Thanks Deborah and Zapotee -- seems like I need to be on the lookout for light-colored oxfords for dresses!

Do you think would be OK with pants too, given my darker hair? This is all very confusing for some reason

I think the lighter color might work better with dresses as well but I have not yet adjusted to the look.

I also thought the taupe might be a better choice. The black just looks very heavy and I am struggling to see them really working with dresses. Fan for pants though.

missvee -- hm, I see what you mean by the heaviness. but yeah, they'll go good with pants :)

Diana - I also like the juxtaposition! Fun to play with contrasts.

Kim - I wanted to order the taupe version during the sale, but they were out of my size. I see they are back though -- wondering if I could exchange the black for the taupe at the sale price. I agree with you and Diana that color would work better with dresses. And thanks for the Zappos suggestions!

I'm having the same dilemma... realizing I dont' have much in the way of non-boot closed flat shoes.
My personal opinion is that if you're wanting an oxford to wear with a variety of dresses you might do better with a lighter color. Did you consider the taupe version of that one?

I like them! Outfit #1 is fab, really dramatic and bold! The shoes look a little dark for the dress in #2, although I do think this dress would work with oxfords (maybe just a slightly lighter color shoe).

I wear my flat oxfords how other people would wear ballet flats. With secret socks under skirts/dresses and pants. With tights. I also wear mine with frilly ankle socks but I think that is an acquired taste. As per Angie's blog this morning, I like the juxtaposition of the slightly more manly shoe with more feminine elements.

I really like the outfit in pic 1 - it's interesting and arty yet minimal. I'm not so sure about the shoes with the dress in pic 2 . They seem a bit heavy. I love the shoes and think they will look amazing with tights and skirts, and with jeans and pants as you say.

So I only own one pair of flats (burgundy slipper loafers, not including my Converse) and am finding I need non-boot flat alternatives because my knees sometimes complain about heels.

I've never worn oxfords before, but thought the Naya ones Angie put on the NAS pick list looked cute. I like the quirky details - thick shoelaces, snakeskin heel cap. But I dont know how to style them (except for the obvious pants).

Anyhow, do you think they work in these outfits? Other suggestions for flats (not ballet style though)?

Thanks for your help!
