Thanks all for your advice! I agree with your assessment. The wrap style is just too risky for work. And I'm not in super love with it on me (plus the faux nipple really bothers me, LOL!), so I'm just going to return it and not keep trying so hard to make it work.

Diana, great idea to look at faux wrap styles. (The other red one that I posted is a faux wrap). I just searched on eBay and I found a NWT DVF faux wrap dress that I really like and it was much less expensive ($140) than the retail DVF dress even at the sale price, so I just took the plunge! I really hope this works out--shopping on eBay makes me really nervous because of no returns, but I think this style will suit my apple body better with the draped waist and be less fussy to wear. The only downside is it's sleeveless, but that might be good for spring/summer and I can wear with a black shrug or cardigan for fall/winter. I don't have any dresses in this color, but I know teal looks good on me. Plus it's got a fun beetle print (I love secret whimsy!) I was debating between size 4 and 6 but went ahead and ordered the size 4 because it looks like the waist is more forgiving on this one and I'm worried the bust will gape if I order the 6.

Will post pics when I get it! Wish me luck!

Sorry to be a naysayer, but I'm really not loving the fit of this on you. When I clicked through the photos and saw your solid red dress, I immediately thought "ah, now that's how a dress is supposed to fit". In the DVF dress, there's too much material in the torso and the folds aren't playing nicely. It feels like the dress requires a longer torso or fuller bust to get the top to lie smooth.

Between the cami/slip requirements, I'd pass on this one. I'm sure that someday the perfect red DVF dress will come your way.

I'm not crazy about this dress, Natalie, especially not for the price. The way it's sitting with the fabric crinkling a bit around the bust and waist, and the position/style of the tie is reminding me of a bathrobe. Sorry.

I am not generally a fan of wrap dresses though, since they are always too low in the bust and lend themselves to wardrobe malfunctions. My theory is that you have to be very, very stereotypically "ladylike" to wear wrap dresses... i.e. always standing up very straight, taking very small steps, etc. I almost always pin or sew my wrap dresses and skirts shut, but that seems like a shame with an iconic DVF wrap.

I did once try on a ruched faux-wrap DVF dress that was very flattering and did not have the wardrobe malfunction issues, so you might want to check out something like that.

I love the color and pattern, but for what it must cost, I'd pass because it's not perfect. I'd expect a more generous overlap on the skirt, for one. You'd practically have to have a coral silk slip custom made to make this dress perfectly fuss-free. That's the problem with bucket lists. Sometimes you're in love with the *idea* of something, and then when you actually *meet* it, it's not true love after all, merely a passing infatuation.

It looks pretty on you, but all those issues just wouldn't be worth it to me. I much prefer "faux" wrap dresses, i.e. one that looks like a wrap but is either stitched together strategically or is one piece with a wrap-like overlay. They prevent unwanted exposure, but still have the flattering lines of a wrap.

Ahhhh, I like the dress. Sometimes I don't go 100% by your pictures because the overhead lighting tends to create an overcast in most of your pics and gives the illusion of fit issues that might not be there, so in terms of fit, I'm going to go with my general impression of how DVF dresses usually fit, which is off the hook great!

My hesitation is with the fact that the coloring of this dress is sooo similar to your bayley 44. I think I would pass on it due to the fact that you have something so similar already. I have tried DVF dresses and I don't recall having that thigh cleavage issue. I wear a slip with all of my wrap dresses. Better safe than sorry.

I'm not impressed with this dress, unfortunately. The layering, the fit, the leg issues, plus overall it is not the most flattering thing you own. The print isn't even that interesting IMO. To be something you check off of a bucket list, I'd think it would have to be killer right out of the gates and inspire no doubt.

This is a beautiful dress Natalie - but all the concerns you have pointed out are the reason I wear "faux" wrap dresses and not the real thing. A cami works well for the cleavage issue (I prefer the red) although you could wear it without the cami for an evening setting, with a cami for work. To me the bigger issue is the thigh baring. I think without a slip, this takes the dress out of the running for a work appropriate dress. I know for me, I would constantly be holding it together, trying to wrap it around my leg when sitting, etc. Too much fussing for my liking.

I don't know if sizing up will help with this - I guess there's only one way to find out.

Natalie, I love it on you!

I have the same cut of dress, but in a larger graphic green and white print, and I also found the size just a little tricky -- I *could* have sized up to an 8, but the sales assistant talked me out of it. I absolutely have to wear something under the top, but I have a bandeau in the exact shade of green in the dress, so that works well without adding the whole layer that a cami adds. As for the flapping open of the skirt, I use a little piece of fashion tape, and avoid wearing it on windy days. Since I don't work in an office, I'm not as concerned about making it work appropriate -- I wear it with bare legs and boots or sandals, and a denim jacket. I love it and anticipate wearing it for years to come!

Edited to add link with my DVF dress, although covered with a jacket: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-for-angie

I think sizing up will help with the leg exposure - there will be more overlap in the skirt part. Try it and show us pictures!

