How frustrating! This dress is SO close to being fantastic on you, but yet the fit just isn't quite right. I hope your tailor is able to take care of the fit issues, because I love the dress on you in general.
The cardigan is cozy and lovely on you!

Joy--I'll experiment with your suggestion this evening. It'd be great if that solved several of the fit issues--as you can probably tell, I really want this dress to work!

Suz-pawsie high five from Jill to Max! Yes, the cardigan is my first foray
into pastels in years--decades, maybe!

Karie--Yes, the waist is dropped. It's hard to tell in the pics, isn't it?

I like the sweater, but the fit of the dress looks off at the waist. Is the waist supposed to be dropped?

Diana-- it's a puzzle, isn't it?

Deb--If you felt the cardigan, you'd love it even more!

Lyn--Awesome that you tried on the same dress! And interesting that the fit wasn't right for you, either.

Glory--I know, I know. I've been loving the color and style since I first saw it on the website. If only it felt just a bit better on.

Angie--Wow! You made my day by commenting on my post. And just
when I was about to find the box and pack up the dress, you write that you love it and it's FAB. I think I will bring it to a good tailor for his/her opinion on remedying fit issues before making a final decision. I see what you mean about the cardigan with the dress.

Laura--I've noticed skater's dresses but have never tried one. Now I think I'll have to do just that one of these days. Thanks for the suggestion!

I actually really like the dress, although I think the fit may be off. I suspect it is meant to be slightly drop-waisted and flared. It's worth discussing with someone -- you can try Joy's suggestion, too, in case it is meant to be the other way. It looks like it could be a workhorse dress if the fit were on.

You will enjoy that sweater into the spring with the lovely soft colour.

What happens if you pull the dress up an inch or so at the shoulders? I often have to have tops and dresses taken up at the shoulders. That may get rid of the extra fabric, bring up the waist and help fix the armhole fit too. It may not be a hard fix due to no sleeves unless the dress is lined.
There are so many ways that you could wear the dress, so I hope that it can be altered. Try short jackets and cardigans with it.

I agree that the bodice is too long, which is weird since you're so tall. I can see a fit and flare aka skater dress, as they're calling it these days, really working for you, especially with a shorter, maybe cropped, cardigan.

I noticed the same problem with the waist when I tried this dress on at Zara over the weekend - I think it's just a really strange place for the waist to be, even for us taller girls.

The cardigan is a hit!

Diana--I think you've nailed one of the reasons it feels "off" to me. It's surprising, because at almost 6' tall, I'm somewhat long waisted.

Astrid--I don't want this to sit in the closet unworn--I get how that can happen. I'd rather send it back now.

Ironkurtin--you're absolutely right--it's supposed to flare, which is why I think I loved it on the model. Yeah, it could be a workhorse if it only fit right. Sigh.

Carter--I'm not comfortable with the neckline, either. I kept asking DH if it makes me look like I'm wearing a nun's habit! Guess that's not a real good sign that I should keep a dress, is it?! I'll keep my eyes open for a sheath with a different neckline cut.

I agree with Diana that the waist is too low for you. I also feel like the neckline may be too high. I don't know your style, but it seems like a little lower neckline would work well. The sweater does look cozy! Do you have other things that work with the sweater?

It looks to me like the upper body is too long, and I don't think this is an easy fix for a tailor. (Totally sympathetic here, as I have the world's shortest waist and everything is too long on top for me too.) Anyway, the waist looks to be maybe an inch or two too low, not low enough to be a deliberate low waist. The bunching around the bust also seems to be more like too much length and not too much width (which is easier to fix). So I'm afraid I am going to vote Return.

I've loved this grey wool sheath dress/long pink cardigan combo on the Zara website for two months. It arrived last weekend, and I still love the long cardigan--it's wonderfully soft and warm, a gorgeous pale pink, and the sleeves are more than long enough for me, which is not something I ever take for granted.

What I'm unsure of is the dress. I had to order a large to accommodate my pear tendencies, although a medium would probably have fit the upper part of my body. If I decide to keep the dress, I will bring it to a tailor--I think it should be more form fitting by the bust, and there is a bit of extra fabric high on my chest which I'd like taken in. It is also wrinkly by my hips and in the back. Again, if the dress is a keep, I will ask a tailor if this could be remedied.

Please excuse the bare arm pic which shows my bra strap--I wasn't expecting to need a strapless bra until spring, and I actually tossed the only one I had and am waiting for spring to replace it. But I wanted to include pics of the dress without a topper.

This would be the first sheath dress I've owned. I have several ideas about styling it in addition to those shown here. Does the dress I've loved for weeks on the website work for me, or shall I keep looking?

I value your thoughts and comments. Thanks!
