I'm sorry Kathy: I hope they get a new batch in soon. That surprises me, since they weren't even on sale.

E, Thanks so much for the information! They sound like they would work well for me because I have fussy, high volume feet as well. I definitely need extra room in the toe box area. Unfortunately they are sold out in the grey in size 37 at Nordstrom now. Darn! I signed up for the wait list so as soon as it comes back in stock I'll try them out. Thanks so much. They really are a cute boot and look great on you. Enjoy them!

Thank you Shannon!

Thanks for all of the feedback Vix. I'll experiment with 'filling in the gap' when the weather cools. I'm a knitter, so I could knit a little cuff to wear when I don't feel like wearing tall socks.

Thnx Diane!

Kathy, I don't mind at all. I'm 5'3" but have a long torso: my legs are the same length as my 5'1" mother. I just measured: if I hold the tape measure at zero at the very edge of my heel (where it touches the ground), it hits the middle of my back knee crease at 16". The boots don't hit the back of my legs when I walk or sit down: when I measure from the back of the heel up to the edge of the boot, I get 14".

I'm between a 6 1/2 and 7 in US sizing, usually I end up in a 7. The 37 fits perfectly (my foot shape/issues: I have narrow heels but wider forefeet/toes that don't appreciate any hint of squishing & I have 'high volume' feet due to high instep & arches; I have arthritis which requires a sturdy but flexible sole & lots of general comfort but I don't need the arch support padding found in rigid comfort shoes like Danskos or Birks).

I hope all of that helps! If you have any more questions, just ask. Zappos doesn't carry this boot in this colour in our size right now, but Nordstrom does.

These look great on you! I love the color. I've been eyeing these boots in that color myself. What size do you wear in American sizing? I'm a size 7 usually which would correspond with European size 37. Also, if you don't mind me asking, how tall are you? I'm a shortie at 5 feet tall and I have problems with the shaft of the boot hitting me at my knees with many styles. Thanks in advance!!

Hi E --

I saw your other boots post (or *another* boots post?) last week and from what I remember, I do think these are the better choice.

The gap does bother me a little, I can't help it, ha. But between your style and the boot's style, I think it works. And as you said, you're showing them with a very light pair of tights. The color will look gorgeous with your muted tones and from everything I've heard about the brand they'll suit your active lifestyle.

Since I now see you're in love with them I think you can call off the hunt!

[And yes, why can't we have a million options in grey/taupe boots....]

Hi Alana!

The calves do have a zipper, but not a full one. It starts at the instep & goes up 10", which leaves 5" at the top. For me, it was really easy to get them on as long as the zipper is unzipped (and I have huge problems getting things like cowboy boots on). There's a functional ankle buckle, so you can adjust the width there as necessary.

And I just checked: at the loosest option, the top buckle is 16 3/4" around. I think that must be as far as the elastic gusset will stretch. I really hope these work out for you! Lol @ your envelope of cash. I just missed getting a great deal on a new pair from Ebay, but I console myself that Nordstrom's has excellent customer service.

Yay! Thanks so much to everyone for their input: I agree that they have good workhorse potential & I’m relieved to hear that Pikolinos are good quality. Of course, now I’m eyeing other Pikolinos shoes too…will have to start saving my pennies.

I tried to sound less attached to them in the post, so I’d get honest feedback, but I’m super in love with them. I almost didn’t want to put them in a k/r post, in case you all told me it was too much gaping! But I’m glad I did, as now I can wear them with full confidence. :)

I ended up returning all of the Frye boots, which means I'm still in the market for a knee high replacement, preferably in a grey or taupe light enough to bookend my hair. Aubergine recommended I look at Pikolinos, and I ordered these from Nordstrom's (not part of the sale) to give them a try.

Here they are with skinnies & a skirt/tights. The tights are very thin, and in cooler weather I enjoy layering knee socks over tights too, so that would help with the (inevitable) gap. When I tried on the Veronica slouches, y'all said that the slouchiness helped the gap look more natural: is that the case here too? I don't mind the gap myself, but then I'm not fussy about that.

These are incredibly comfortable, adapt to a variety of sock/tight weights, & feel sturdy & well made. The little heel adds a touch of dressiness & I love the purple-y tones to the grey. Pikolinos seem like a more responsible corporation too, which relieves my mind. I actually didn't expect to like them at all from the product photo, with the ruching and the buckles, but in person I've definitely fallen for them. If they get forum approval, I'll happily keep them & stop looking for knee high boots.

So, what does everyone think? Do they work as bookenders? Or at least, do they not weigh my outfit down? I didn't bother to wear actual woolens (it's too hot here), but I'm showing them with a light top & dark bottoms so that there's the most bottom heaviness possible. You should be able to enlarge the pics to see more detail, but if that doesn't work, I can photograph some close ups.

If you've had Pikolinos, have they stood up well to wear?

I know at least a couple other Fabbers were interested in these, so feel free to ask any questions. I'm happy to take measurements if you need them! These are a 37, my usual Euro size. The buckles are both adjustable, and the calf also has an elastic gusset, for those with larger calves (mine are 13", so anyone with thin calves who prefers a snug fit is out of luck).
