Thanks. I am leaning toward the smaller on the blouse and the bigger on the sweater, that is if I keep. I really liked them yesterday but today I'm having doubts.

Unfrumped, I agree, and the fabric hand makes such a difference too with looser items. It's hard enough to decide when you're able to try something on, but online it's pretty much a crapshoot.

I think the sweater for sure, size up. I am amazed at how intolerant my "eye" is now for too-ftted knitwear.
The woven, I'm not sure. I can't tell from the pics. If pulls over the bust at all, that would bother me. but if not, it looks like it could have an adequately fluid fit, just not oversized. Wovens require more precise fit, I think, meaning not tight, but have to fit correctly in more ways.

You've also identified a key issue--an item has to fit "right" even to look good fluid or over- sized, and that varies with the cut of the item. Some will not be right whether smaller or larger. That's what bugs me about online shopping now--I just can't tell from the photos whether "my size" is already factored into the roominess, or whether to size up, or if it's cut super-oversized, size down, or whether the whole cut of the garment will not work. In a real store I can go through the sizes quickly and usually tell, though sometimes have spent a loooong time in the dressing room.....

Oh, I should have mentioned that the top is 100% poly so shouldn't shrink. The sweater is a blend so might.

Hmm. The pink top doesn't look too snug in the hips in the smaller size. Lovely colour for you!

I would go with the larger of the sweaters for a more intentional look. I had that sweater in my finds, too, but probably won't buy it in the end. I didn't actually try it -- it would have to be ordered.

Oh it is close....

I would tend to choose the larger sweater as I think knitwear can shrink in length...

I am not sure with the top, the smaller size looks fine to me on the pics. I think it is a wonderful colour on you and a great shape.

Yesterday I needed to return some stuff to Nordstrom and ended up coming home with twice as much (whoops!). I was flummoxed in the fitting room about which size of these two tops to choose, if any, so I brought home both sizes of both so I could take pictures and throw myself on the mercy of YLF. In both cases, the smaller size is first.

1-3 show size L of the Halogen sleeveless top; 4-6 are XL. The L is what I'd normally choose through the upper chest; the fit through the hips/butt is snug but not pulling. The XL is looser and too big through the underarms, but that could be altered. Option 3 is of course that this shape doesn't flatter me anyway - is it too much of a tent over the boobs?

7-10 are size L of the sweater; 11-14 are the XL. As you might be able to see from the Finds picture, this sweater is supposed to be oversized and boxy in the torso. I almost think that the bigger size is better because it exaggerates that and makes it look more intentional...?

I'd love to know what you think. Sorry that the pics are not the best, the backlighting from the window makes everything else look dark no matter what settings I use.
