Sorry you are ill! As for the coat. I like the color but I have never been such a big double-breasted coat fan (even though I know they are "classic"). I like the length.

Claire, this happens to me too - the belt is over my bottom ribs - and I have moved it down an inch or two to my actual waist. On dresses this is often something you can do yourself. I figure even if this has a bad effect on proportions, it's compensated for by making you look like you have a much smaller waist, if that makes sense.

AJ. all belted dresses and trenches hit on my ribcage, maybe Una has a long torso like me. I've toyed with the idea of moving the belt loops down to my waistline, but then the proportions of the garment might be thrown off. Just my two cents.

Are you looking for this to be a 10 or just something fun for the emerald trend?

If fun, then I say keep. Looking for a 10, then return.

Does the belt sit at your waist? It looks a tiny bit high.

Um. For some reason, I feel like that belt needs to be different --- a teensy bit heavier weight or with tabs, or something. To my eye, it compares as a bit flimsy with the rest of the design, with buttons on --- maybe if it were a more minimal pattern, like some of those in elpgal's link...

How would you feel about trying it with a black or brown leather belt, like the one in Angie's recent anti-fit post with the Sartorialist photo?

Agree with others that it will probably be more fun worn open or at least unbuttoned and belted. Hope you feel better and up to experimenting with it soon!

Una, I'm sorry but it's just not doing it for me. In the picture the quality doesn't look great and I don't think the shape of the trench is all that flattering done up. I would like to see it worn open. I hope don't mind me saying but this is just not the standard I am used to seeing you in.

I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. Know that you and all of the far flung ylf'ers were in our hearts today as we wandered the city and tried to scheme a way to do a worldwide YLF gathering :)

I think the trench is really pretty on you. I like where the belt hits at your waist. It is a super trendy piece, I think ON is ok for stuff like this. You'll probably end up replacing it with a classic trench in a year or two anyway, why not have some fun with a bright color for this year?

I vote YAY! It seems like the perfect cheap and cheerful shot in the arm for your short summers. You don't need bullet proof quality for this application, IMHO. If you're not still in love with it after a few years, or it wears out, or you loose it, or what have you, you can just move on and find something new since it's not a Burberry.

Fit seems decent and if you never want to roll the cuffs, you can just cut off the button and tabs. The color is what makes it super-fun, and you wear it well. Hope you're feeling better! It's really not fair that you look that good ill. :/

Jonesy, it's just a plain regular sleeve - I folded it back once.

I see your point about the button.

Still have yet to find a classic trench that works for me. The belt on the sleeve always snags on stuff. What to do...?

I am on the fence. I love the color and the fit seems good. I am not a fan of the button on the sleeves (for rolling them up) or the shirt cuff finish on the sleeves (if that's what it is?). I guess I like a more classic trench sleeve, with the little belt on it :). How does it look open? I like them open more, somehow...

Interesting! I see what you mean - do you think it's a matter of difference in style (classic vs. trendy), or how it actually looks? I've never been able to pull off a classic trench - too much going on with the shoulders (those flaps, or epaulets, or big lapels). And the collar needs to lie flat for my short neck.

This utterly amazing Burberry trench, for example, would look horrid on me:

The quality is typical ON - it's not stellar, but it's not flimsy either. Lack of lining is the only real issue. But this is replacing my lost trench from last year, which was only worn in summer so I think it's good for that kind of use. The color is brighter than in the picture,

Here's the ON trench in a petite size. I think this works - the small was too tight in the shoulders to accommodate real clothese, but the M was too big in the body. What do you all think? Sleeves can be rolled with a tab or down to full length.
