I did something similar to a coat years ago, as the 80s turned into the 90s. The coat was an expensive wool with a very simple but oversized shape, and a great tailor took in the side seams. But I need a coat for our cold winters, when I'll be wearing bulky sweaters or jackets underneath, and this size&nbsp;is better for that. I definitely didn't want it to look tight or fitted. I'm looking for a fluid fit.</p> <p>Deborah, you have a good point. It's hard to say whether this style will become dated quickly. The front and side views look great. There does appear to be a bit more material across the back than you need, even for an oversized look. If it doesn't bug you, then no big deal. If it does, then a tailor could fix that for you. If it were me, I might also have a tailor see if it's possible to move the band with the two buttons up a bit from hip level to waist level. All that being said, please take it with a grain of salt...I'm on the more fitted/tailored team.
