I absolutely prefer the midi. Like it was mentioned before, something is "off" aboutt he shorter style, and I think it is the seam running down the middle. I do not think the skater style is at all bad on you; it actually looks great and you have fabulous legs. But this particular skirt doesn't look like great quality. I would keep the midi and find a different skater skirt.

Thank you Suzanne and Rabbit! I think I am pretty limited for footwear options with the midi, since I prefer flats. I was considering starting another thread for it. The skater I know would work with all my flats (oxfords/sneakers). And I would love to play with that option.

Thinking again now! May be I should exchange the skater for a different style of skater or just turn it so that the mid seam goes to the side?

I definitely prefer the midi in every photo, like kerry, the seam down the middle of the skater skirt, (at least in the light of the photos, it might not be noticeable in RL) distracts me a little. The midi is a gorgeous texture and cut it looks like, and makes your legs look longer in each picture next to the skater skirt to my eyes (it might be different if you were wearing black tights). It can be very elegant, but works with the casual fun tees too. I like the skater skirt too, it's a nice shape, especially if there was a way to flatten the front seam a little.

I agree with Suzanne that it's also worth looking at them both with flats on, maybe a closed top shoe for contrast.

I agree with keeping the midi. Just to add a new dimension to the conversation. I think your shoes matter regarding the skirt choice. You wore the same shoes in every photo and the midi looked fantastic. Those same outfits with different shoes would make the shorter version much more appealing, I think. Every time I've bought 2 of something in slightly different lengths or versions, I've ended up only wearing one of them a lot. Somehow I talked myself into the alternative because I thought it should be part of my wardrobe or lifestyle rather than whether it felt right or actually "spoke" to me. You know called my name and begged me to wear it. If you want a second skirt, perhaps the pencil skirt is a better option rather than a different length?

Suz - we must have cross posted. I could surely wear the skirt as evening wear. Evenings here, indoors are usually arctic due to the AC. And like you observed, since its a flared skirt, its breezy as well. So wear wise I think it would work well.

Kerry - the midseam didn't look so weird IRL. But after seeing it in pictures, I think I am not liking it either.

Great observations all! Thank you again. For now, I have decided to exchange the skater.....may be for slip on sneakers?

I love these both, and your styling is beautiful! Both lengths look fresh and super-cool. I see the midi as fall/winter, and the shorter one as ideal for spring, and maybe summer if it isn't too hot and humid where you are.

I think both are gorgeous for work, or for going out, or for every day when you want a little lift

Thank you all for such detailed responses. I think I am leaning towards keeping the midi and exchanging the skater for something else. Skaters are not hard to find, so I am sure I could exchange them for something different.

I vote keep the midi and return the skater for a pencil skirt. That way you are more flexible with the silhouette and the midi will be more practical for everyday life. Or just keep the midi if you don't want to get two faux leather skirts.

Fab, fun skirts!! I say the midi wins all the way, but my eye has wholly adjusted to that look. And it appears to be higher quality. But for a fun MOTG look with flat sandals or sneakers, the skater skirt would be super fun as well.

Do consider the amount of wear faux leather might or might not get in your climate. Where I live it has limited wearabililty -- not warm enough in winter, too hot in summer. But, what's great about it, is you can wear it without fear. If your kids smear their jam-covered or ice cream covered hands on it, no problem!! Plus, in a wide skirt like this the air has room to circulate so the overheating aspect might not be quite as acute.

Neel - I really like them both. One is the clubbing, fun skirt and the other is the formal, grown up elegant version. The midi, gosh you could almost take that black tie. Polished, refined, uber elegant. The skater skirt is the "girls just want to have fun version!! What a difference a few inches make. All great styling. So versatile!!

Wow! These are all so great! I am very surprised, becuae it has taken my eye a long time to adjust to midi length skirts, but I prefer the midi in every photo except #5. (I thought that the preportions were better with the shorter skirt on that one.) My vote would be to keep the midi and take the shorter skirt back and exchange for the pencil skirt. I think that having a totally different silhouette in the same fabric would give you even more looks. Don't get me wrong, it's a total win to keep both of these - they both look amazing on you! That is just my two cents... :-)

Also, you did an amazing job styling and posing so that we could truly compare!!

so much fun to see both styled exactly the same way! if you only keep one, i'm voting for the midi. to me, it worked better with all the options, plus imo it seems more modern and current. but if you have room for both, i could see both working with your style.

