

because the heel is round and not squared off, and the toe box is more slim and round as well. But I'm looking at these, and I'm wondering--do these look like granny boots? The only other ones I can find that are similar are suede, and I really don't want suede boots, I'd rather have a matte leather. What do you guys think?
