Denise, I love the paisley skirt on you and the regular length looks fashionable and modern (still LOL at Claire's "legs" comments!). What a smart idea to get the matching blouse. I have the Polly Popover (like Angie, Inge and Laura) and I had to buy a 00. We've had the lucky pleasure of meeting, so I hope by know this that the 4 works for you. That's the problem with "sales" items at J. Crew; you have to buy it without really knowing, although, fyi, I did make an online purchase of a sales item and was able to return it in-store without a problem, so often times they do honor the returns. As for the khakis, you're better off finding a perfect pair and I have to say I love that orange top. What brand it is?

Please post the "shirt dress" look when you can!

Yes, I was very pleased with a recent experience at J Crew. They helped me locate a sold out item, the customer service was above and beyond. I am glad it worked for you.

Thank you Claire and others for suggesting a price adjustment! I wouldn't have tried if not for your encouragement. They are crediting the difference back into my account, even though I paid with cash.

The customer service was excellent (I handled it via the 800 number). These recent J Crew purchases were the first in at least 10 years. This positive experience goes a long way in making me want to shop there again.

I just bought the paisley silk popover in size 4 regular. Hoping it will fit, it's not returnable.

I echo the WOWs on the skirt - beautiful style and fit. Pants are cool casual, but the fit experts seem to say something is off. If you're not quite sure of them either, I'd vote to keep searching!

Pretty skirt! Did you order the top? If you want to wear it as a tunic sometimes, I'd err on the larger size. If you always intend to tuck it in to the skirt, then smaller might work better.

As fellow frustrated pants hunter, pity about these, Denise! Loved the theory...

However, LOVE the skirt as is! GREAT length, I think, hitting just right, above the calf --- you look so leggy in that (short-legged me didn't think anyone could in a non-mini skirt!).

Love, love, love the skirt. Pants don't fit as well as your other fab pants. Not up to your high standard! As far as the popover, I bought one just a few weeks ago, and I am usually between a S and XS and the XS was much better. Hope that helps.

That skirt is just wonderful on you, Denise! I love the length as is, and don't think I would like it nearly as much if it were shorter. I love it with the white shirt and the yellow belt.

The idea of the pants is fine, but they're not outstanding.

I tried on a similar popover top and on me it fit TTS, but my shoulders are not narrow, so I don't know how it would be on you.

If you just got that skirt and now it's on sale, I would call them and see if they'll adjust the price. Nordstrom just did that for me on pants that were marked down 50% right after I bought them at full price. Can't hurt to ask!

LOVE the skirt (length is fab!) and am glad you're keeping it. I think the pants issue could be solved by having the waist altered, but agree with others that it's probably only worth doing if you love the pants.

Denise, I have broad shoulders and I found the J.Crew popover (I had the B&W version of Angie's) to run quite large. Normally, I size up in tops to a 10 or even a 12 in outerwear, but I took an 8, though the 6 fit similarly. There's a lot of fabric through the body of the silk popover.

Thanks girls! So I am keeping the J Crew skirt, which I purchased at retail last week. Now, frustratingly, it is 30% or $30 less, but you can't win 'em all, can you? I think I am going to get the matching silk shirt so I can make a shirt dress out of this.

http://www.jcrew.com/browse/si.....316ccdee2a

By the size chart, I should get the 6 to fit my bust but I am afraid that the shoulders will be too big, my shoulders are pretty narrow. Does anyone know how J Crew silk popovers fit? I'm thinking the 4 might work best. This is a non-returnable item.

LOVE the skirt. It is fab. If you think you might like a shorter one better, is the petite available in your size? Alternatively, wear this one as is and then hem it later on if you decide the length isn't quite what you wish (or you want a change). Speaking for myself, I am enjoying having skirts of varying lengths.

I totally agree about the pants and understand now what is going wrong with a certain pair of my own. Thank you for that.

I love the skirt! I think the length is really nice.

I sometimes have that same problem with pants. I have found that getting waist taken in usually solves the issue. In my area, tailors charge about $26 to do the alteration, so I only have it done on pants and shorts that I love and I know I will wear often. It sounds like you're kind of "meh" about the pants, so I'd just take them back.

I have that skirt (just got it in the mail today!) and I think it looks fab on you! I really like the fit and length on you. You are right about the pants, I think.

Love the skirt, and the long length looks modern to me. I think shorter would look

I had that *exact same* crotch crease when I tried on J. Crew pants! It killed me, because they are the most reliable source for fun colored bottoms. I don't think these are winners, but I do like the look of skinny khakis on you. You make khaki look like it went so out that it came back around to an edgy/fringe trend again... lol does that make any sense at all?

I love the skirt. If you aren't sure, why not go back to J.Crew and try on the petite, if there's on in your area? If not, can you talk to someone from there online or the phone and ask for the measurements of the petite?

I agree with everyone else. The pants don't make you look as pretty as you are.
