I got this sandal in the black and I've already worn it numerous time. It is very soft and the heel height is very wearable.

Firecracker, FYI there were multiple reviewers on the Abby sandal saying that the black colorway stained their feet

I'm pretty fond of the silver metallic color anyway--it sadly doesn't come in the Nakita style--so no big loss.

Hmm, it doesn't seem to be available in my size in any color at a nearby Nordstrom, and the silver metallic is also sold out at Zappos... I think I'll just order them from Nordstrom online now, to be sure that I have the chance to compare. I do love the comfort level of Munro, even if the styles are hit or miss.

Firecracker - I think I might have tried the Abby style before, but I'm not certain. It didn't really cross my radar this time around because I have a narrow heel and narrow instep so almost all velcro-closure shoes don't work for me (I need to pull the velcro tighter than it's designed to go).

I will be stopping by Nordstrom soon to return the Jillie lace-up sandals though--and hanging on to the black Nakita sandals to ponder more--so I'll keep an eye out for the Abby to try on.

If it helps, as an older person, I would wear the silvery ones but not the black. I agree with Firecracker that you need yo try building outfits around these from your closet, then decide. You may want to really try black flat sandals first.

First, both of these are not dainty enough for my personal taste. That out of the way, looking back at your Trina Turk raincoat post, I do think the black ones would be great with your hair. It's not always that warm in the SF Bay Area, is it? (My 26 y old daughter travels there a lot, she has a boyfriend there and they are doing long distance NZ to SF! ) So for much of the summer I don't think the black ones would look too heavy. I also think the black ones are more what a young cool software engineer would wear, somehow, than the others. I suspect I could be projecting there though, as I don't actually know any young, cool software engineers!

Thank you everyone for the thoughtful advice and input!

@Firecracker: I’m sad that the style of the black sandal doesn’t come in “silver metallic,” which is the color of the lace-up pair. I tried the pewter-brown color way at Nordstrom but it definitely reads as brown against my skintone and my wardrobe color palette is not very brown-friendly. Good idea on trying both pairs with potential outfits, although I prefer most of my shoes to “go” with most of my clothing.

@Sterling: I agree that the lighter silver color is more summer-appropriate… I am in the SF Bay Area, where summer nights are cool and the days never get above 90F. I wouldn’t say that black is as commonplace as in NYC, for instance, but I would wear a more strappy black sandal without hesitation.

@Diana: Oh, now that you’ve mentioned it I can see what you mean about the small toe cut out! Darn my tiny feet. However, both of these sandals feel like walking on clouds and I have fussy feet (in addition to small size + slightly narrow), so the toe cut out might be a detail I’ll have to sacrifice.

@Becky: I wear a lot of jewel tones year-round, as well as “true” colors like red and a very few pastels (mint and blush). An orange-coral is about as bright as I get. My coloring is pretty high-contrast (not pictured here but my hair and skin tone are a lot like Diana’s). I have a few pieces like a white skirt that I wouldn’t wear with the black bootie-sandals, but I’m fine wearing those with flat metallic sandals that I already own.

@Eliza: I didn’t mention it in my OP because it wasn’t apparent to me in the photos, but apparently I wasn’t looking closely enough! The silver-only photos actually show me wearing a size 5 in the lace-up sandals, which was too snug. I reordered size 5.5 which is much more comfortable.

Having parsed everyone’s feedback, I’m leaning towards the black pair… at least keeping them around and maybe doing another round of ordering. I have actually been looking for a pair of flat black sandals, to supplement my current metallic flat sandals for darker-toned summer outfits—which I think means that a black summer heel would be versatile. And these heels are comfy enough that I might not need another pair of flat black sandals, after all.

Time also to confess that my “older” bias was applied more towards the silver pair than the black pair. Although I really like the ghillie trend, somehow these seemed more “comfort” than trendy… wasn’t sure if I was just imagining things, but smittie and others have pointed out the same issue.

Get the need for comfortable sandals with a two inch heel, as well as the fears about how Munro's read. I'm lots of decades older and have walked away from some comfortable Munro's that just weren't quite "today" enough for me. The Munro's i do own have worn well and been good quality.

Not sure about the lace up pair, largely because it is hard to tell if your toes can be where they want or need to be in them. May just be the photos, but one toe looks like it is hanging off the edge. You'll know if it really is. I also see what Diana is saying about the size/shape of the toe cut outs. I like the streamlined look of the black ones otherwise.

It takes me a lot of time to find the right shoes as have comfort issues, low volume feet, and injuries have to be accommodated. That makes me super picky, yet if I am comfortable and the style is a bit above passable, there are times when fit and need for a certain function drive the bus. Sounds like you are happy with either pair and rejected a lot of other pairs. That may help you decide.

Ok so this is going to sound a little nitpicky but I don't like either because of the shape of the toe cut out. Something about that rounded shape, especially on the lighter pair, makes them look "comfort" to me. Weirdly I think your feet being small makes the effect more obvious. (I know exactly what you mean about Munro shoes looking "older" lol).

Given that this is for Summer, I prefer the lighter, silvery pair. The black just look too heavy to me, but where do you live? Perhaps a black in your area of the world would fit in perfectly?

I don't think lace up would date. Not for summer wear.

They are quite different, so it's hard to choose one over the other. FWIW, I have a similar concern about Munro styles, and I chose the black one you're considering (I got it in the "pewter" color, which is more a metallic soft brown color), and I like them a lot. I also like the lace-up style and would have considered getting it, except I already have two pairs of lace-up sandals! I like the nearly nude look of the lace-ups on you, and I like the edgy look of a black bootie for summer.
I think you could try them both on with the outfits you're considering wearing them with, to help decide. I don't think either one will date quickly.

I am getting a head start this year on summer shopping, finally. After trying a slew of less expensive options, of course I've narrowed it down to two pairs of Munro heeled sandals Due to the price point, I can only keep one pair even though these are very different from each other. And I'm seriously lacking in 2" heeled sandals so assume that they would both fill a wardrobe hole.

My concerns:
1) Is the black pair too heavy for summer?
2) Is the lace-up pair too trendy to be worn for several years?

FYI: Our summers are dry and consistently warm but not hot (by my East Coast standards). I have black hair so I'm OK with owning lots of black footwear. And I'm still in my mid-twenties, so I sometimes feel like Munro shoes read as "older" than what my social circle wears, if that makes sense?

Help me choose, please!
