Freckles, I see what you mean. That tuxedo suit is gorgeous. that length is probably best with high heels which I can no longer wear *sigh*
Lynne, thank you.

Sorry for the confusion my words caused Joy. I meant with the jacket being slightly longer like in this suit

http://www.saksfifthavenue.com.....r=PRONTO01

I am definately no expert here though and Angie gave it a killer!

As always with pics of black outfits it is really hard to tell. I bet irl it looks much more stunning where you can see the drape of the fabric, etc.

For the past year tuxedo jackets/suits have been on my radar and I find the look absolutely stunning.

I'm sorry to be bumping this thread up but couldn't get back until now to respond to the wonderful comments and insights expressed. First I should qualify what I meant by feminine enough. I really meant curvy enough. Suits like this always seem to me to look especially fab on an hourglass figure. Claire, loana, shevia, Angie, Kari, Deborah, Manidipa, and Freckles, thank you for your kind comments and for helping me feel that I can do this look with confidence.
Angie, how can I not keep this suit when it gets a Killer from you! I've kept it and the pants are already at the tailors getting the length fixed to break nicely over the shoe. Freckles the pants are actually too long but the legs are straight and bottoms don't cover the shoe. I hope it looks good once it's back from the tailor. She seemed to know just what it needed.
Claire and Manidipa, I so appreciate your thoughts about the length of the jacket and have brought up good points to consider. You both make me feel much better about it.
What would I ever do without this group of fabulous women!

I am no expert in this but do you think the jacket would look classier and more elegant with the pants at a longer length?

You are definately feminine enough for a tuxedo suit! These pieces seem to fit your Class style mantra.

Joy, you'd be feminine in a double-breasted pinstripe suit in navy! No doubts there.

I can see what you mean about the jacket length --- BUT to me that cropped length over the tuxedo trousers' stripe has a slight Latinate vibe (matador? don't gore me!) and I love the jauntiness of it playing off your classy, ladylike vibes. Yet the black tones it down and makes it a 'take me seriously though I'm fun' piece. I love the playfulness inherent in this suit, especially with your silver hair!

As for the dress, I actually feel the jacket is hitting at just the right place, given the empire-waist sash on top. More cropped and with the ribbon hitting higher, it might disguise your natural waistline and make you look short-waisted.

I say keep, and go forth and conquer that room quietly.

Im no expert but this looks perfect to me with both the dress and the pants. You exude femininity and that balances the masculine stylings of the suit. I would definitely be keeping this Joy... you look stunning.

You don't look feminine enough for the suit? That question does not compute! You look perfectly feminine, being female for one thing, and I happen to think you look great in that suit. (Of course I do tend to like menswear looks, so take that into account.)

First of all, OF COURSE you look feminine enough to wear the jacket with pants! You are the height of ladylike chic! Now to your serious questions: the jacket might work with the dress because they are both black and the line of demarcation is not obvious. It looks nice to me, even though it's not super-cropped. For the same reason, I see it working with the pants, too, but let's see what everyone else says.

Picking up my reception dress from the tailor I stopped at the mall to continue to look for dresses and accessories. Angie had suggested a cropped tuxedo jacket and this one in Dillard's by Nygaard came home to try...the jacket and it's matching pants! Both were on the 65% off sale so I only have 3 days to return. The black on black is hard to show. The first is the jacket with the dress. The fabrics and blacks look like a match in daylight. The second photo shows the jacket with matching tuxedo pants and sequined top. Now I need your opinions, especially as I'm out of my comfort zone here. My style acronym is CLASS (classic-ladylike-accessorized-structure-surprise element).
My concerns are that the jacket isn't cropped enough for the dress but too short for the trousers, and that I don't look feminine enough to wear a tuxedo suit. Please tell me what you think.
