Anthro just posted 50% off sale items! I called and they said I could bring my receipt in to get a price adjustment. That would make the fur and tweed jacket $49. Woohoo! I returned all the other ones, but now there's no way I'm returning the tweed one! Claire, the fur collar comes off completely--I'll post the catalog pictures so you can see what the collar underneath looks like. Basically the same shape as the fur collar, but with the tweed instead.

Fellow Bay Area YLF'ers, thank you for coming to my defense, LOL. Yes, it's true that summers are often colder than winter, with the fog. And I live on top of the mountain where the fog rolls in morning and night year round. So I basically have only one wardrobe and that's for fall/winter.

So fun to see everyone's coat list!
OK I have to come completely clean--I did not include jackets in my earlier list! So I also have 14 jackets:
Old red REI fleece
Old brown SFZoo fleece
Old blue REI rain jacket (no longer waterproof)
Old brown North Face windbreaker
Hinge faux shearling vest
Gap denim jacket
Halogen black plaid zip moto style peacoat--Nordstrom
Tulle rust peacoat-Nordstrom
Tulle raspberry blazer-Loehmann's
Anthro mustard cropped blazer
Anthro green cropped blazer
Tahari black leather jacket-Nordstrom
Lafayette 148 cognac leather jacket--Nordstrom Rack
White and black trim cropped jacket--White House Black Market

Making a total of 25 pieces of outerwear! I think I need to go hide under a rock!

Sign me up for the twelve step program. I feel guilty for wanting to buy another wool coat (the Jcrew metro) when I live in the SF bay area, as I've never worn a winter coat here.

Current coat complement:

Black wool coat
Black/green/blue fancy Desigual coat
Plum trench (lined - what I'm wearing now that it's "bay area winter")
Lightweight black rain coat.
Gear fleece/shell - only used for athletic activity
Denim jacket - does this even count?

I see people wearing wool coats in the city but I think I'd overheat... I only wear mine traveling to colder climates.

So what can I justify adding? A pea coat?

BR double faced wool camel wrap coat, belted
Cabbages & Roses Barberry maxi coat, dark navy

Natalie, I agree with the others and I think you made the right decision.

In Natalie's defense:
I also live very close to San Francisco and I wear a coat ALL YEAR ROUND because even in the summer, night-times are 55 degrees and foggy / windy. One of the things I look forward to when I visit my family in Minnesota during the summer is being able to sit outside - comfortably - in the evenings!

My own confession: I have eight (that I can remember!) and another one on order.
bold flower-patterned twill coat
black cropped leather jacket
camel cropped leather jacket
black knee-length blazer-type wool jacket
camel knee-length heavy wool jacket
pink raincoat
aqua puffer vest
casual snowsports jacket

I'm glad you're keeping the first one! The price is certainly affordable and the collar detail is super flattering. I love that you can remove the fur part for the hubs. Is the cloth collar the same fab shape?

For the record, I don't like a ton of layers either. Anymore than a tank+shirt+cardi+coat or tank+shirt+blazer and I start to feel like a stuffed sausage!

I do like the jacket in #1-#4, but agree: how many coats do you have now? ETA: I see you just confessed to "your number", LOL. #5-#8 is not a flattering cut. #9-#12 is a great fabric and cut, but seems to large in the top and too short in the sleeves. And you do seem to be in between sizes on the Willow jacket.

Thanks all for your help! I am keeping the first Anthro coat but everything else doesn't fit or feel exactly right and is getting the boot! And I will see if the Anthro coat fits better in the XS when it arrives.

Jean, I too have been kinda disappointed in ASOS. It takes forever for packages to get here (my first one got lost and took over a month to arrive, but even the other ones take over a week). And then it takes a while for the return to be credited too. Agree that the ASOS quality isn't the best for the price (I have some skirts that I had to keep because it was too late to return, and I'm going to have to buy a steamer to get out the wrinkles before I can wear them). They do carry a lot of non-ASOS brand stuff though so it varies. Like this coat is made by Darling and is lined and very nice quality. If it were the right size I'd probably keep it. Bummed because I love the coat but it's just the wrong fit.

Haha Angie, you busted me! I do have too many coats now, I confess I am a coat junkie! I've never lived where it snows but I am a cold ex-desert wimp and love to be super toasty warm! I am not good at layering yet, so I prefer to wear one layer and throw a thick heavy coat on.

I haven't kept everything I've posted here or bought though, so that may make it seem like I have even more than I do. Like I returned that camel cape because it wasn't the best for my coloring and was too hard to style. I never actually wore it out (tags were still on). But yes I think I have more coats than I need. Confessional time--for the record, I now have eleven coats (insert bag over head smiley):
Old knee length black Calvin Klein wool coat
Old black and white herringbone Ann Taylor thigh length wool coat (all my old coats are a size too big though)
Old red Columbia snow parka
Black Kate Spade ruffle trench
Red Anthro corset trench
Red Anthro raincoat with butterfly print lining
Olive Anthro parka with faux shearling lining
Brown Land's end puffer
Cream Betsey Johnson puffer (yes I don't need this one but it was so fab I kept it)
Rust J Crew plaza wool coat (to replace my old camel wool coat that I donated)
Purple tweed Anthro coat (I know I don't need it, but it's fun and I love it and it was cheap!)

