Hey, I'm not feeling so alone about the Hull skirt now it has two other supporters. And will bravely wave the flag again (!) for the spice cardi, which just needs a firm iron and a button shift, IMO. The colour/texture of that combo is strongly appealing on you. (The sole dissenting voice speaks again)

GP, I'm with CocoLion--I thought the Hull skirt was the best of the lot on you, whereas to my eye, the A-line skirt read as matronly. The length of the Hull skirt was fab on you and I loved the shape and box pleat.

Good tailoring is really expensive and I would think twice before doing a drastic alteration on a skirt so expensive--even when it's on sale.

GP, I hope you reconsider the Hull skirt. I don't think it's cheerleader at all! I love the length on you, as you have KILLER legs and this skirt shows them without being short or girly. I think it's an edgy skirt and looks well made and unique. You might need a slip with it if it's too fine. I could see it paired with a navy blazer and the shoes you have on. You could wear a shirt or the lace top you are modeling in the picture. I feel the navy blazer (as opposed to a sweater) would make the whole look stylish yet authoritative.

The Hull skirt was my favorite of the lot. I also like the dress quite a bit, I think you can style it with menswear inspired items and it will take it out of the girly territory.

GP- Frankly, I'd pass on the TB cardi at any price point. As Claire said, they are neither shrunken nor fab. It IS a great color, but not up to your high standards!!!!

Yes, I already own the coats. The rust peacoat in 7 is Tulle from the junior's section at Nordstrom's, it was on sale for $58. I liked it so much I even picked up another one in navy recently. The long wool rust coat in 8 is the J Crew Plaza Coat that Angie suggested. I'm have a little rust coat collection now!

I got the price adjustment on the Radnor skirt and also the shrunken Simone cardigan in spice (also down from $225 to $130). But I also have a cropped rust/henna Jenna's cardigan on order from J Crew for $45 (post Christmas sale) and if that works I'll return the Tory Burch one. I still feel like I should probably have at least one or two cardigans (having ditched them all in my recent purge, but now feeling like it was a bit premature, a la Claire's yoga pants).

Sounds like you have the cardis sorted.

I like the skirt best without alterations. I think it looks frumpy in "5" only because you've paired it with a boxy long cardigan. But if you look at a blouse tucked in, as in "9", it looks great! Only needs a belt for your waist. Beautiful fabric in the skirt!

I like your ideas for edge-ifying the dress, especially for work. Your tall laceup boots will add edge. I have a near-twee dress and a studded belt helps bring it down.....

I think you guys are right, the cardigans are not fab enough to be worth the premium price. LOL Claire, you are right, I don't *need* any more skirts, but I can make an exception for something unique and fab, which I think the Radnor one is. I just love the colors and the pattern and shimmer. It looks almost like fish scales or a honeycomb. I think I had seen a similar tile skirt at Anthro (don't know if it's still available), but I like the colors on this one much more especially with the cobalt and rust (which is my new signature color). So...I'm keeping this skirt. (Another telling sign is that I can't wait to wear it to work on Tuesday and have already planned the outfit to go with the skirt!). Especially since I just found out it's now an additional 33% off, which brings it from $325 original price to $195 sale price (what I paid), now down to $130. I can get a price adjustment since I just bought it. So if I have it taken in to a pencil shape, that should cover the cost of altering it. Although, the A line silhouette is growing on me somewhat, now that I've tried it on again a few times. I just realized that A line skirts are a relative hole for me. All my old skirts are printed silky bias cut skirts. My new ones have been mostly pencil skirts or fit and flare midi skirts. I think the only A line skirt I have other than this one is my cognac leather midi which has sort of an A line shape. So it might be worth wearing it like this for a while to see if I want to keep as is. I may ask Angie's advice about whether to alter. If I seem to remember, Suz and Celia had a similar question about taking in an A line dress and one was told to take it in but the other told to keep as is?

The cardigans and shell and Hull skirt are all going back. The only other one I'm considering keeping is the navy shirtdress. I made a mistake, it's called "Erin dress" not Eva. The dress really fits quite well with the demure retro ladylike aspect of my style, but I share the same concerns as Rita, whether it makes me look too sweet and young-looking (which I already have trouble with as it is). I really like the dress though because it's kind of vintage-y looking and I love the 40's silhouette. I don't have anything like it and rarely wear navy so it would be a new style for me. It was 50% off and all sold out now so I'm hesitant to return it because I won't be able to get it back anymore if I change my mind. I think I might have to style it with a bit more edge though. I do have a red leather obi belt on order from Etsy so I may try it with that dress instead, because the bow belt just accentuates the girlishness. Or maybe a black leather jacket? Oh, and oopsie about the see-through with the flash! I'll wear a cami for sure. Thanks guys!

