Thanks!
JG , it can be complicated! I haven't worn them in awhile and haven't this year either , and they're not for everyday wear, really, so it could be that they remain a hypothetical outfit!
But, posting has helped me see I don't feel actually blocked by keeping them, the way some items do.

Advising others to purge is almost as uncomfortable as purging my own clothes. So I felt relieved when I saw outfit 3 and liked it. But even better, I love outfit 4! (Feel free to question my judgment in light of the admission above. Note to self: Get help.)

Are you able to post a picture with heels and a tucked top? I was going to say to give the pants away, but there are a lot of comments here about how to make them work. I'd love it to be a teaching moment (OK, thinking only of myself here...).

The pants look fine, and are a good indicator that you can really rock the wide-legged look. I think that there are probably other wide-legged pants out there that will showcase your figure more than this particular pair does.

Thanks, parkmommychic and gradfashionista!
Thank you, Angie!
So I'm hearing not these particular pants, but maybe some future find? Actually they may not fit as well at the top as they used to, and that has to be just right for tucking, so it may be that I forgot the first rule of editing.

Another vote for high waisted pants with a tucked top. I'm excited to see you try that silhouette.

I agree with parkmommychic, and with Suz. These might work with high heels, but I wouldn't wear them with flats. High waisted wide-legged pants and flares would be super flattering.

I think the decision has already been made in your subconscious since you haven't worn them for so long - but I do not like to let items linger in my closet, so my opinion is biased! Suz is right though, you could totally do the wide leg pant style with panache.

Thank you, Suz! Those are helpful thoughts. ( Well thevpart i csn read!) Im finding things I got Pre- YLF might be okay or not, but I wasn't using the same" eyes" then and so might have got something partly right but missed the big boat. Or that I was not playing up the right aspect in styling and so now I'd be more particular about combinations.

Maybe before I even asked the question I should have tried other tops& things and then it would have been clear! Without long legs and high heels I agree that the line needs to continue to the top
that's a good observation even for outfits not this extreme.

You would look awesome in high waisted wide leg pants like this. But with the low rise and low heels, I don't think they do you a lot of favours unless maybe you wear them as a column of colour. That's what my eye sees, for what it is worth. It's because you are long waisted and willowy -- a nice thing ! But one you want to play up in a particular way.

In the ongoing wardrobe edit, a few things are pulling me back, so I need YLF intervention!

These are Anne Klein wide-leg trousers, ? maybe 4-5 year ago purchase. They are a very fine lightweight wool fabric and fitted in the waist. Very wide as you can see. I had worn them in my sort-of dressy capsule—festive, evening, but not typically formal/cocktail. (Not worn with this sweater shown, but with dressy short tops)

I haven’t worn them in 2 years and don’t feel like wearing them now with so much tapered/skinny for comparison. However, if they had “longevity” maybe I’d keep them for when the pendulum swings.

Hmmm, from the photos, they maybe aren't so flattering! I think they look better "in motion" but really, are they duds, or just out of style, or both? I can manage a 2" heel but probably the fashionista way with a truly wide leg would be 4" heels. So maybe that should be included in my now and future evaluations of what works or not, for me.

My question was, is this just the sort of thing that will never be right as-is but will have to be re-purchased as updated wide pants if I ever want to wear that style again? Because maybe these really aren't that great now, or later.

Or can it be part of an accumulated party-wear capsule in which a few things are lying “fallow” but still have a future?

Or, door number 3, is this a great example of how I shouldn’t buy anything quite so extreme, ever.

As part of this question, I’m really having to re-think party and cocktail capsules. I may need to overlap much more with work-wear, as in, identify the dressiest type of thing I could still wear to work, but with no imbedded bling or sparkle, and so the clothing itself would be "modern" as per being in current rotation, but I would do all the gussying-up with just footwear and accessories. I know that seems obvious, e.g., the classic LBD, but I haven’t overlapped there much in the past.

ETA:

Here are some examples of tucked-in tops I might wear with high-waisted, wide-legged pants of some sort:

--fitted top—fitted-over-volume--not as much in my comfort zone, but the top was for under a jacket.

--oversized camp shirt—volume over volume

--fluid-tailored fit sweater of some sort.

Shown with my highest heels--party shoes only.

I guess one has to decide whether to wear the silhouette as wide all the way down, as these are, vs. more fitted through the thigh and flared at bottom. The waist and hip fit is good on these, but they are voluminous throughout, with pleats.
