I think these boots are quite fab. Love the detail. If all else is ok, I would keep.

Mikky, how much did it cost you to put Vibrams on?

Definitely get the Vibram soles! Frye boots are exceedingly slippery, and the soles wear down unbelievably fast. (At least, mine do -- I got a pair of regular Paige Riding boots this past winter and within a month, I'd worn down about 3 mm off each heel and the bottoms looked like I'd gouged them with a knife. Plus, I almost wiped out a few times! The Vibram will prevent falling and protect the bottoms.)

Update! Here are some photos. The first one looks particularly bad, moreso than in real life; I think it's due to the downward angle of the photo. I think the other 3 photos are representative of the slouch.

These boots are so cute & look really good on you - great calf fit. I vote keep & you can wear socks to fill out the ankles if it bothers you. FWIW I have tiny ankles & have never found a pair of boots that are "snug" so just live with some slouch.

I have tiny ankles and always seem to have fit problems with pull on boots. I would say that it depends on whether the room in the ankle ruins the lines of the boot... if the ankle collapses at a strange and obvious angle, or if the shaft puckers. However, if the leather drapes nicely, it can look intentional and not be an issue. I can't see the ankle well in your pics, so this is theoretical.

I have had a lot of issues with the first rounds of wearing my Frye boots, but after they are broken in I had no difficulty getting them on. I don't know anything about the Vibram soles you asked about but it does sound like a good idea to me. They are awesome-looking boots! I hope you keep them.

I recently bought these gorgeous black Fryes from Amazon for under $150, which seems like a reasonable price for all-leather boots and a great price for Frye boots. The foot and calf fit well (if snugly, but leather will stretch) and they're very comfortable, but I'm not sure about the *visible* fit. Unfortunately I only have a night-time iPhone photo right now--I'll try to take more pictures tonight with a real camera.

PROS: price, quality, works with both bare legs and lightweight skinny jeans

CONS: They are a bit difficult to work on and off due to the snugness. More critically, I'm not sure about the slouchiness of the ankle--will try to get a better picture of this tonight--but I wanted to ask now what people think about pull-on boot fit. It obviously has to be wide enough at the ankle to fit the foot and instep, so the slouch just part of the style? The top part of the boot doesn't slouch at all. I envision dressing them down with jeans and up with dresses, especially on a rainy day walking across campus.

Finally, a tangential question: the leather soles are a bit slippery, especially on carpet and tile. I plan to wear these boots in inclement weather (not pouring rain, but perhaps mud and drizzle). Should I get a Vibram sole put on over the leather before wearing them out? How much does that sort of thing cost?