Like Rae, I fixated on the rust pea coat and long coat immediately (later realizing you must already own them). The cardigans are neither fab nor shrunken looking to me, so I vote pass. If you really *need* another skirt, I vote for the longer A-line one, but I suspect you have enough already. The navy dress is lovely and not too cutesy at all. It looks great on you if this is a hole. I like that you could pair it with any of your new found colors (or all of them) and if would be a great backdrop. Nice work!

Cardigans are comfortable and easy to wear, but unless they're cropped and pretty form-fitting, they have this Mr. Rogers effect on me. This one's by no means unattractive, but I don't see a wow factor in it.

Are the rust peacoat and rust outer jacket yours already? Those really stand out as looking and fitting great here. I think the rust peacoat looks way better than the cardigans, for example. I personally don't think the midi is worth altering... it's a cool pattern, but I don't feel that strongly about it. If YOU love it that much, then you have to decide if it is worth it on top of the price. I would think that changing the whole shape of the skirt would be kind of costly.

Other than those two things, the only thing I love on you is the dress, but then I love that dress a LOT on you. Flattering cut, great colors, ladylike and not costumey at all!

Phew, Christmas is over for us where I live so I have some breathing space to catch up. GP, I saw this post a day or so ago and was struck by #1. Those colours, the proportions and the silhouette are a winning combination. I know you're looking for uber fab and in that case this outfit is a definite keeper.the other outfits are nice but not at the level you're seeking, IMO. With the exception of the navy dress. I really like this on you. The navy suits you well and the hearts have a rather leafy look to them. And it's a change to see navy relieved in this fluid way as one usually sees navy and white combined in dots or stripes. I say keep this dress too.

Its kind of interesting: my thoughts are spot on with Sylvie's. The radnor skirt is unique. Alterations would be worth it as I think it is such a rich color palette and very appealing pattern. I see you eaching for the skirt again and again in your closet.

I also like the dress with a cami. Not cutesy but retro appearing and perfect for your weather.

My new mantra; buy only the best ( for you and on you). Also cardi's pill no matter what. I have a Tory Burch cardi that I love but it is a unique patterned one. I feel the ryst and navy you could find elsewhere at lower price points.

Not a fan of the cardigans or the Hull skirt.

I LOVE the pattern/design of the Radnor skirt, both in the original silhouette and a pencil. You must keep it (assuming construction/fabric quality is up to par).

I like the top but you'll have to decide if fit/feel are worth the construction price.

Yay on the dress as well but I would definitely wear a cami just because everyone seems to be armed with cameras nowadays.

If you can only keep one piece, KEEP the Radnor skirt.

Of everything I actually like the dress the best! I wouldn't worry about the transparency too much--flash is pretty harsh light and you'll probably be okay in normal lighting.

I like the pattern and color of the skirt--like you, I've had skirts (about to consign one) that I thought, if only they were pencils...I have no idea about alteration costs for that.

Could just be me, but the sweaters aren't any big deal and if they cost a lot, being a designer name...I don't know--do they feel/look different to you than another non-designer cardigan?

I love the colors and prints in these. 1-4 I like all of them. Not a fan of the Radnor skirt either fit, if you love the print enough and the cost isn't prohibitive then alter, but I wouldn't keep as is. Really like the 2 jackets, but not the shell (just not a great fit. The dress is flattering except with the closeup flash it's see through so that could be a consideration. I do not think it looks too cutesy, just don't sport big heart accessories with it.

I'm doing a little shopping to fill the last few wardrobe holes before I go on SYC/SYB in January. I've been wanting this spice colored Tory Burch cardigan for months now and finally decided to try it out. They didn't have my size at Nordstrom anymore so I went to the Tory Burch site. And then what do you know, I found some things on sale as well. I fell in love with the rust/cobalt combo of these pieces. But they're pretty expensive even with sale prices so they have to be really fab to stay. What do you think, any of these keepers?

1-2, 5-6. Shrunken Simone cardigan in Arabian Spice size S. It fits well in the arms but the buttons edges are kind of scalloped making me think I might need to go up a size because of my tummy. But then the top might get too boxy.
3. Shrunken Simone, navy blue. I didn't realize this but the sleeves are too short so I think it's going back.
2-4. Hull skirt. I thought it was going to be textured tweed, but it's a very lightweight printed material. And it's a little short and "cheerleader"-y--my eyes have readjusted to midi length. So this may go back as well.
6-14. Radnor skirt. It's cobalt with rust orange accents. I love it, it's such a cool pattern. Feels like something I'd get at Anthro. The only thing is I don't like the flared silhouette of the skirt. It looks much better to me as a pencil style midi. I've grabbed the skirt in the back to simulate a slimmer pencil silhouette. Do you think it's worth altering/having it taken in? I've never had anything altered before other than pants hemming. Also shown with rust peacoat and rust outer jacket.
9-12. Rust colored silk shell. Does this look OK? I'm not so sure about the triangular seaming pattern in the front. You can see it best on #11, untucked.
15-17. Eva dress. I love the navy with white hearts, especially when paired with my red bow belt. But does this read vintage to you, or is it just too young/cutesy looking for me to wear to work?