But I still maintain that these are all very different coats and all serve different purposes in my wardrobe. I think this will be it for me though! You have the right to do a coat intervention if I buy any more coats!

I love the first Anthro coat! I think I would return the rest of them... the ASOS coat looks like it does not fit right and is making you look larger than you are. The Anthro blazer fits nicely but I am not crazy about the styling with the big patch pockets. And while I really really want to like the Willow and Clay jacket because the style is so cool, I think that you are right that neither size fits you correctly. The L is too big overall and the M looks like it is too tight around the buttons.

I like the first coat, it's really fun with the retro collar. I'm not excited about the fit of any of the other new coats. I liked the M riding jacket when you posted it, but I think you need a thin tank instead of a turtleneck to resolve the pulling issue.

The first coat is a keeper- adorable, flattering and unusual. None of the others wow me. I think ASOS is too big The blazers do not have quite the right fit IMO.
How is the Asos quaility? I have been very disappointed in their materials. Their dresses pill easily and the wool arrives wrinkled, not a good sign for wearing.

LOVE the Anthro coat and what a bargain!!
Love their styles and the videos but sad when it arrives.

Definite yea for the Anthro coat. Does your cat sense a rival in the fur collar? Looks like she's making a run for it in pic#6 My next vote goes to the W&C Riding jacket size M. It's plaid seems the right scale for you and it has a beautiful cut and fabric. I agree the fit is a wee bit off but maybe you could shift the buttons over slightly. Maybe an under layer with less friction will allow the jacket to sit better, eg a silky Pima or silk?

GP, the first coat is definitely a keeper. I also love the other, claret-colored, Anthro blazer. I think it's a really good fit on you. The only thing that's throwing me off is the (to my eye) wonky placement of the chest pocket. It looks bulky and like it sits too high on the chest. Very odd. In any case, a good tailor could deal with that, and adjust the sleeve length too, if needed.

Honestly, the only thing I absolutely love here is the first coat. The ASOS coat does not have a flattering fit, sadly. #3 is nice but nothing fab to my eye. I love the W&C jacket but it seems too small in M and too big in L to me. I think Mo has a small shoulder span and upper body which makes her able to fit into these teeny coats!

I vote Keep for the first coat, from Anthro. Lucky you for finding such a cool coat.

I vote Return for the ASOS coat. Nice collar detail though, but the size is too big on you.

The claret blazer is awesome! A definite keeper.

I'm on the fence about the last, plaid blazer. I don't like it on you the way I like the claret blazer. But if you decide you love it, go for the smaller size. The bigger size looks frumpy whereas the M looks sharp.

Oddly enough, I seem to have accumulated a plethora of plum-colored coats and jackets in my latest coat search. I'm not planning on keeping them all of course! Which one is the winner? They all seem to have some fit issues though, so I'm not sure if any of them work.

1-4. Anthropologie Umbered Houndstooth Coat size S. I went to pick up the orange Bailey 44 dress and noticed this hanging on the sale rack. I had tried it on several months ago but didn't buy it then (picked up a shearling parka instead). It was originally $298, now it's marked down twice to $99 and with the extra 30% off sale items was only $69! So it had to come home with me! I love the tweed and fur collar and the vintage-y vibe (although I know it's kind of an "old lady" coat). The fur collar is detachable though so I can de-fur it for DH if necessary. The only thing is I'm not sure if it's a little too big on me. I had a hard time finding an XS and had to call five different stores and finally found one (the last one in the entire nation, it seems!). So the XS is on its way to me now so I can compare sizes. I think this one is my favorite of all the jackets here, plus it's the cheapest!

5-8. Darling Princess Coat from ASOS, size L. I found this claret-colored coat and ordered it in a small, which was the only size available initially. But the coat was too tight at the waist because of my apple shape, and gapped open at the bottom below the waist, which made me feel horribly fat. So I sent it back. Then a L became available so I decided to gamble on that. But I think the L is too big on me and makes me look huge too. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a M anywhere so I think I will have to give up on this one. Too bad because it's a lovely color and style is right up my alley with the lace collar and fit-and-flare silhouette.

9-12. Anthro herringbone blazer. I barely remember ordering this, LOL. The fit is OK, but I don't love it. The sleeves are too short and it feels a little too thick and masculine for me.

13-16. Willow and Clay riding jacket, size L (pictures with the black turtleneck. It looked so great on Mo. I initially tried this in a M but you guys advised me to size up because the arms and torso were too tight. I managed to find it in a size L, but I feel like it's a little too big now and gaps up at the bust. Not sure what the problem is that neither size seems to fit me just right but again, I'm sure it has something to do with being an apple. Argh.
17-20. Willow and Clay riding jacket, size M (with the white turtleneck). Which size looks better on me, or should I give up on this style?

Thanks for looking and for your advice!
