Alana, you have articulated it perfectly, and I think a lot of us have been there. But you know what? You're a vibrant and attractive woman, and you deserve to have nice things and to look pretty. Yes, even "fancy"! :-)
I hope you'll give yourself permission.

Parsley--those are lovely--and how thoughtful of you to include the links to plus sized items for me. Thank you.

Oh my. I think you just made me realise something. Let me see if I can articulate it.
Both of those blouses look "dressy" to me--and so, before YLF I would never, ever have even looked twice at them--or, really, at any blouse because I do not "need" dressy clothes. I have a non-dress up job, when I am at home, really all I need to do is change out of PJs and until my epiphany in the Spring, yoga pants got the job done. I have sublimated my wants to my needs for such a long time, I have no idea if I *want* one of these gorgeous blouses or not. I will have to think about this some more--but you have identified a blind spot for me. (and I confess there is a little voice that is whispering "Those are too fancy for you." Silly voice.) Thank you.

Alana, you've got a point! It would be nice to have some layering tees.
In addition, for times when it's too cold for sleeveless and not cold enough for sweaters, what about woven tops? They could be button front shirts, or something like this:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/be.....ze/3816989?
or this
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/se.....ze/3694827?

I find that woven tops can look a little more polished and flattering than a tee, but still make good layering pieces.

I like the fit and colour. I like the marled effect and as you move into autumn and winter I think that some lighter grey / silver might be a refreshing lift.

And I get your confusion - one thing that helps me is to think about my wardrobe in a way that I read one fashion designer did it - basically you have talking pieces and listening pieces. We're naturally drawn to the talking pieces (they're distinctive / loud in terms of colour, design, fabric, texture, cut etc - often they are statement pieces), but if you have a wardrobe of talking pieces then you often find that you have nothing to wear because you are lacking listening pieces (the supporting pieces , basics etc). The listening pieces are the ones that let the talking pieces shine, or bring together several talking pieces into a meaningful look. The problem is when you find these pieces in shops (and analyse them on their own) they are often a bit boring, uninspiring, indifferent etc) so we pass them by. A good recent example is Shannon's outfit with the black pencil skirt and top (the listening pieces) and the bronze metallic open knit hi-lo cardigan and Doc's (the talking pieces).
http://http//youlookfab.com/we.....onze-boots

That was a long-winded way of saying that I think that this is a great listening piece (putting aside itchy issues) that will become a work-horse

Alaskagirl--my goodness, thank you. I was getting mighty anxious and upset thinking I'd have to deal with yet another return! It is just so odd how high the vee is, though!
Inge, thanks! Now I can move on to some white, I think.
Thank you, Suz.
Marley--thanks so much for that suggestion and the info. Unfortunately, the Gap does not carry my size.
Astrid--thank you for thinking about it! And I am relieved you think the neckline is OK for Fall. I had not taken the season into consideration, but you're right.
Ceit--oh, that is scary.
Susie--I will keep looking for a cotton blend.
Parsley--well, here's the thing--I have almost no Tee shirts. How the heck am I going to dress when the temp is too cold for sleeveless but not cold enough for sweaters? As well, with a basic like this, I can move on to more fun and exciting things like drapey, flowy cardigan type thingys. (see below) :)
Mona--I bought my first cami! I could wear it under, I suppose. Or over. That might be interesting.
Shannon--thanks for stopping in. If Alaska girl says the itch washes out, then I will keep it.
Laura, thanks for the positive words!

So, I wrote all that--and reread wht you all had to say and I'm still not sure. I just wish I knew what the heck I was doing and that this wasn't so darn hard.

This looks good to me and a basic tee is always useful. ON items are always itchy till, washed. I think it's some kind of coating they put on clothes or some other conspiracy to make you wash stuff so you can't return it.

It looks good on you Alana - and for what you are going to use it for, I think that the neckline is fine - but are you OK with "fine?" I mean sometimes we need some of the essentials that aren't all that exciting on their own to be the glue that makes an outfit great.
The itchiness is a mystery to me. I also am one to wash my clothing before wearing it - but then if you do that you wouldn't be able to return it, right?

Have you tried the tees at GAP? I think they make some in 100% cotton - or a mix of cotton and something else - and it seems as though they always have every color that you could possibly think of! They also have pretty good sales - like, I think on Tuesdays, everything is 20% off - and on weekends things are usually marked down as well! Might be worth checking out!

I tend to return things that are itchy straight out of the bag, because I have a lot of issues with itchy things. Non-itchy linen DOES exist. Also, be aware the linen will make it less warm, if that is an issue with you in cooler weather.

Hmm. I have had linen that itches a bit when it's first new. Something about the flax fibers and how they are longer than cotton. But linen does tend to get softer as you wash and wear it. So I take back my earlier statement, with cautions

The fabric is 51% linen and 49% poly.

I like it! The color and actually the length, IMO, are great. I can see what you're saying about the neckline, but I don't think it's a killer. However, I've never had anything stop itching if it itched when I tried it on, and that's a deal breaker for me.

I returned the entire ON order from last time and decided to re-order everything in a 2X. I am very pleased I did.

I am happy with the sweaters.

The Tee is giving me grief.

Pro:
It fits.
As far as grey Tees go, this isn't a bad colour. I like the marled effect.
The sleeves are a perfect length.
Love the shape of the hem.
I need T-shirts. Honest to goodness. I realise now why I relied on my Walmart Tees so much--they actually fit the way I wanted them too, even though they are not terribly stylish.

Cons:
Length: as always, with tees, a bit short for my liking.
Fabric--it is a bit itchy, straight out of the bag. Will that go away with washing?

Questions:
Does this colour look good on me? Should I give up on grey as a "next to my face" colour (except perhaps, charcoal)?

Neckline--love the vee--but does this seem a bit high? I have noticed that the more skin I bare, the better clothes look.

Here it is with my jeans and two possible "stylings." I probably won't wear any of the Tees without toppers until Spring--but this is a look I will wear often--especially for working around the house. I need a Tee and topper! (I get alternately hot and cold depending on what I am doing and how hard I am working. Right? Hot when vacuuming stairs and doing dishes, cold when dusting and picking up. You know.)

ETA: The grey-blue scoop neck tee for colour and neckline "length" comparison.
