I don't actually have an Ellen Tracy coat yet myself, but I remember trying on an Ellen Tracy Kimono coat (I don't think it's the same exact style as the ET coat I mentioned in my earlier post above, but it is similar) at a Nordstrom Rack store the winter before last, and being totally shocked that the size ten was way too big. They didn't have any other size that would work for me, and the SA at the store was suggesting a size 6 for me. Thing is? I can wear a size 8, 10, 12 or even a 14, depending on the brand. There's just no way I am a size six, but it would have worked in this particular coat style.

Just on the off chance that you might be interested in a coat like this, I spied the "coat that got away" (ie. Ellen Tracy Kimono Coat) on 6pm dot com - a subsidiary of Zappos:

http://www.6pm.com/ellen-tracy.....st=mat%3A1

This is the coat I tried and *loved*, but somehow didn't end up buying because Nordstrom didn't have my size. It's a beautiful coat - super soft (angora and wool), and cut beautifully (although very generous size-wise). At six pm dot com, they only have black, plum and a more jewel-toned purple. Since you already have an eggplant/burgundy-ish coat which looks amazing on you - if you were to try something a bit different like the Ellen Tracy from six pm dot com - I'd go with black, and it looks like it's available up to a size 16. Thing is - in my experience, a size 12 is more like a 16 in this style.

Another super-stylish YLF'er has this coat ...her name on the forum is greenglove. Here's a link to one of her posts re: the Ellen Tracy kimono coat:

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-coat-size

Anyway - just throwing all this out there in case you want a second wool coat/jacket in addition to the fabulous aubergine/soft burgundy-ish fit and flare that you've done beautifully with.

Meanwhile, I still think the teal coat (from Nordstrom in my earlier post) would fit just fine - because I've tried a similar Ellen Tracy coat on myself in-store, and found that I needed a size six, when really I'm a ten or twelve. (not complaining!). It will fit, I'm sure of it!

Um....were you actually looking for a second coat at all? Ack! I feel like I might have gone way off on a tangent here (oops), when really all you wanted to know is if coat #1 in your pics is the better of various coats you've been trying. IT IS. As Angie has said - there is no comparison - that first coat is fabulous on you ...truly a beautiful fit and shape. Definitely keep and never mind all the rest.

VC - I really like the one you linked to, but they are out my size in all colors, and even my size minus 1 they are out of. For some reason, my size sells fast and seldom makes it to sale. I am a bit envious others get better deals, but it offers me some consolation that there must be a lot of fashionable ladies in my size. (Please don't tell me they just don't order as many in my size!)

I think you're making the right decision. You'll find an extra coat next year. That's what happened to me. I got my dressy coat first and then the pea coat fell into my lap this year.

I think the coat in #1 looks fabulous on you, and the other coats don't compare at all. There's something special about the shape and fit of #1 on you.

If you're looking for an additional wool-type coat to add to your "coat complement", and want something shorter than the coat in pic #1, you might want to try a slightly 'fit and flare' style pea coat. It will be short enough for those more casual outings and yet still have the same beautiful shape as shown in #1.

If you don't want a pea coat, then there are other shorter length wool coats that are slightly longer than those shown in pics # 3-5.

For a fun colour, and novel shape and length, what do you think of this coat (on my own wishlist too):

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/el.....sultback=0 (as seen in pic #1 below).

It's on sale for an amazing price right now, and in my experience with trying on Ellen Tracy coats of this style, they are cut generously, so even though I might normally wear a size 10-ish, I can get away with a 6 in this brand/style of coat. What I'm saying is that you can shave a size or two (even three, to be honest) off your usual size in this particular style from Ellen Tracy.

I can't help but think that this colour and style would look beautiful on you with your blonde hair and fair skin. If you wanted an 'extra' wool coat to have on hand, in addition to the fabulous double-breasted, fit-and-flare coat you've shown in pic #1 - what do you think of a slouchy (but still well-tailored at the shoulders), slightly A-line-ish, funky collar without being overwhelming, *teal* coat?

