The material is much softer and more forgiving. I think both Angie and Kari have them.<br /> As others said, I don't think the main issue is the gaping, I think you notice it more because they are a tad tall for you.<br /> You should be very picky with Fryes. I wear Frye Campus boots with bare legs and they do gape. However that is the look I am going for with them - very RATE - and they hit right at the widest part of my calf.</p> <p>You might try the Melissa lace-ups - the calf will be more adjustable due to the laces and the shaft might be slightly shorter.
