Bianca, it's kind of funny for me. I don't actually like asking for help, because I'm not a very chatty person and because having someone else's time involved makes me feel pressured to make decisions more quickly. On the other hand, I often end up with better things when I do, so I may have to bite the bullet more often.

Will have to give Ann Taylor a try next time I want help finding something specific!

I'm with you Aubergine on taking suggestions from sales people. That is one of the reason why I love Ann Taylor. When I need something new for a specific reason, I tell them and they put together different outfits for me and I leave the store with the perfect outfit.

I see this thread came back, and there's more sympathy on the buttons! I ended up ordering these because I really liked the basic shape of the buttons, and these were the first ones I found that were similar in the right size. Will update on how the replacement goes. It turns out we're getting a cold snap over the weekend, so I may have to give it a few wears with the original buttons (and with too-long sleeves) just out of necessity. We don't usually dip into the 40s during the day until well into November, but apparently we've got that coming up!

The comments on how the tweed coat looks too small are really making me realize something. The tweed coat was from Macy's, where I looked around on my own. And the peacoat (cute, well-fitting, and a style I'd all but given up on!) was from Nordstrom, where I ended up taking suggestions from a salesperson. So this is really Exhibit A for why I should ask for help more often while shopping.

I too think the peacoat looks great. And I know what you mean about the Michael Kors buttons. I have a trench of his I bought and it's just got logos and gold little do-dads here and there that were just annoying and frankly not my style. They got changed out

Pea coat is great and button changing is such an easy and cheap fix! I think the other coat is a nice coat, but sizing up you will lose the shape on the shoulders. So you have made the right decision....you will look very stylish!

Firecracker, these buttons are kind of mid-range shiny, I think. A little more shiny than brushed gold, but not super-bright. I'm adding a (slightly blurry) close-up picture of one of the buttons so it's easier to see.

Agree with you and Shevia that Kors does seem kind of heavy on the branding. It's kind of interesting how fluid and arbitrary that line is for me. If these buttons were black like the ones on your coat, I wouldn't care at all. If there were only a few of them, I wouldn't care at all. But somehow a bunch of buttons in a contrasting color that makes them a prominent design element puts it at the edge. (And actually the zipper pulls on this coat are logo-ed too, but that's subtle enough that I don't mind. Go figure.)

Sveta, I really like how the buttons look. It's only the logo that I'm being picky about.

Thanks, bj!

Thanks, Carter! It's amazing what kinds of oddly specific sites Google turns up!

Longer coat is too small, have you tried a size up?
Peacoat looks good. As for the buttons is it logo which bothers you or their size and color? I don't think the logo is that prominent so if you are ok with the color and size of them then keep.

Definitely the peacoat. I noticed the buttons too, but not for the logo but the color. I would not swap them just for the logo, although I do think MK does tend to over logo things.

I love the peacoat on you. It will be a good complement to a longer coat in a heavier wool--you'll be set for the light, short wool-coat weather and colder wool-coat weather.
I'm also annoyed by logo buttons, and it's something that specifically turns me off a lot of Michael Kors clothes. But I actually don't find these that bad--they look like brushed gold rather than super shiny ones, and if that's the case, I think they might look subtler than others I've seen. I like the interesting shape of the button. Also, I have a Michael Kors coat with black logo buttons, and I swear I didn't notice the logo until I had worn the coat several times! (I certainly did not bother to change those.)

I think I'm settled on keeping the peacoat now. Woohoo!

Making sure the peacoat fits with thick layers is a smart suggestion! I have it on with a mid-weight sweatshirt in the pics and have tried it on with some of my oversized cardigans, but I'll try it with a thick, chunky sweater just to make sure it's roomy enough for anything I might want to wear under it.

Angie and bj, I think you may be right that the peacoat is a little snug in the back. I did try the next size up in store, and it just looked kind of big all over. It's true that the long length of that one might be more versatile, but I have a longer trench and a longer cranberry red wool coat (and am looking for a longer one for the replacement winter-weight wool coat), so I think the versatility trade-off in having one shorter coat is worth it for the variety in silhouette.

Suz, I actually had peacoats I loved in high school and college, but wrote off the style for half-baked flattery reasons in recent years even though I still liked it. So I'm really glad the saleswoman suggested this one!

About the buttons, I think the logos are bugging me, so I may order replacement buttons just to have the option. If I don't want the hassle, I can always return them. I'm not a no-logos-ever person, but I think the high visibility of the buttons here makes the brandedness at the edge of my comfort level. Bj, I like the idea of rose gold buttons, but the zippers on the pockets are gold, so I have a feeling I should probably go with gold so all the accents match.

have you tried sizing up in the long coat? if it fit properly in the back, it may be more versatile than the shorter pea. however, i do like the peacoat on you the way you have worn it here with the layers. keep the buttons, too much of a hassle. live with it for a while. if it still bugs you, then go ahead and swap them out. have you thought about a rose gold button if you can source it?

The peacoat is a good fit if you're wearing the right layers underneath. Make sure you are before you commit.

The longer coat is ill-fitting at the back - too snug.

Buttons are easy to swap out - although a hassle to find. I would leave them as is. Chances are high you'll forget about the logo-ed buttons very soon.

If it were me, I would switch the buttons for logo-free gold buttons. Shouldn't they be paying you to advertise their brand? (Sorry, overbranding is one of my pet peeves).

Thanks, everyone! I always like when other YLFers back up my instincts!

Quietgirl, I think you might be on to something with the bold buttons making a strong vertical line. Maybe that's part of what's working for me with this one. In terms of the effort to replace the buttons, I'd probably end up having a seamstress do it, since I'd want to shorten the sleeves anyway and I'm not sure I trust my sewing ability enough to put them all on securely.

E, glad you'd be thinking the same way re: the buttons!

Retailgirl, you may be right. It may be one of those things that I can't get out of my head now that I've noticed it, though.

The pea coat is more flattering. As far as the buttons go, I don't think the logos are as in your face as you think they are. If you are going to change them for other gold buttons, I don't think there's that much difference.

It is a pain to switch buttons but I did With my jcrew blazer last fall. The buttons were gold ( I prefer silver). I changed them to black so the blazer would go with gold or silver jewelry.

That said, I do like the bold buttons as they give a vertical line to draw the eye!

I feel kind of bad that all I seem to post anymore is K/Rs, but nevertheless here we go.

I'm looking to replace a few coats for this year. I'm also looking for a thicker wool coat, but first up are options for a new mid-weight wool coat, since it's getting up on the time when I'll need one of those.

I went shopping the other week and found two options I liked enough to come home as possibilities.

First up (#1-2) is a black peacoat. I never even would've tried this on, since it's not a petite and since double-breasted styles generally aren't the most flattering on me, but the saleswoman suggested it and I think it actually works. (Bonus: The picture shows one of my first attempts to wear rolled-up jeans. Kind of stumpifying, but not awful, I think.)

Second (#3-4) is a tweed swing coat. I liked this in the store but, the more I look at it, the more I think the peacoat is the better choice. I think it's more flattering, especially from the back thanks to the peplum/ruffle detail, and the shorter length makes it more different for me, since most of my coats are longer. Thoughts?

And for the button question: The peacoat's buttons all have the Michael Kors logo on them. Which isn't the type of thing that normally bugs me, but, since the buttons are pretty prominent, especially in the gold, and there's so many of them, it's a little overly logo-ed for my taste. Would switching out the buttons if I keep this coat just be silly and overthink-y? I'd probably stay with gold, since I like how it stands out, and go for either something as close to the original as I can find or something a little more distinctive like these or these.

Anyway, thanks for looking and all feedback is welcome!