You could throw on this teal, slouchy-ish, fab coat over some faded slim or boyfriend jeans, a nice white (strict-looking, and polished) shirt, fab colourful scarf of some kind, taupe-ish booties and a cognac bag. Add some berry or pink lip balm or lipstick, throw your hair into a low, messy pony-tail or loose bun/top knot and I bet you look like a *million bucks*. If you wanted to get fancy, you could even add some gold earrings (plain gold studs, love knots, delicate chandelier earrings - they'd all work). The gold earrings would contrast nicely with the casual vibe of the whole "I'm just going to the coffee shop" look.

This shape and style is different enough to warrant adding an additional wool-type topper to your closet, especially if you live in a colder climate and want more than just one winter coat.

Keep the coat you already have, as shown in your photo #1. It looks *beautiful* on you. If you want something else - something a bit different and still need another wool-type coat (for casual or just a change of pace) - consider a different shape entirely (ie. slightly a-line, swing-y, interesting collar, interesting, slouchy instead of tailored etc.).

I hope I haven't added to the confusion! Keep the first coat. If you want a second wool coat, go for something that looks quite different in terms of shape/style than the first one.

eta: sorry for the novel!

All no imo, none of them come close to #1. Keep looking - you have a great coat to compare any future purchases against:)

If you are after a short coat I'd go for something with a bit of fit & flare or swing at the hip - that way you can get a better fit on your shoulders.

I'm looking at the most recent pics that you've posted, and the jacket does seem to be pulling a bit at the buttons, but maybe that's just the light. Does it feel comfortable? Maybe it would be worth trying the next size up. It might not be that much larger on the shoulder, and you could always move the buttons over a bit.

Of all of them #1 is the only one with the 'wow' factor. I would rule out 6&7 because they pale in comparison. It's hard to see the detail of the 3 short coats, but based on what I can make out I like the black quilted one with the knit sleeves. It sounds like an interesting jacket. ( plus I love quilted coats and drool every time Alaska Girl models her Burberry). But it does seem a tad short on you.

Thistle, I still really love #1 on you. But I also really like #3 and think it would make an excellent alternative coat that serves a slightly different purpose. #1 works with skirts and dresses as well as trousers. #3 is more casual and is easy in and out of a car. I would love to see the size up in that coat.

Perhaps try the size up in 3 - it is hard to tell with the hands in pockets whether that is pulling? I like 4 for the gear/fun factor and think it would be handy but the sleeves look a wee bit long.

I know you are hoping to add coats, but none of these are wows other than the PHENOMENAL NO. 1, which I know you are keeping.

When you are searching for your extra coats, I'd suggest focusing on the fit and flare shape (like the PHENOMENAL NO. 1)(can I shout that again?) or a peplum shape. Those shapes will fit and flatter your shape because they can highlight your lovely curves rather than detracting from them.

So, I ordered these the same time I did the Nordstrom's coat. Only, they just arrived now. I am looking to add one, potentially two coats to my winter arsenal.

#1 Nordstrom's coat for comparison
#2 What I am wearing to try on the coats - a good sized sweater
#3 Indigo blue car coat with thinsulate lining (alpaca, nylon wool blend, soft to the touch and very warm). Good the way it is, or should I size up?
#4 Dark green car coat, also thinsulate lined (alpaca, nylon wool blend, soft to the touch and very warm). Similar to the Indigo blue one.
#5 Black quilted jacket with sweater sleeves. I think it is supposed to be a mixed media jacket.
#6 Wine colored full length thinsulate coat (alpaca, nylon wool blend, soft to the touch and very warm)
#7 - same as #6, next size up

Please, please, please be honest with me. I wear coats a lot, and I really want ones that look nice. The sweater I have on is definately on the bulkier side of what I would wear, but I thought I should try it out just in case.
