I'm so familiar with this fit issue, Jenn! There really and truly is a bigger difference between a large and an an extra large than between, say, a small and a medium. I often find myself in the cracks between.

Linen is, indeed, an unpredictable fabric. I love Sal's option for you. Of course, she's half the world away, so we can't run to same store.

I'm searching for a soft pair of pants, too. Thanks for sharing your find!

They are cute but it looks like you are between sizes. I have linen pants that have stretched out quite a bit but then I have others that don't stretch out.

I'm inclined to vote pass. But I'm not that fond of linen pants that I've tried in the past for this very reason. If I get them small enough to look decent after an hour's wear, I balk every time I put them on, because they are uncomfortable (and not the loose, slouchy feel and look that I want from linen pants). Then I change into something else.
So I would try to find a lightweight cotton instead. Or a tencel blend.

I passed on the bigger size in the store, as they felt like they would be constantly falling down if they stretched even a little (or if I shrunk even a little), so I think I will just have to give up on these entirely. Sad, because I really like them. Here's the Find.

There's nothing I hate more than pants that are too tight when I sit, so I vote return. But they're such awesome pants. I think you should buy the bigger size and perhaps get them taken in at the waist, though I guess it's hard to say without seeing a photo.

It looks like you need a size bigger, 1) for comfort 2) the design seems like it needs to be more of a loose fit. Also, consider that

depending on the quality, linen shrinks about 5 - 10% after a wash. It grows because linen has poor elasticity and therefore doesn't spring back (hence the wrinkling.)

If you usually wash linen pants in summer after each wash, I'd be tempted to get the larger size, although my first thought is that those shown look wonderful on you. As Smittie suggests, could you wear them around the house for a few hours to see what they do?
My linen does not grow when washed but returns to its original size if it grew while wearing.

I tried these Anthro linen joggers on in the store a few weeks ago, in an XL, and the sales associate warned me that they "grow" and said most people had to size down. The XL were insanely comfortable, but also a bit balloony, and loose at the waist (before any stretching), so I ordered the size down to try.

This is the L, and I can't decide. I like the fit when I'm standing, but there's no stretch and they do tighten around my thighs a lot when I sit, so they're less comfortable than the larger pair. On the other hand, I'm at the top of my weight range right now, and usually drop down a bit in the summer when I'd be wearing these.

What do you think? Keep or return? Or size back up?
