Ok, you guys convinced me to have another look at the dresses. I went back to TJ yesterday and amazingly the two dresses (9&10) were still there. I tried them on again and decided it was a sign that they were still there and so they came home with me! And I also picked up a handbag (which I'm going to use today with the black dress--tags are off!) and a pair of orange flip flops. I don't really have any thong sandals/flip flops that aren't rubber pool thongs so these might be nice for casual spring/summer sandals. Should I keep these flip flops?

OMGosh !! Is there anything that doesn't look good on you ? Or have you just gotten THAT good at choosing things ?

I love the new dress and I don't think that it anything like the Jason Wu dress. Very different styles and materials. The Wu dress is also a bit more bohemian. They are both great. I agree that TJ Maxx is also starting to get very pricey. I was looking at bags the other day and they had some for hundreds of dollars. I just wasn't expecting it.

That black shift is just divine too. But you don't wear much black , do you ? And the red number is close to a 10 in my book....FWIW.

No love for the red dress on 11? That is my favorite.
I love #1 and I don't think is too similar to the Wu. I get a complete different vibe from each one.

Natalie, I think MaryK asks a great question about the function of this dress vs the Jason Wu. But I rather suspect the answer is in fact that this one is a lot more versatile --- I don't think the Wu will work with all the toppers you've shown here, am I right? As I recall, you initially had a little trouble styling it just-so... IF that is the case, I think I'd keep both for different vibes, as Claire says and as you yourself suggested in your age-appropriateness post.

I *wish* that orange dress was in your budget too. You look stunning in it! Especially with that turquoise bag!

What Claire said about the RL dress! I like it, and I think the pencil skirt bottom makes it much more grown up, bombshell, and sophisticated. Love it with the WHBM ink jacket. I also like the red dress. Your actual B44 tiered lace dress is way better than the black one you tried here.

I wish that J. Crew dress was orange, too!

I shop TJMaxx... I love their bags and shoes especially, but also coats, jackets, and dresses. Never had much luck with jeans. However, I never get overwhelmed while shopping, unless it's because of fit. Like Claire, I do like how everything is categorized for me.

I think the new blue dress has a much different vibe than the Wu. It has a narrower skirt and seems more sophisticated to my eye. It fits and flatters you very nicely.

If the pics are a true reflection of how it looked, I would suggest you zip back there and snap up that red AP dress too. I think it looks gorgeous on you. The fit, cut and color area all great.

I am not that keen on the JC striped top for you. It seems to overwhelm your tiny frame.

I also really liked the last deep orange dress. You really do wear dresses well.

I love your new RL floral dress, and I think it gives off a much more sophisticated vibe than the Jason Wu in the same color scheme. Regarding your thread about looking younger than you really are, the JW dress is sweet and the RL dress is elegant, so I think they would serve two different purposes. (Maybe one for work and one for your time off?) The other TJMaxx dresses look very nice too. IDK if you need a LBD, but the reddish one is gorgeous on you.

I shop TJMaxx and like Sarah L, I appreciate that all of the blouses are together, dresses together, etc. In fact, thrift stores are arranged the same way. NO WONDER I feel so overwhelmed in regular department stores at the mall! Duh! I am having an *aha* moment here (thank you for that GP and Sarah)! I don't know how to navigate in them and always get so dirstracted and feel like I'm on a gigantic scavenger hunt.

#14: WOWOWOWOW! I understand not getting it for the price tag though - but this dress looks fabulous!

I like the new dress and how you've styled it with the white denim jacket and blue jacket. It looks very "you". I like to random bargain hunt at places like TJ Maxx when I'm not looking for anything super specific. For example when I just want some interesting tops but don't have any real ideas on what I'm looking for. Also, I like it that those type of places are usually organized by size so I don't waste my time looking at stuff that won't fit.

The floral dress looks great on you, but it is quite similar to the Jason Wu. When I am considering buying something similar to a piece I already own, I ask myself "Will I wear this INSTEAD OF the piece I already own on a given day, or would I be able to wear it for DIFFERENT occasions?"

For example, I found these awesome tiger print pumps. But I already have leopard pumps and the tiger pumps would basically serve the same wardrobe purpose as the leo ones I already have. So either the new tiger pumps would go unworn, or the older leopard ones would go unworn, or each of them would be worn half as often as if I only had one of 'em. Which isn't that often to begin with, given the breadth and depth of my shoe wardrobe. So I decided to pass.

Which is a long winded way of saying it seems like the new dress would serve the same purpose as the Jason Wu dress. Which might be okay because honestly, I like it considerably better!

I went to TJ Maxx for the first time today as they recently opened a new store in our area. It was pretty busy. It was interesting--they had some designer stuff in their Runway section but all of it was still pretty pricey ($300 and up) and quite ugly IMO (a lot of horridly dowdy or crazy prints). I didn't find a whole lot in the rest of the store either--I looked at purses, shoes, dresses, coats, and careerwear. I was starting to get that mildly overwhelmed feeling that I used to get shopping for clothes (pre-YLF) when there's too many things and I don't know what to look for. I think I don't do as well in the random bargain hunting environment--I like browsing online and ordering or going into a store with a list of specific items to try. The prices were OK, but fairly similar to Nordstrom Rack (which I love to browse online). I will probably go there again, but I was a little disappointed I didn't find any amazing bargains. Do any of you love to shop there? What's your strategy?

I did try on three dresses, and ended up buying a Ralph Lauren dress for $50. It's navy with blue and white flowers (1-6). Size 4, 95% polyester and 5% elastane. It's a good spring dress and I thought I could wear it both for MOTG and for work. It has wide shoulder straps and V neck which I like and ruching to hide the apple tummy. It's stretchy and comfortable. I tried styling for MOTG with the white AE denim jacket and wedge sandals (3-4), and for work with the ink blue jacket and blue snakeskin pumps (5-6). What do you think of it, keep or return? Is it too similar to my Jason Wu for Target blue floral dress (7)? They are pretty similar, but I feel like this one is a little dressier because the floral print is bolder and the hem isn't so short.

The other two dresses I tried on at TJ Maxx were a black shift (don't remember the brand) with Bailey 44 style diagonal paneling (8-9), and a red Adrianna Papell faux wrap jersey dress (10-11) but I didn't think they looked as good on me. And bonus pics from when I went to J Crew and tried on Angie's emerald stripe shirt (12-13) and another dress (14-15) the other day when I went to return the blue jacquard dress. I didn't buy either because I am not used to waist surrender and that shirt is rather loose around the waist. I liked the Mad Men style of the dress (it's more coral, not bright orange like it looks in the picture--I wish it was orange!), but it was $200 so I didn't think it was worth it. J Crew is expensive!
