Dianna : interesting, thanks for your opinion. I thought delicate necklaces didn’t work, now I know they work, I’m just not liking them.

Isabel : olive used to look so drab and draining - like black. But I can wear black and olive now. On the other hand, I don’t like grey anymore.
As for discipline, well, I’m usually very quick to return stuff, but I’m really dithering on this one.

Suz : « work as a neutral yet bring you the joy of rich colour », that’s well put, and that’s the plan, hope it works.
Re the trench : I don’t mind the length, actually I’ve tried on all my outerwear today (because I was suddenly worried I had bought them all too big, lol) and most are no longer than mid-thigh. Also, it looks much shorter in back than front in the pic, but that’s the heavy velvet jacket underneath that causes the ride-up, doesn’t happen with a thinner layer underneath.
Anyway, I think I’ll keep the trench after all, because I really like it. I just don’t want to return it!

The blazer is absolutely stunning on you and I am so glad you are keeping it. It will really work as a neutral yet bring you the joy of a rich colour. Very flattering on you and versatile.

I love the olive trench too but see you are returning, which makes sense if it does not have the fit you wanted. On the subject of length, though, I will say that I happen to have one of a similar length and I have found it amazingly versatile and useful! I didn't know what to expect when it arrived -- would I wear or no? -- but it's a useful coat if you wear pants a lot and even with sheath style dresses.

Keep and keep. The blazer has a warm quality that makes it different from many of your other clothes. I see that you're returning the trench coat, which I also like, but I respect your discipline!

I'm finding olive newly wearable too, and I agree greying hair seems to be a factor. I've always liked the color and "mood" of olive but thought it emphasized the redness in my complexion which is less noticeable, to me at least, as I get older.

Catseye : thank you, I like the trench too, so much that I overlooked the fit...

JuniperGreen : you know, your comment about the trench worn open, that suddenly reminded me where I must have picked the idea of an oversized trench : Céline Resort - see pic #1.

Dianna : actually, I tried it with all my necklaces (that’s only 4 of them). I think pendants make my neck even longer #2. And delicate necklaces are invisible on me #3. So I think I have to go for bold choker styles...but I worry they would fight with my glasses.

Sharan : thank you for the validation of the cord blazer. I was quite surprised olive worked on me.

I'm glad you're keeping the blazer. I love the outfit with the jeans and scarf and booties--super duper fab! And I really like it over the blouse with the light orange tones. I think you could wear it with the wool pants as well as jeans. This corduroy has a velvety look, so it seems less casual than some corduroys.
I also love that shade of olive on you. I never liked olive on me, either, until I got gray hair. Now a cool olive is perhaps my best neutral. It's all in finding the right shades, I've found. I agree that the coat looks a bit big, but I also think you can wear it oversized with panache.

Thank you all for your help, very useful. I should post all my purchases for your perusal in the future. (hey, I heard your collective sigh :)

I’ll keep the burgundy blazer.
I’ll wear it with jeans, because cords seem to call for casual trousers. I was not keen to revisit that smart casual formula, but with the knit top and necklace or scarf, it feels fresh enough.
I will exchange the knit top for a size up, so the sleeves are longer and fill the gap of the damned bracelet sleeves.

As some of you pointed out, the trench coat is a size too big. I can’t size down. I’m tempted to wear it oversized though. Will try it over different layers and see how I like it.

I like both of these. The velvet blazer is gorgeous and I love the color on you. I did notice that the sleeves look a little short but I agree with Shevia, they look the same on the model so I assume it's the cut. I think the trench looks like it fits well and is a good color on you. I have to confess though, I am not personally a fan of trench coats (not sure why, it's just a bias on my part) so beyond that can't really say.

Smittie : I know what you mean, I shouldn’t have bought orange tops, either. Angie’s post on adding olive in her wardrobe made me realize it’s quite complicated to add a new colour, you have to « complement » it = you have to buy more items to make it work. I think it’s more doable with a « stand alone » item like a dress or coat, than with tops, shoes, trousers : things that should harmonize in an outfit.

Jill58 : light sucks, but yes, I would call it olive.

