I didn't know VIva and I might be sandal twins :)</p> <p>Susie, I really like the heel on these and the fact that it's a pretty simple sandal, nothing fancy other than the heel, and can be dressed up or down.</p> <p>That's true, Claire, I often do go down a half size not only in a sandal but in any shoe that has a narrow fit to it. The narrow fit keeps my foot in place and not sliding forward, so the smaller size often fits better. From the side they both look fine to me. The 9 looks a little long from the top view, but it looks like it fits your toes better. Your pinky toes look to be a little constrained in the 8.5 - but if they feel good to you - who am I to say?? The 8.5 looks like the best fit to me, unless it feels too tight. You're toes aren't even covering up the stitching. I purchased them after I took the falling apart Kelly &amp; Katie's back to DSW. These are Sam Edelman's from Zappos (if I keep, hopefully they'll hold up better than my last pair of SE's).</p> <p>My right foot is bigger than my left, so that is the foot in question.
