I'm returning the cognac version of this same jacket for these reasons. It looked great when I tried on over a column of color navy with a narrow denim pencil skirt, but just didn't work as well with jeans -- a little too wide, and also though I thought it technically hit alright with high waist jeans and a more cropped top, it wasn't super flattering.

You're looking good

Aw, shucks. I'll have to keep looking actively now to avoid panic later; the pre-YLF (so about five years old) black lambskin is starting to show significant wear. I'm guessing its CPW is around $0.35.

I'm late to help here, but the color is nice. Good luck with your search. Hopefully you will find something you like at a reasonable price. It doesn't sound like you need to rush because you can still make use of the black moto. I love your wardrobe color palette. Everything pulls together nicely.

That makes sense, Cerinda. I quite like it in 6 but it sounds like it's not the perfect one for now. Your black jacket looks great, by the way.

Thank you so much!! I can usually recognize when an item is off, but I really need help to understand why. Forum wisdom to the rescue, once again.

So the hunt continues. I emphatically do not want a jacket that fails to play well with the rest of my wardrobe or takes a lot of energy to style. I'll be looking for a softer leather, more fitted cut, and maybe (just maybe) a shorter length to fuel the shift to wider trouser silhouettes.

I vote return, as glorious as the colour is. I much prefer the fits and silhouettes of your older moto jackets - which are a lot more versatile for your style. The boxy blue moto looks good with the culottes in #6, but it's not cut well for the ways you like to layer it over your tops and jeans.

I like it in #6 but overall think the fit is off, I much prefer the fit of the sleeves (for example) of your current black moto in #7. Somehow this new navy jacket, as much as I love the color, looks big on you as well as a bit short. Years ago I got a boxy short leather jacket with similar big sleeves, and it is a complete orphan. Whereas your current light colored jacket is roomy looking, but also long. So it's got that boyfriend vibe. There's something about short and boxy that is hard, all of my things with this cut have ended up being orphans (hello boxy cropped tees which I have like 6 of from 2 years ago and never wear).

I think Suzanne's comment about the straight across the bottom cut is interesting. I think that might be a factor in why the jacket looks, to my eye in some pictures, like a true biker jacket, rather than more current and stylish variation. I do love it in #6 and think it looks most intentional there. Are those proportions you were frequently? Ideally a leather jacket outlasts trends.

It's a pretty color for you. I agree with Traci that it might be good with dresses. Especially if you want a little tough juxtaposition with a feminine dress.

I don't have anything Michael Kors. He puts his name or his initials in giant letters on handbags and it's very off putting for me.

My first thought was that it may be too short, but in the pic with the wide keg cropped pants I really love it.

Is this a jacket you'd ever wear over dresses? I think this is perfect length for that. I'm opposite of the others in that the length bothers me less with the tunic, but more with the tucked in top and lighter bottoms.

Ftr, my track record on proportions isn't great, so feel free to throw my opinion out if it doesn't jive with yours.

Hi Cerinda. My first thought was the same as delurked's--the color is lovely, but I do think it reads short on you, and one reason is that it's cut so straight across. Your other jackets I think look more fab because in addition to more length, they offer those nice angles and blend well within your outfits.

I have had one good experience with this brand for a leather jacket. I love the color, but personally find this jacket slightly short through the torso - especially on the tunics. Curious if others believe that too, as it's a particular issue I have for myself that may be adding to my bias.

Love the burgundy too.

Standing on line to return a pair of jeans at the Rack yesterday, I noticed a rack of leather motos. There was one single navy moto (Yo, Sharan!), and it was in my size! I didn’t even take it into the dressing room: did a quick fit check standing there among the lunchtime crowd and brought it home.

What you think about the fit? It zips fully and comfortably over a heavy sweater (though I seldom do that). Have you any brand experience with leather from Michael Michael Kors (no find, sorry)?

Can you see it working with medium to dark blues and brown accents? with medium to dark blues, greys, and black? with mid-tone neutrals for spring?

Before and After. #1 WIW to an early morning doctor’s
appointment (just keeping it real, here). #2 Sub navy moto for asymmetric grey. Shorter jacket reveals jeans’ fit issues; potentially too much contrast.

#3 With crops (hems folded, waiting for a moment to hack),
burgundy tee, boots. You can see the “vintage-style twisting” in action, but it doesn’t bother me (ok, the hem does
bother me; got to find time).

#4 Styled as my uniform: leather jacket, straight-leg denim
and tee, bootie. Hits my sweet spot: low-contrast, color-mixing that offers high-contrast with pale blonde/white hair and fair skin. These jeans need hemming, too.

#5 Sub heavy burgundy sweater for tee. Jacket looks especially bulky here, hoping it will soften with wear. Thoughts?

#6 With black crop wide-legs and tee. High happiness factor.

#7 Just for comparison: current black moto, black denim straight-legs, fine-gauge burgundy sweater (from an earlier post). My black leather jacket is actually moto lite: lambskin; has tonal hardware and knit panels on the under side of the sleeves; falls back on the body; and hits below the waist. This navy one is a heavier, stiffer leather; has epaulettes, shoulder gussets, waist straps, and silver zips; and is 2” shorter in the back (but not in front). They feel very different on: do you get a different vibe? The black is starting to show some wear, so perhaps duplicating now (and not waiting until I panic) is a good idea?

(Sorry for the tags and crummy lighting. It is navy, honest.)

Advice on keep/return, please. All input and styling suggestions welcome.