Jaime : I love military coats and trench coats, and I also make that association between military trench coats and old spy/detective movies.

Binkle : I used to have one coat for each season, but I hated it at the end of the season, now I like to add a bit of variety.

Irina : would look better with more length at the back, yes.

Dianna : thank you, I remember you’re a fan of necklaces. I like the idea, but maybe a bigger necklace or a turquoise one would look better?

Well, I'm also in the mood for a burgundy blazer in corduroy or velvet, so I can only say Y E S! The color goes with everything. The trench is nice too, though as I'm personally not much of a multiples-in-outerwear buyer. So if you already have that type of jacket in your arsenal, and you're not over the moon about the new one, maybe rethink it?

I love the blazer on you! The color is wonderful. I noticed the sleeves were it a bit short but that is exactly how it looks on the model. Keep. I thought you already owned the trench until I read the text. (I was too excited to see the wine blazer to wait.) Which means it is very you. The color and style give it an especially military vibe and place you in an old fashion spy movie (I won't let go of that image).
But I am a horrible enabler so keep that in mind.

Love that wine blazer, and both the colour and the shape looks GREAT on you. My favourite is the colour combo in #5, with the patterned scarf as the finishing touch.

Thanks all, I’m more confused than ever right now, but I know I’ll make a better choice once I’ve processed all your info :)

Liz : so you only wear blazers as outerwear? I would have no occasion to wear blazers that way, what a pity that would be :)

Brooklyn : I chuckled when I saw your post this morning, we did the Summer version and the Winter version of burgundy the same day :)
Yes, length is ok for transitional season (I have a longer peacoat and a longer puffer for cold weather)

DizzyLizzy : yes, you’re probably right, the trench is too big in the shoulders.

Chouette22 : I know, I have to cover that neck. Turtlenecks should be ideal but they don’t work for other reasons, so I usually wear collared shirts.

Janet : yes sleeves are too short, thanks for bringing it up. Happens all the time, so I usually fill the gap with longer shirt sleeves. But I think the knit sleeves here are too short to cover the gap successfully. I might try a size up in the top to see if I gain more length that way.

La Pedestrienne : I’m ok with the trench length in front, but yes, it would look better longer in the back, I agree.

Deb & Lisa p : all my jackets are long, but being short waisted I’m supposed to look better in short jackets so wanted to try on this shrunken design. I don’t have a preference, really. I should make a post about long vs short blazer, as experiment. (Had to google Alyson Walsh :)

troff3 : maybe low contrast work better because the trousers are high waisted (not the best look for my short waist)

JAileen : well, the sleeves feel like they’re meant to look that way, but I don’t like bracelet sleeves, they just look like too short sleeves on me, as you’ve noticed.

Delurked and Mirjana : thank you.

Angie : my styling skills? Lol, I’ll probably wear the blazer only one way, that’s what I usually do The faded jeans are Summer jeans (thin, cropped), just wore them here to experiment with your ice and wine formula. Yes, I think they’re meant to be bracelet sleeves, but on my gorilla arms bracelet sleeves are always a tad higher than bracelets. Here it is on the model : https://fr.weekendmaxmara.com/.....ltramarine
I do tend to wear my outerwear (and knits) too big.
I don’t think I will layer over suit jackets, I like the trench better over jeans, it looks quite casual to me.

Laura G : yes, the epaulettes look big. I like military trenchcoats, but their design is not made for me really : epaulettes, double breasted are not good features on my shape.

I like the burgundy blazer and you styled it perfect, especially love #1 and#2 , nice necklace. Interesting, my Friday's outfit was inspired also with Angie's post and my light blue shirt was with bow, just like yours, but burgungy. I like that way to wear shirt with blazer. You trench coat is nice and looks faboulus on you.

Well, there's olive and then there's olive. That trench looks more like a grayed brown to me, and it looks fabulous with your coloring! You just plain look great in it. The epaulettes sort of "stick out" in the photos, though, like they're a little wider than your shoulders. IF it were mine, I'd have the epaulettes shortened a bit, but then my alterations lady has my phone number memorized.

The blazer--nothing wrong with it at all, but I don't get that "buy it now!" vibe from it, the way I do from the trench.
