Thanks, petitesanonymous! I did keep the skirt! I never heard that about Loft jeans pockets. That doesn't sound good at all. The ones on these look okay as far as I know, but I'll keep an eye out if I try more Loft jeans in the future.

Had to go back and read this when I saw your new post. Haven't read the other comments, but I love the pleated skirt! I hope you kept it. Jeans look nice, but check the pockets. I've bought jeans at loft multiple times and ended up with crookedly, asymmetric pockets believe it or not. Jacket, as you know, is too small. Now I'm off to your new post....

Thanks, Shevia!

E, I think that's one nice thing about my height -- nothing ever hits me above where it's supposed to!

Beth Ann, thanks so much for weighing in! I'll definitely try keeping an eye out for a sheath dress with a better neckline. Now that I saw that this one generally fits me, I know more have got to be out there somewhere. I do have wrap dresses, so that might be worth a try with jackets. And I'm so glad to hear that I look taller! I hate hemming things too, which is kind of not ideal, considering. AT/Loft do seem to cut their skirts weirdly short even for my taste, sometimes.

You've already have great feedback and, even though you're not keeping everything, you have learned alot that will improve your shopping in the future.

The jeans are fab -- great choice, and the skirt is marvelous.

I love the idea of the tweed jacket with a button down top -- I like my tops to be soft or crisp, but not inbetween, if that makes any sense. The question is whether this particularly jacket is the best fit. The larger size looks good from the front, just make sure you have enough room in the arms (I know this issue all too well). You would also look great in ponte blazers (so comfy) and moto style jackets, which would be easier to fit in the back.

I'd love to see you in a sheath dress --- perhaps a lower or v neckline to open up your face. A wrap dress with simple styling would look fab under jackets, too.

I can't believe you are 4'10", you are doing terrifically well at finding clothes that work for your height, and you appear taller in photos, which means your proportions are working. I'm 5'6", which leads to some lazy habits in this area. I get upset when I have to hem something. Hee. I rarely shop AT or Loft because I think even their "regulars" are "petites," but I can see your making that work for you, and it makes me happy!

Oh good! And yes, you look gorgeous in that tapered skirt. I can't wait to see you style the pleated one too! And I hope the blazer works out for you: I always have the opposite problem of blazers whose waist hits on my ribcage, one of my widest parts, above my waist.

Thanks again to everyone! Such great comments.

I think I'm definitely going to return the dress. Now that I notice the strange top details, it just would annoy me if I kept it. Gracie, I think you're exactly right - if it were more strongly asymmetrical, it would be one thing, but the slight version here just looks like the fit is off.

I'll definitely take another look at the larger size blazer and make sure to check out the back view before deciding whether it comes home or not. Angie, I'm glad it at least looks to you like I'm on the right track. Laura, #8 is actually still the smaller size, just maybe from a better angle or something. And I'm glad I'm not the only one who sometimes passes on things just so they don't have worry about dry cleaning them! Donna, believe it or not, this is a petite! I'm 4'10", so everything hits me weirdly. BJ, the arms are actually pretty comfortable even in the smaller one, FWIW.

E, no problem at all -- different points of view are always appreciated! And I always feel a little self-conscious in more tapered skirts, so I'm flattered that maybe they sometimes look better than I think.

Liz, did you have to go into work today? That's just cruel!

Edit: Just saw Suz's thoughtful comments - thanks! It definitely might be fun to try the skirt with something more structured or more dramatic. Not that I have a lot of those, but I'll see what I can do. And thanks for the suggestion about Kellygirl's posts! I never really thought of myself as having an IT shape, but I think I may be so concerned about the width of my hips that I never really notice my shoulders either way.

What bj1111 says about the pleated skirt. I love it and think it is begging for a more structured sort of topper. I get the sense it will be really easy to wear.

I also agree about the jacket -- can't tell if the fit is right. It seems snug in the shoulders and arms, even in the bigger size. I don't know about you, but for me, if a jacket's snug in that area I tend not to wear it.

If this one doesn't work out, I am wondering if you might check with kellygirl's posts for examples of jackets that work well on an IT shape (that is also a bit shortwaisted.) Her overall body type is not the same but I think she faces similar fit issues in that area.

The jeans look terrific on you! Definitely wear them with pride!

I'm on the fence about the dress. I like it in theory but would like to be sure that all the asymmetry is intentional and not a flaw.

my fave is the outfit with the pleated skirt. i'm feeling a funkier or more structured topper. the sweater in #7 does not do the outfit justice.

i would need to see the sized up jacket from the back. the sleeves still look a touch tight. can you cross your arms over your chest in the jacket?

I echo everyone on loving the skirt and the jeans. I'm wondering if you have ever tried Petite blazers? I don't remember your height. Given that you could go shorter in the sleeve length, I'm thinking that the waist and hips might hit you in a better place. Unfortunately, some places only sell Petites online, but you can save S/H charges if you order from the store. Nordstrom has free S/H, but I don't recall seeing many tweedy Petite blazers other than a Topshop one that sold out quickly.

That skirt is killer! The jeans also look great. I'm very short-waisted as well. It makes jackets ridiculously hard to find, especially the past couple years with the super low stance. I'd pass on this one and keep looking. I could go either way on the dress...sorry that's not super helpful.

