Just seeing this your post, so my comments are for any future deals you can't pass up. I know all about this. When this happens, if I can't decide whether to return it, I try to make the dress work for me.
Here's an idea of what I mean:
The style of this dress appears to be more FULL than fitted, noting from how the bottom half falls. I think it looks really good on you as is, and does fit from what I can see. You can tell by the shoulders and top half, they're not sagging or falling down as if too big. The bottom half has a more flowing look, judging by the fabric, this is how it should be. Perhaps wearing a broader belt would make the dress a little more comfortable and give it a different look. I thought you rocked this dress in any event!

Thanks for all the feedback! i did end up returning it. I would have tried an XS but couldn't find one. This was close, but not quite right!

I think that it looks a little overwhelming, like there is just too much fabric. I don't think it looks bad, but I think that you could find something better. I would try to find the XS, since it sounds like you really love it, but I would be prepared to return it if it doesn't make you happy right off the bat.

I think that maxi dresses are really tricky to get right. You want a streamlined fit, neither too bodycon nor too loose.

It is potentially overwhelming but I like the relaxed vibe - I see the appeal. I'd like to see it with your hair up and maybe some big hoop earrings? A floppy hat, 70s style? Or a straw
Fedora? I think maxis look best when there is something to draw the eye up and balance the look.

I really like the black and grey, and I like the stripes and the t shirt style but there's just too much of it, too much fabric, too much bold print. I would also rather it was narrow enough so you wouldn't feel like you have to belt it. Good idea, but you are way too pretty for this particular version.

Hmmm, I always fret when I can't try multiple sizes, but I wonder if the XS is a lot smaller, you would lose the drapey relaxed look. The top may be a scooch wide in the sense that it comes all the way out to your arm, but again, due to the relaxed fit I could kind of go with that.
Is this something that looks a little different when you're moving? I find sometimes I can tell that, a tighter fit would pull with movement, vs if really too loose it gets worse with movement, too sloppy. Is the skirt just right or have too much gather and you think it needs sizing down too? Would it shrink a teeny bit after washing? Does the price and fit on balance provide a useful wardrobe item, and something you would wear a lot now but wouldn't really spend much time shopping for another version.

I think the top half looks too big - the blouson at the waist is fine, but the shoulders look too wide.

It's not too long and the skirt part looks like it fits well. The top looks like it might be too big, though.

I don't think it looks too huge at all. I think it is meant to have that drapey look. I like it, I think it will be comfortable and versatile.

I picked up this dress from Costco, hence no chance to try it on. For $10 I was willing to take the risk. I bought a small....thinking I might need a medium. The small is Big though. I never would dream to try an XS and not sure they have one in stock. Anyway, it is I think too big. I love the print and material is so comfortable and lightweight. I love that it calls for a normal bra, doesn't cling, and would work for fall with a cardi. I like that it's black and sort of a grey which is better for my coloring than a bright white. But really, is it too huge on me? Should I try to hunt up an xs or just return and forget it? Thanks!!!
