The streets and sidewalks are all slate cobblestone. I have seen very few women wearing heels. Even in dressier environments everyone seems to be wearing flats. Fashion sneakers (mostly white) and Birkenstocks are the most predominant shoes I see during the day. They were reasonable inexpensive and decent quality (Ralph Lauren brand, found at Winners for $50) quite comfy too and a low heel. I bought them for Italy, to wear with casual dresses for dinners out. I don't love gold hardware but it doesn't bother me too much and my cognac clutch also has gold, so at least it coordinates . My concern is with the criss-cross of the strap - is that dated looking or frumpy? Most shoes I've seen just have the one strap across. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance! </p>
