Diana, just chiming up to say I'm super excited for you on this purchase. I think the creasing is the nemesis of us curvies. I also think the mild whiskering is completely acceptable, to my eye. They are not snug or slouchy, they are just right. This is just a much more classic fit, which is fine too, IMO. I see many stylish women everyday in pants fitting this way. Thumbs up from me!

As a side note, I secretly think that is why many fashion bloggers photograph themselves with their hands on their pockets, when wearing pants, to help with the 'ole whiskering. That creasing is so exaggerated in photos, I swear.

Thanks, all! I think I will keep them. Am excited about trying out trousers! It's interesting about the creasing - I guess all my pants and jeans do this to some extent although usually it's just right around the crotch, not all the way up. Somehow I feel like it's OK with tight pants (like the micro checks) but should be less pronounced with looser ones? Still, I think it doesn't show when I'm moving around, which is most of the time, so I think I'm OK with it.

Mani, I will try a belt but honestly I'm not sure I want the waist to go any higher! I am short waisted enough as is and belts around my natural waist tend to squish my rib cage when I sit, which is really uncomfortable.

Janet, I have that issue too sometimes. With jeans, I look for things with medium or even low rise in front but a high rise in back to accomodate my butt. They don't seem to make trousers that way, I guess.

Angie, that is an interesting point about the spandex. These are 95% wool, 5% spandex but the fabric doesn't feel very stretchy. I actually don't know why they bother to use fabric with spandex for these, because they are fully lined and the lining does not stretch. Are higher price point trousers likely to be spandex-free or am I just doomed to have spandex no matter what? (By the way, I tried editors and I HATED them in all sizes because of the super stretchy fabric. Well, that and the fact that the waist was gapingly massive while the butt was still tight.)
BTW, a size up was ridiculously large in the waist, like I could see down into my crotch large. Although I know I could have them tailored to be honest right now I am not even sure how often I will wear trousers so I don't want to pay the additional expense until I know I like them.

You look great in trousers. I think there's a difference between ill fit and unique fit - some of us are just not going to fill out the rear view, or have thighs that will change the creasing, or whatever. I think you look svelte and leggy!

I have clients whose trousers fit in this way and that's how we buy them (the fit of the first pair that is). To my eye, they are not loose. Just tailored and your size, Diana. A size down would have been far too small.

I'd also have liked to see a size up - but the first pair here are fab! It's very hard to get rid of that puckering, even when you size up, because of the curves on the thigh *and* the spandex content in the fabric.

My thumbs are up!

Diana, I empathize! I almost always have those creases too, even in jeans, and they actually are sometimes even worse when pants are roomy on me, so I don't think it's always a case of sizing up. The point Beth Ann makes about thigh curve is really interesting -- I definitely have a pronounced thigh curve, and running has not made it smaller! I also have a short rise and a relatively flat tummy, and a lot of pants I try on do a weird pouchy thing where there is too much fabric at the front, like they're cut for someone with more tummy than I have, but I think it's a rise issue. Trousers are tricky.

Diana, I always have this issue with all my trousers. I thought it had to do with my pear shaped body but take a loot at this link. http://www.alreadypretty.com/2.....-pull.html

Diana, if feels good, I say keep!!! I'm not botherred by those little creases on front at all! It looks good to my eyes, front and back!
Hmmm. interresting what Beth Ann said about that curve on the front of the tights, I do have it, too!! And almost all my trousers have some little creases there on front, no matter what size and cut...:-((. So was forced to get used to them:-(.
Curious what Angie's verdict will be!

Isn't it a great feeling to find pants that fit and flatter?

I think you were right about the front rise being just a smidge too long --- so the waistband is in the right place and the hip and legs are where they belong, it's nicely filled out at the back, but in front there's a little bit of extra fabric that is falling into creases as it has nowhere to go (they can't fall down and smoothe themselves out because your hips are holding the pants up... actually, just as they should!). A belt just might take care of that by hitching the waist slightly higher. Have a go?

That is so interesting. So it might just be the way the light of the flash is bouncing around.

I would say if they look like in the mirror shot and they feel good, then you are doing great!

I have a thigh curve, too, and it is true that it can create more tension in that area than those with thin limbs would experience.

Hmm, Suz you might be on to something. They do not look as creasy IRL, so I took a photo in my mirror and there is so much less creasing. So odd. But I guess the mirror is more like what someone else would see since it's from eye level, right? Normally I put my camera lower since that's pretty much the only way I can get my whole body in my WIW photos, so I know it does distort a little.

Beth Ann, I do have that thigh curve! I think you might be right about it. Plus I know one of the consequences of my bad posture/swayback is that I tend to stick my hips and thighs out too far forward.

Diana: Do you have a curve on the front of your thigh? I do, and I think it leads to a little creasing in the front unless the trouser is heavy, like a jean, or VERY wide legged (think palazzo pants, and yes, I had 'em). I like the view from side and back. What happens when you belt them?

PS love the microchecks.

Hmm. I am not sure. Looking at them I would say they are a bit snug. But you say they feel loose. So maybe it's the rise. (On the other hand, wouldn't a problem in the rise make them feel snug.?) So I am wondering if it might be simply the weight of this fabric and the way it photographs.

I went to BR this evening to return the cream silk shirt, and came home with these Martin trousers. They are wool and fully lined, hooray. I went one size up as per Angie's instructions, and the drape is much better and more modern looking than my real size (which fit, but like the early 00's trouser fit that Angie mentioned). What do you guys think? I am still kind of unsure about perfect trouser fits. Is the slight creasing in the front by the fly indicative of a fit problem, or is that just normal? They are definitely not too tight, in fact they feel quite roomy all over, but perhaps the front rise is a little too high? Keep or return? ETA: Took a photo in my mirror (see the last photo) and there is much less creasing so it might have something to do with my camera angle?

Photos 7-9 are of a slim pair of micro-plaid wool blend pants I also picked up at BR. They are a little too short but I am planning to let out the bottom hem allowance, and if I wear them as I have shown tucked into boots (slouchy skinny style) it does not matter. These were final sale so I am keeping them.
