I agree with Angie: the whole skirt outfit is a winner! You really rock pencils, Beth - -and it will also work great with your new red Munro booties.
I like both sweaters and don't find the shoulder line sloppy: actually I find it quite flattering. While pink is fun and maybe different I really like how cobalt one create the focus on your face rather than on the sweater. Very flattering!

Skirt yes hands down. Pink sweater too. The drawbacks others see, I look at differently. I think the styling of the stripes is fresh, modern, and adds shape.

We all love stripes I suppose. But we're one long run of straight stripes stretching across the planet. I know our curves lend regular stripes some curve of their own, but still the idea is a straight across eye motion.

Here, the stripes create movement, especially against the v of the neckline. I think it's both different, eye pleasing and flattering. Also a fan of the broad stripes. This borders on color blocking vs stripes.

The shoulders seem of the moment to me. The whole drop shoulder, raglan, oversize thing. That will suit some and be unflattering to others. On you I think it's nice, but your eye is going to go to mirror with this. It's nice styling to me but they're your shoulders :)

I like the cobalt one as well. The pink and charcoal together on you is stellar. If you don't get it I may just be sad. The cobalt is fine, go with your eye.

It must have been so much fun to score at Target. Poor Suz!

Not so sure about the sweaters. The pink color is great on you but I am not loving the diagonal stripes.

I call both sweaters a 9 and not a 10 --- how okay are you with a 9? Agree solid pink with texture is fab pursuit, but will you miss having a placeholder while you hunt? Otherwise I am with Adelfa. Both make sense.

The skirt is perfection. Love how the fronds in the pattern echo the curling ends of your hair!

Still deciding on the pink sweater's fate. I think I'd love one in a solid this color, with some texture, like the citron one posted by Angie.

UF: Excellent thoughts! I need to think more of capsules, and the skirt is a no brainer in that regard. It can span all seasons except high Summer and Blizzard (wihch is a season in Chicago).

Must keep skirt!

Sweaters I'm +/-. Depends on your needs. I agree with Suz--one of the best things is the light, easy fit. The stripes read very casual to me. The cobalt less so. So it depends on if they fill a need for a jeans capsule. Solid pink might be better and more versatile if you're thinking of adding that color. It would go with the skirt for spring, with white jeans, and with grays/navy/black.

Thanks for taking a moment to give feedback. I've gotten encouragement and wisdom here. I think the skirt will stay. I also am rethinking brilliant shades of pink. I haven't worn it much in the last few years, because it seemed like it belongs more to younger and more dainty women. Perhaps I should look for this color in modern, streamlined shapes, particularly for next Spring.

Denise, thanks for mentioning your perspective on the shoulder line. I have such squared shoulders I never ever think about that when I shop, but the shaping of the stripes and seams in these sweaters does make the shoulders seem to slope. I do, without really thinking about it, rely on a strong shoulder line to balance the curves in my lower body.

Thistle, DV and Traci: The fabric is nice and stretchy, and just weighty enough to keep things looking smooth. As I mentioned before, I found it more generous in the waist than the bum, but it also has one of these "Hollywood" waists, which a pear could simply shift a bit lower on the body.

Jurocha/Suz Sharing what you see is exactly the kind of feedback I wanted. Stripes seem to add energy, but they can also add distraction. For years I didn't wear stripes at all. I think they can sometimes seem so linear, so bold yet predictable, in a way that doesn't suit my curves or my more dramatic features.

And Suz --- Target should hang its head in shame. Why open stores that aren't fab?

Agree that the skirt is a must keep. I really like the sweater, especially the cobalt and black (but this is a favorite combination so maybe I am biased). I noticed the downward slope but actually think that might make it more flattering - a diagonal rather than horizontal line. I say keep!

I absolutely adore that skirt on you and if you don't keep it I will come and spank your zippered bottom. STUNNING with that sweater (and half the other items in your wardrobe, I'm sure.)

