Chirico and Adelfa: Thanks for chiming in!

Adelfa: I do love to move to sandals as soon as possible, but I tire of booties once March rolls around. I'll wear transitional footwear as cool as 45 F, and up to to 70 F. The Oxford is a nod to my favorite era of the 30's, but I think "my' kind of Oxford might be a HEWI ---- somewhat feminine, but neutral, not too bulky and not too flat. Maybe bone colored, and perforated? A cut out bootie would be nice, as well. I swear, if I had time and funds I would have twice as many shoes!

Rachy: Yes, indeed, "scale and proportion" matter in footwear, and what looks good on my foot and leg is different than what works on a model. A bold shoe works --- but am I interested in quirky? That's the question!

I'm just starting to explore the idea that style icons could show up in any era and be memorable -- their core would still be there. It's easy to imagine the Hepburns this way -- they both lived reasonably long and serious, but fashionable, lives. Imagining today's style makers in other eras is a bigger task for my imagination, but is kind of fun!

The silver shoes look very good on your foot there. I am ambivalent about moccasins. i tend to treat them like slippers...

Wanted to say that I like this mission statement: 'developing my style persona, rather than simply aiming for a well functioning, updated wardrobe'

Because I feel I do this, then find I'm unhappy because it's not me, and then have to start again.

Also love the questions about what Ines or the Hepburns would wear in the 1890s or such. Really gets one thinking about the core of someone's style...

Hi, I'm with everyone else. I love the loafers and I think I love the Keds--would like to see them on you. The first pair look like gear to me but not necessarily in a good way.

Regarding oxfords.... I never feel good in them so am quite thinking you don't need them, lol! Also regarding transitional shoes: I find I need very few of them. Either booties or sandals usually fit the bill!

Love the orange loafers, and it sound like you already have colors you'll wear with them.
I like the rétro shape of the Keds. I'd buy them.
I am not a fan of the first sneakers though...

Thanks, A.J., for chiming in from the West Coast! The stitching on the loafers is not nearly as bold in real life -- I think the white must be popping in the photo. I have mixed feelings about the Bzees too!

And I've seen Natalie's post now, thanks to you! Do you know, I actually have that same skirt? And I hvae a very similar cobalt print top.

Tanya: coral sounds wonderful. I'm trying to remember how much I enjoyed my first yellow purse, even though I don't wear yellow. Perhaps orange will be like that!

First of all, I must say that I love the orange loafers! I would keep those for sure. I also don't wear any orange at all but last summer got a pair of coral flats that I wore with all my blues, so i think these loafers would do the same of you.
I like the Keds too, and would keep those as well.
Honestly, I can't make up my mind about the comfort sneakers so I';l leave that to the others. I can see arguments for both pro and con there.

I'm not a fan of the way the first sneaker looks.

I like the color of the orange loafer with your skin tone. I'm just a bit unsure of the white top stitching.

Did you see GP's outfit with her orange loafers?

Last white sneaks look versatile.

In my Style Goals for 2016 http://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/style-2016, I laid out my plan to work toward a wardrobe that allows for movement throughout the day. I also plan to invest energy into developing my style persona, rather than simply aiming for a well functioning, updated wardrobe. As part of this shift, I'm exploring chic, but practical retro touches, focusing on the 1930s.

I really see "retro" as rather fluid and inspirational -- more like representing an archetype -- a kind of woman who, much like Doctor Who, (my son and I watch together) can move forward and back in time (if only!) Many of our style icons, past and present, have this quality. What would Ines de la Fressange have worn during the 1890s? What would the Hepburns, Audrey or Katharine, be wearing today? I think the core of their style would cross decades with ease.

Last Autumn, I knew that my transitional footwear would need refreshing -- particularly casual and smart casual shoes to span between boot and sandal seasons! I'm quite serious about dressing in a way that I could walk the neighborhood, or through a nearby park, without dressing in head to toe gear. I don't have serious feet problems, but I do need some cushioning, and a fit that accommodates a higher volume foot.

1-3: Bzees comfort sneaker (similar in the Finds). Are kinda fugly in an endearing way or shall I keep looking? These are far more cushy and comfy than the slightly retro Ecco or Joseph leather versions with a similar shape, and can be worn without socks. I just don't want to look like I've "given up." I felt a bit like that with last season's Skechers. I do think the shape and visual weight of the shoe works with my foot and leg, and I like the low contrast fabric with a bit of sheen.

4-5: I'm not a loafer person. However, the vibrant color (more a burnt orange, or tomato) is vibrant, fun, and extremely comfy. The loafer does fit into a retro feeling (although more 50's prep, ala Kate Hepburn, and not 30s). I don't have orange in my wardrobe, but I do have lots of navy, chambray, cobalt, and white. I'd use these as an accent color. I'm unlikely however, to, say, buy a tomato tee. These shoes have a luxe casual look and feel, but are they for me?

6. A bonus: These Keds Coursa sneakers were on clearance. I need to replace my Cons, and I want something with a similar feel, but more comfort, and a bit more ladylike silhouette. These are comfy, and stike me as a what would happen if Con and Ked Champion had a baby. I like the taupe and navy trim at the base.

I do want to add a lighter colored oxford to my wardrobe this Spring, but I didn't see anything suitable at DSW. Should I pass on the loafer, in favor of an oxford? It is possible I could have both, but I'd need to keep my loafer in the 50-60 dollar range.
