Just a thought. I have owned 2 similar Eddie Bauer rain coats. The first one was wonderful but a really heavy rain would soak through. The second I ended giving away because I could not stand the crinkle noise it made when walking. It was a noise coat. I replaced it with one from REI ( their brand) and am very happy. Not everyone would be bothered by all the noise but, if you are, return it and fell them why.

Well I'm a bit late cos you've decided. But FWIW, coat looks great but looks olive ( which I love) not grey on my screen. I liked the top on you and have also loved that one of Suz's, but I have enough tops. And good on you with PPL to the more practical boots. With you all the way there. Love those "Mod" Moto Bella Vita ones as well as your navy with studs - what a great colour.
I can't really get used to bootcuts yet, I am still wedded to straights.

Thanks all for the input! I decided to return the velvet top - trying to limit purchases to 3 a month, and it did not make the cut. Discipline!!

I am keeping the raincoat - thanks catherine for the real life review and JAileen for the clarification (mine isn't noisy) - it sounds like it will do exactly what I need and the neutral color is a plus from a traveling light standpoint.

I'm also keeping the cords, but decided to hem them to a lower heeled boot - I am determined to not let my fantasy life desire to look taller interfere with my comfort and real life - so the low heeled boots for the win!

I like the shape of the jacket and the lenght. With this shape you feel more elegant in a city I think. The color I cannot really say. With the brown background on my screen it looks more greenish. I love how you look with the glasses by the way. And I tried the Boden raincoat and for me it was to heavy and stiff.

Hi Karen,
I have that same Eddie Bauer coat in black and aubergine. It transitioned well from Minnesota to Reno (Minnesota summer vs. Reno winter). Both colors have worked well for me. The silhouette is most flattering on you.

The coat is a beautiful fit on you, I am not loving the colour, but it is super practical for travel and so neutral that it will work with everything. A nice scarf or bright top would would also help to lift the look. However, I do like the coats that kkards has suggested!

I love the top and I think it will work in this size if you semi-tuck. But if you can try it in a smaller size, that makes sense, too. It's because the neckline is quite open and the sleeves not set in.

It's hard to judge the colour of the coat due to the (#$U(@_) winter light, but I think it's a keeper. A packable raincoat is a great item to have. I'm also looking at the Bodens, but I agree with you, they are a different type of item.

I defer to the expert on PPL!

Thanks all! Opaline - I love velvet and this piece is a rare inexpensive one where the nap runs the correct way. I hate ordering velvet on line because if the the nap is wrong, the light catches on the upper bust in a really bad look for me. It is worse on dark velvet.

Angie - I have had the Boden ones on my radar for ages (the burgundy and navy polka dot spoke to me!), but I needed lighter weight, uninsulated, washable, breathable and more neutral for travel. I have a heavier cold weather raincoat that is just too hard to pack. And I think my cheap mirror was not only slanted but has developed a warp in the upper half. I will pin the pants a bit shorter and will also try the slant hem - I agree the break looks sloppy. Not sure I can find the velvet top in an XS petite, but I should not settle until I try.

JAileen - It is pretty wrinkled out of the bag - thanks for the heads up. I just read the reviews and several mention it works well for travel and one says she washes and tumbles dry for a few minutes and that is all it takes. I will maybe steam the wrinkles and wear it sitting for a while to see if it is an issue.

The photo proportions look a little odd, karen13 - I think because your mirror is at an angle? But from what I can see, the length and fit of the raincoat looks good. Is it the type of coat you were looking for? If you decide you want something more playful, these raincoats from Boden are lovely.

The break lines on the jeans at that length do not look right. Try them a little shorter.

And did you try a smaller size on the top, perhaps?

I have been on a grey diet for a few years (I love it but it does not seem to love me back). Yet I just bought 3 grey items. Oh, and some shoes on the way.

1-3) What do you think of this Eddie Bauer Girl On the Go Trenchcoat coat? Since my NYC trip in the fall, I've been trying to fill a hole of a practical waterproof packable travel raincoat that I can dress up or down for city travel. Is the grey JFE for me? I like the subtle herringbone pattern, removable hood, 3 zip pockets and the slightly longer length. It is lightweight, lined but not insulated. I can layer under it, but I'm actually expecting to wear it in warm wet weather. It is more technical than most fashion jackets, in terms of breathability. TTS

4-5) I have been coveting Suz's grey velvet t all year. I found this one in a petite on a big sale and thought I'd take a chance. It is intentionally oversized - I think a size down would lack the drape over my bust - I took my normal PS. I'm trying to lighten my tops a bit a la Janet's and a few others recent posts, but I am not into high contrast between tops and pants on me - does this color/shape work? And how to style?

PPL on the Cords? GAP midrise bootcuts, they run a size big - I sized down one size from my typical jeans. The Petites and Short sizes are crazy long!! I usually find Petites too short even for a 1" heel and these need at least a 1 inch hem with a 2.25" heel. I pinned them and then dropped it .25", because Angie always tells me to go longer. The Shorts are a bit shorter, but still not very short. Is this length right?

And I promise to wear these pieces with color and not all together if I keep - this is just for advice, so pardon the bed head and no makeup (although I tossed on a bright lippie to counter all the grey). Thanks !