I like the idea of the sweater, and I like both colourways on you. But I, too, feel a little uneasy about the stripe placement on them and the overall effect of that. It's not that the stripes are broad. That is a-okay. On the other hand, when we stare at a still photo we see something a bit different than real life. What I really like about these sweaters (apart from the comfort, for you) is that easy, relaxed vibe that they give off. The fluidity. So. Six of one, half a dozen of the other, my hubs would say.

I hope the work is going well!

I like both sweaters and especially liked that the stripes are not the usual horizontals. To my eye they put focus on your face. Keep both if you can, but if you keep just one, let it be the pink.

LOVE the skirt. Keep! If you don't I will be so angry with you. It looks gorgeous with your burgundy top and it shows off your slim waist.

The sweaters, not as much as I feel they have this downward line on the shoulder area due to the placement of the stripes. It makes your shoulders look slopey when they are not. We have similar hourglass/pear proportions with narrower but not necessarily sloping shoulders. I may be over sensitive to this aspect of clothing right now however, as I have noticed that my shoulders are actually starting to slope a bit due to age. So I am trying to avoid clothing that emphasizes this aspect of my shoulders, and have recently realized that many of my tops do this. Which all means, you can take my comment with a grain of salt.

The pink absolutely lights you up. I wish you hadn't shown it with the blue because now I can't be objective about the blue because I keep comparing it to the pink. I love how you have it styled with the BFs and cons -- flattering to the extreme, happy fun and very pulled together. (note to self)
Now I have to have that skirt. It is darling. I even like the zipper in the back -- sort of sexy secretary. That damask print is heavenly (I already have too many black and white pencil skirts!!!!) I love Mossimo skirts they are well made and true to size. I'll try not to look for that skirt the next time I visit Target. Let's see how long that holds up

Ooooh, Adelfa, such good justification for keeping both. I need you around more often!

Nadya: No one in my circle wears bf's, but I'm so glad I embraced them. They pushed me into new silhouettes and they're extremely comfortable.

Thanks, Deborah, for weighing in! I accidently hit "submit" before I had finished posting. Surprised you caught my addition!

I got a skirt at Target very similar to that a couple of years ago and I loved it and got a ton of compliments on it. I think it will be great for you. I LOVE the zipper.

The sweater fits nicely on you and looks great. Hot pink and cobalt are my two main accent colors so the following might be biased. If you can use and afford both sweaters, I recommend keeping both. They will play fairly different functions because the pink pops on you and is high contrast with the gray (black?) while the blue is low contrast with the gray and tones more with jeans and other dark colors.

All great finds. I've been thinking I need a patterned pencil skirt and you're reinforcing that. And you look GREAT in those BF jeans, even though they're not why you posted

Oh there is more! Love the sweaters. I think they are flattering. For some reason a wider stripe often looks more flattering. The cobalt is a killer colour on you, but the pink and grey looks good too.

Beth Ann, I really ike the skirt:) And I always like the look of an exposed zip. Fit looks good and a black and white pattern like that always looks fresh and modern to me. Keep.

I'm working at the University just 2 days a week --- but very L-O-N-G days this semester. This means that I have one more day per week of casual dressing, and that my University "capsule" needs to be comfortable enough to not make me strip to my skivvies the minute I close my front door!

Here are a few finds:

1/2/3 One of the items on my fall list has been one or two fall/winter knit pencil skirst. I didn't expect to find one in Target -- this is Mossimo. The print is kind of romantic/retro, but the zip back is either a welcome bit of modern or a little ridiculous --- I'm not sure which. I know I have many garments to mix it with, but will it boost my style, or leave it in neutral. For those interested, this is generous in the waist, but less so in the bum, so I sized up, but have some extra room in the waist. Is the pattern and cut pleasing on me?

4/5/6 This sweater (in two colorways) is from Kohl's. It's very lightweight which is good for me. The cobalt probably "goes" with more of my wardrobe for fall. The pink would work better with my Spring capsules, like my white pants. However, something about the pink seems to light me up for. I think I like the pattern, but I'm not quite sure it's flattering on me. What's your gut response?
