I'll jump in to say I think you could do better with both, except maybe the sweater color and v are hard to find.
I have a similar problem with tops with that type of band hem- have to size up and then may be too big. I tend to look fir different hem, curved, asymmetrical.

I like the style of the skirt, but as others have pointed out, I think it needs to be shorter. I think that if the skirt is hemmed, then the untucked sweater might look better proportion-wise. Right now the length of the sweater and the length of the skirt are very close, which creates unflattering proportions.

I agree with Firecracker that I would like to see the skirt styled with some boots.

I'm not a fan of the skirt, maybe because it's the shiny material or maybe you because it looks too long, so go a bit shorter??!! If you are planning to wear a sweater with it, I'd suggest something a little more cropped or boxy.

I love the sweater on you. I like it both ways, bloused and worn long. In fact, I agree with Tina--I like the sweater worn long with this skirt. To me, the footwear throws off the look; I think the skirt needs to be shorter, perhaps, to work with the clunky sneaker. But I could see this outfit with boots, certainly, such as a flat riding boot, or a high-shaft bootie. Perhaps a clunky moto boot, where there is no break between the skirt and boot top.
I wonder, though, if the skirt is a not-quite length: a bit long for a midi, and not quite long enough for maxi. I might try pinning it up and seeing if it looks more flattering and intentional. I think the fabric and drape look luxurious. I kind of want to dress it up, too.

I yearn for a look along similar lines. I think the colour of the sweater is great, as is the v neck. I think I may try a sweater with a higher front or with slits on the side seams. I haven't yet found a skirt and jumper that gives me the the right proportions but you've made me want to look for this look again.

I love the concept:). The shape of the skirt looks a little dated to me and the sweater doesn’t look oversized(again to me). Depending what n what you want to achieve, these may not be quite the right pieces. I could see the sweater warm loosely over a lovely slim fitting pair of pants tho!

Thanks for all of your replies. I'll have to revisit my wardrobe and actually try on different outfits, because what works in one's imagination doesn't always pan out in reality.

LP, I have the same thoughts about the sweater, I love it when it's semi-tucked, or even slightly folded, but not when it's worn as a straight-up tunic.

UmmLila, yeah, if I could wear something lighter for a full day out, I would. I'm thinking the skirt option isn't realistic because of footwear--that, and I have a poison eye to anything long and A-line, even though that style tends to work well with my body type.

Janet, the sweater is Equipment's Linden model. Most of the photos online that I've seen of models wearing the sweater involve wearing it in a tuck or semi-tuck way. The skirt isn't a bias cut. In the photos, in looks straightish, with a slight A-line, but on me, it has a bit of a flair at the bottom.

I agree with anchie and would like to see how you would wear both pieces. I am all for longer skirts but agree with Janet that this one may be a bit too long. It is a length that showcases your thighs rather than your legs, but may be different in r/l. Usually the hips get the emphasis with these skirts. The soft green color of the sweater is lovely and looks great with black.

Ok, I have very similar fit concerns/issues, so I can't help but chime in. I like the sweater and have some with a similar fit -- they either need to be semi-tucked or hiked up to blouse over a bit, or they just cling to my hips. I do like this one on you and would probably wear it semi-tucked with sleeves scrunched. If you don't mind, where is it from? I like that neckline and color too.

I'm not as fond of the skirt. I think it's the combination of the length (a little too long) and something about the fit -- is it bias cut? I can never get bias cuts to work on me. Maybe different footwear and styling would sway me.

Photo 1 is a very current look that I personally love. But if it is difficult to keep the tunic sweater in the slouched mode, I think you need another sweater. Otherwise you'll be fidgeting all day! Could look nice with black loafers.

The sweater strikes me as just too big, despite it being an oversized cut and look....I think it's the sleeve length that is giving it the too-big look. I love the colour though. I can't comment on the midiskirt - not in my style repertoire at all.

I like the sweater, as worn in #1--not as crazy about the skirt. Maybe try the next size down in the sweater just for comparison? Like La Pedestrienne, I would like to see the skirt styled with different tops as well as shoes/boots that you plan to wear with it.

I really love the way the sweater looks in #1 -- but if it doesn't sit like that IRL, I'm not sure I'd keep it. When it's tunic-length, I don't like it nearly as much -- it loses most of its slouchy/oversized vibe. It is such a great colour though!

I'm not in love with the skirt, but it sounds like an item you've been wanting for a long time. Again, I like the way it looks best in #1 -- it seems fuller there, and less fitted, which to my eye reads as more current? For me, this would be a difficult silhouette to style. It doesn't really lend itself to fit-n-flare the way a full skirt would, but it's a a bit too much length for a longer/looser top. Do you have specific tops and toppers to wear with this skirt? Shoes? I find skirts become orphans so easily if you aren't absolutely sure you have the rest of the pieces necessary to make outfits.

Two items recently caught my eye, both of which tick boxes. The first is an oversized cashemere sweater--incredibly, not black! I love double V-neck cuts, which are difficult to find, and the colour is the perfect green for me. I sized up because I wanted it to skim along my hips, rather than cling. Left to its own devices, the sweater falls just below my saddlebags, however. With small front tuck, or a the hem folded, this isn't an issue, but it means the styled option in the photo isn't an option.

This leads me to the second find, à midi skirt. I tried on this cut in a light shimmery colour nearly a year ago and passed because it wasn't flattering enough, but I couldn't get the skirt out of my mind. The material is thin, and the cut is slim but loose, which prevent it from looking overwhelming or frumpy (to my eye). The drawback is that the skirt traces the body's outline, which includes saddlebags, but this doesn't bother me as much as it used to.

As usual, I'll sit on these options for a few days, and reassses once the novelty factor wears off, but what do you think? The third pic is just intended to fully show the cut of the skirt