Natalie, the undergarment solution is NOT a cami but a slip! (It's my solution to most shirtdresses too, for the button gappage.) A nude slip would be great to really let the dress shine uncontested, or get a contrast (dark blue-green, say?), and make sure the neckline sits lower than on those camis but also high enough for comfortable coverage. (Seems to me the necklines you have now are defeating the flattering V of the dress.) And also, try to find a slip that is shaped rather than a basic 'slip dress', so that the bust is separated, as that helps the wrap neckline/bodice to sit better; else the neckline is sort of pushed away from your breastbone by the cami/slip and defeats the figure-flattering magic of the wrap.

OR, if you really hate slips, try fashion tape?

And no, don't think sizing up will help, for the reasons Una explained.

Also, agreeing about print placement issues, because now you've noticed it, it *will* niggle. Find another piece, or three!

All very astute advice! Jenava, exactly--I'm worried about the dress sliding open. Christieanne, good thought about pinning--I wonder if that would help? Yes Una, I am in love with the idea of a DVF wrap dress, but I am concerned about the practicalities of wearing one, especially at work--I don't want to always be worried about flashing my patients inadvertently. MaryK, I'm wondering if it's not covering enough because it's too small--maybe if I got a size 6 I could pull the wrap across further for more boob and thigh coverage? Deborah, yes that print placement is irritating me--once you see it, you can't help but notice it.

I'm not sure whether I should give it another try and order a size 6 and second size 4 online to try a bigger size and different print placement, or just give up altogether. The red dress I already own isn't as exciting (no fun print!), but it looks like a wrap dress without the hassle/exposure risk of one.

I have a DVF wrap dress that is cut fuller in the skirt and doesn't have the thigh-revealage issue. It does seem like this one might constrict your movements a bit more than is strictly practical. Might you want to consider holding out for one with a little more forgiving cut?

I have always wondered how women keep the wrap dresses closed up on leg and chest myself. Strategic pins? That does seem a shame on an iconic dress.

It looks nice but only you can decide on the comfort level you have with the wrap - if it is practical for work or not.

Wrap dresses irritate the heck out of me because of the cleavage issue. What is the point of having to wear something under them? *sour grapes* All of the DVF dresses are gorgeous and this is no exception, and I think it looks as good on you as such a dress can look on a non-model... however, I agree with Jeneva's comments 100%.

I gave up my DVF dress because by the time I layered enough underneath for it to be workappropriate I was basically wearing a second dress underneath. I had to wear a cami as well (the dress will also shift throughout the day and unwrap a little, so a cami is a must), and I wore it with a half slip to keep covered when the wind blew it open (or, I happened to take little bit too big of a step). Overall, a nice pattern, but not practical because it's basically a "standing still" dress in my book.

If you are willing to put up with all the undergarments required then I say keep! You could also layer leggings under it.

Natalie, I think this dress looks beautiful on you. The fit looks good to me. I prefer it without the camisole and I don't think it's too low cut with out it.

With regard to the pattern placement, unfortunately I noticed the 'blank" spot straight away. However I am not sure if it's because you pointed it out. Up close its not an issue but from a distance it does look kind of odd.

OK, after creating my "fashion bucket list" (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ucket-list) I clicked on that red DVF wrap dress and found out it's 30% off at Neiman Marcus! I just had to try it out! (This would probably be an early birthday present to myself).

This is a New Julian Two dress. They only had a size 4 (by the size chart I'm between a 4 and a 6). I am not sure if the 4 is too tight? I tried on the size 6 in another style (Jeanne, with a collar) and it seemed baggy/lumpy around the torso and loose in the bust. But I'm not sure if my belly is too big for the 4?

I like the color and the pattern of this dress a lot. It's red and white, but the red is more of a coral red color. And I really like the Asian-inspired flower pattern. And it's silk jersey and is one of the styles that DressLover recommended, so it would last longer than the DVF Linda red knit dress I tried and returned last fall.

But, I have three possible concerns with this dress and want to know if these are dealbreakers...
1. I think I would have to wear it with a cami, because it's a little too low cut to wear to work without. I tried it on with my red tank and cream lace trimmed tank. Which looks better?
2. With the way the dress is wrapped, there's potential for a lot of thigh baring if I move my leg the wrong way (see #7). Is that normal for wrap dresses or is it because the size is too small? I don't think I would normally have my leg in that position (I'm no Angelina Jolie!) but I don't know if it's a problem?
3. Print placement--there's a small bare red patch in an unfortunate place--does it look like a nipple (see #11)? It's not really noticeable when I look in the mirror, but I spotted it when I was reviewing the pics. Is this a problem?

What do you think? Yea or nay on the wrap dress style in general and this particular dress/size? Try a larger size? Order another to try a different print placement? (I bought three Kate Spade dresses before I was happy with the print placement, but it was worth it in the end).

ETA: I added some catalog pics so you can see what it's supposed to look like on models. And here's a solid red dress from TJ Maxx that I own, for comparison.
