Rae, may I say that you are a brilliant remixer!!! Whoa. I think this dress looks lovely on your gorgeous body.....and you aren't in banking anymore after today, yes? So, if you will get lots of wear and nothing else trumps it on your wants/needs list, then KEEP.

The cami saves it, in my opinion. You were right that it blended so well with your skin tone that it created a rather odd effect. And being the prude I am, I always prefer to see a cami under any kind of lower neckline.

I still really, really love that print, and I think that it helps to debombshell the dress to some extent.

I love this on you, Rae. But I would do as others have suggested and see if there is one with a slightly different pattern placement. That would give you the option of wearing it more comfortably "as is" sometimes, which in your climate might be really helpful. You definitely have the gorgeous figure to carry this off and it looks SUPER versatile. Love your stylings.

I am not against bodycon as a rule - I like tailored stuff! And of course I have the B44 dress. But something about the close fit *with* the skin tones really does help make it look painted on. I do a double-take myself, so I'm sure others would, too.

Una, I think I may be back with you looking for the perfect galaxy/graphic/landscape prints...

Chiming in late (it's ealy morning here!) to say I echo Janet wholeheartedly - youth and beauty are on your side with this style! I wish I'd realized how good I looked 15 years ago and worn more bodycon styles when I could have pulled them off!

At the same time, being a similar skin tone, I would have the concern you do about the pattern on top. It looks a bit like those trompe l'oeil painted-on swimsuits from the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue (which, as a side note, are really artfully done and amazing as art). I'm not sure if it's that way IRL too. Do you think people might do a double take, like with skin-tone pants?

I didn't realize you avoided bodycon styles altogether, since a lot of your dresses are fitted in an appropriate way. Does bodycon mean too tight to be decent, or just fitted in a sexy manner?

It's a very intense dress! I like it best with the denim jacket. The pattern placement doesn't bother me, but I would think you would have to *love* something like this to keep it, or it could become an orphan lickety split.

Where did you order it from? Can you call customer service and explain the pattern placement issue to see if they can send you another one? I hate to see you give up on this dress. I meant to add before that I find the longer length also helps offset any bodycon issues -- it just looks fitted, and not too young or clubby. I see it a lot like the Bailey 44 tiered dress.

Thank you ALL for your wonderful insights. I had pretty strong emotional reactions to the print the fact that it fit SO well, so it was great to get some views from a step back.

I decided I am just too bothered by the pattern placement, and since there are no free exchanges and no brick & mortar stores, I can't risk getting a new one and having the same issue. Or what if it looks painted on in a worse place?? Back it shall go!

I think it would be great and very versatile - if the pattern matched the catalog with the deep red tones up by the neck. I would also try another of the same t see if the pattern is better - I'd be sure to mention this when I order it (just in case there is any control over which item ships). That said, you have to love the way you feel in it first, so if you think it's too body con for you, then I'd pass.

Wow Rae - this dress looks amazing on you! The fit is fantastic and not too body con IMHO. The colours are beautiful and I don't find anything soul sucking about it. I love every single way you've styled here (that took a lot of time and energy I bet?!). I also really like the length on you - not too short. If it were me, I'd be keeping it.

I love it. I think it looks great on you, and the layering helps mitigate the bodycon aspect and the fleshtone issue when you want to wear it in a more professional setting. But, I'd like to point out that you are young and gorgeous and should celebrate the bodycon look *if* you're comfortable in it! (Trust me, as I've gotten older, I've wondered why I didn't embrace my youthful shape more, back when I had it!)

I think the print is pretty cool, Rae. The nude effect did not jump out at me in the pictures, but maybe it's more of an issue IRL.

I agree with Laura -- it might be a little va va voom for work, but with your layering skills I think it becomes work appropriate. (Wait -- aren't you moving into the style industry? Lots more flexibility there in terms of what's "appropriate.")

I like it a lot with the loose black top, the shirt layered underneath, and with the denim jacket. However, I'm not sure it's a keep. I see what you see with the nude-seeming neckline, and it's very odd to me how it looks like there is no neckline at all - I'm not sure I like the effect of how it looks literally painted on your body up top.

Plus I am just kind of over body-con in general... definitely for me and apparently more and more for others too.

I'm with Parsley--I love the dress and it looks like it would play well in your closet. I love how creative you are with layering and making it into a skirt. I would order a second one to see if the print placement is better so it doesn't look so nude around the bustline. I like it with the cami and I don't think it looks too bodycon, unless it isn't comfortable to wear.

I think the style is good on you, and the fit looks great- not too body-con as far as I'm concerned. But I see what you mean about the beige areas. I don't like the way the pattern is placed.

I looked again at the catalog picture, and the beige areas fall toward the lower part of the dress, which I think looks better. Is there any way you could order a second one and see if the pattern placement is better?

If it were more like this picture, I would give it a big Yay!

STUNNING! There is not a combination here I don't like Rae:). I think you have a lovely figure and the body con look works beautifully for you. I would be keeping this baby:)

I was a little bit bothered by the neckline lacking definition until I saw #8, and the cami COMPLETELY fixes that issue. It looks perfect that way (if you didn't want to do more obvious layering). Although it is body-con, the pattern prevents it from beig va-va-voom, KWIM? It takes the entire look up a notch, IMO. I love the way you have layered it, and it appears that it will coordinate well with your wardrobe. I vote keep!