Every top you've chosen to go with both of these skirts looks fantastic! The proportions are great and very flattering. After looking at the first picture, I thought it was a tie and then after looking at the rest, I definitely prefer the midi. It looks flawless in each look. I think what's throwing me off about the skater is not the length but the seam running down the front.

Thank you all! So, so far its either the midi or keep both. Hmmmmm ....

Janet - Great eye. The midi has a bit of shine too. While the skater looks matte to me.

Unfrumped - that's a good idea. My life revolves around kids. So a longer skirt instantly becomes a part of my MOTG capsule. The shorter skirt I am sure would turn out to be the special occasions skirt and get lesser wear.

I would definitely apply the " what is my real lifestyle" test. Keep both if you have a lot if times to use both. Consider keeping only one if, even though inexpensive, you think one will languish, and use the $$ to fill another wardrobe hole or upgrade. I would especially think " wear now"..

So, I found to my eye that, depending on what it was styled with, I either liked the longer length midi or the skater better (as opposed to gravitating towards one or the other consistently with each outfit). In some outfits I thought the skater looked much better and in others I thought the midi looked way better.

So, based on that and the fact that you're saying they were both inexpensive, I'd personally opt to just keep them both.

I agree with FL:) The shorter version is perhaps a littlle more trendy and fun whereas the midi is just so elegant but modern in your stylings. If it's keep one only, I would choose the midi, but it you can keep both then why not. They both create a different vibe and I think you will really enjoy them.

What an absolute treat! I love the way you have styled these skirts!

Great buys! I would keep both.....!!

I see them as having different functions. The shorter skirt is more fun and I would wear it daily and possibly to work. The midi is more conservative and has a more formal feel. I would wear this to work, dinner, anywhere I wanted to be a bit more 'dressed'. I love the midi paired with the green/black/white horizontal collared shirt! (I think I'm having a 1950's moment......)

Faux of course ..... I am a bit of a confused mess right now! I bought an H&M faux leather skater skirt (just above the knee) two days back. I love it. And then I saw this *highly elusive* midi skirt in faux leather in one of our local online shops. And I couldn't resist buying that too. Of course I love that too. Now I am stuck and I need help!

Although technically both the skirts are almost exactly the same except for the length, I could keep both if the silhouettes look different (They are not pricey). Or I could return the shorter skirt and go for a pencil skirt in faux leather (H&M had loads of those as well). Both the stores offer return credit and not cash back.

I have styled each skirt with the same tops and posted them side by side. The shoes are constant in all the outfits, and I chose the most flattering shoe style (heels and dressy). I could switch up the shoes, but if the skirts don't work with heels, they probably wont work with flats anyway. So here it goes:

1) With fluid shirt and sweater
2) With oversized tee
3) With fluid top
4) With lace top
5) With denim shirt
6) With fitted sweater
7) With a shell top
8) Column of colour and suit jacket
9) Column of colour and bomber
10) With fluid full sleeved top
11) With a short tank
12) For fun - a cropped tank which I use as lounge wear. I still haven't found my perfect cropped top. If this works, I would hunt harder!

I have tried to create the most flattering silhouettes. If these don't work, I am not sure what would!

My questions/thoughts are:

1) Which is the most flattering length on me?
2) Do you think I should keep both? Is it sensible? Switching the skater skirt for a faux leather pencil skirt is an option. Though I love the skater too. And I don't have too many skaters either. But pencil skirts is another story! But the versatility of a pencil skirt cannot be debated either.
3) I have been looking out for a midi for quite some time. And a midi which is edgy by itself is hard to come by!
4) I can wear this midi both low waisted and high waisted (stretchy). It has belt loops too, although I am not very big on belts.

Now this is a really hard decision for me. I would appreciate all and any kind of help! Thanks for having a look and commenting!!