Those jeans are terrific on you! Another fan of the dress here, I see the intentional asymmetry of detail in the photo you posted – will your neck fit centered in the collar? are both cap sleeves the same length? If so, I vote keep, if not, maybe look for another dress in this style, it's very flattering. Sometimes when asymmetry is too subtle it looks like a mishap. And too bad the dotty button-down didn't work, it's so cute, and it looks good with the jeans.

Love the jeans on you! And the larger size jacket from the front. (Your back view, by the way, looks great, not something you need to apologise for!) You look great in 10, so no you're not delusional for liking it. I love the shape of the dress on you, but I'm not sure about that neckline. The skirt is fun, and looks like it would be a versatile basic, but when I scroll through the pictures, the tapering of the sheath bottom is a bit more traditionally flattering to my eye at that hem length (I think a poofier pleated skirt would look different, so maybe it's just the camera capturing one moment vs the movement of the skirt in real life looking different). The skirt looks good on you, don't get me wrong, just that the tapered bottom of the dress looks stunning vs good. :) Depends on how much that matters to you! (I debated whether to say that or not, because I don't want to take your joy out of the purchase, and it could just be the camera angle. But since you were asking for advice I thought I'd throw it out there! Also, I suspect if you were wearing tights or leggings, things would look different.)

What a lovely belt: can't wait to see you style it.

The jeans definitely look like winners. I wouldn't size up because they look like they would bag out unless you are going for a looser fit. These look nice for casual Friday as is.

The skirt is a winner too. I like the front view on the size up jacket but agree with Diana on the fit issue.

Is 8 the blazer one size up? It looks better, though a shot from the back could confirm that. I really like the styling and think it would be a great piece for you if it fits. (just looked it up and I'm so glad it's dry clean only so I'm not tempted to buy my own copy - I am such a sucker for knit blazers and black and white prints, so this is my kryptonite right here.)

Marmee and Diana, you may be onto something about the back being an issue even in the larger size jacket. Diana, thanks especially for being the voice of experience here. I love the term "butt shelf," by the way! Hopefully I'll get around to doing the exchange soon and can see whether the larger one works from the back or not.

Kkards, thanks so much! I was really surprised that I liked the skirt as much as I did too. I think I only tried it on in the first place because I kept thinking about how cozy a skirt that's basically a sweater would be in the cold.

I also looked more closely at the top of the dress and took a picture. I think what everyone's seeing is that there's gathers just on one side of the dress, so it looks crooked. I think the two sleeves/armholes might be slightly different shapes too. Hmmm. Not really points in the dress's favor there. There may be a reason I found it on the clearance rack.

Okay, time to go be productive for the rest of the afternoon. Thanks again for everyone's feedback!

love, love, love the pleated skirt! i think that is one of those things that you can see in a store and pass by it becuase on the hanger it doesn't look like much. but on you, its just FAB. and that belt really completes it.
i like the jeans, and the color of the sweater in #1 is great on you.
like the way the jacket in #11 fits.
the dress is ok, nothing special.

Jeans and skirt look great!

The smaller size jacket does look a little tight in the arms and shoulders to me. The larger one is better in that respect. However, I'm concerned about the bunching in back. In my experience, that generally means it's too long in the waist for us short waisted people, especially when you have a butt shelf to keep it from falling down all the way. I'm not sure a size up will fix this (and it might even be even longer in the body), although it's definitely worth a try. Maybe it'll be loose enough that it won't get caught up on the hip shelf.

I'm having a hard time seeing details on the dress. Is the neckline supposed to be asymmetric, or is it just sitting crooked in the photo? It does look like there might be some excess material around the neckline and shoulders.

The jeans look great, and the skirt fits perfectly. I'm not sure about the dress. I feel like a dress with a lower neckline would be more flattering. Regarding the jacket, I like the idea of it, and the bigger size is definitely better, but I'm wondering about how it looks in the back.

It looks like I might have to do an exchange on the jacket! I think I'd been originally wondering which size I should go with, then went with a quick decision because it was getting late and I remembered I wanted to stop by the grocery store too. Clearly not conditions for the most carefully thought-out choices!

I'm glad there's some thumbs-ups on the jeans and the skirt, especially the jeans since I feel like those are something I always have trouble judging for myself. Neel, you may be right on the shoulders of the dress. I think they're slightly asymmetrical for some reason, which seems a little strange. At any rate, I'd probably be wearing it mostly with something layered over it.

I like the fit of the jeans and the scrunching at the bottom. It looks like a great fit from what I can see. I also like it with the soft flowy blouse in the dressing room shot.

I also really love the skirt on you! Very cute and on trend!

Not a fan of the dress, the shoulders seem a bit off. And that could be a difficult thing to fix.

The jacket is lovely but a tad small. How do the sleeves feel? Could you size up and check? I am sure it would be a great addition to your wardrobe. The length seems to be perfect for dresses.

Overall great finds! :)

ETA - the sized up jacket does look better to my eyes! You might want to check the fit out again.

Thanks, Ceit and Jules!

Ceit, the jacket is open in #4. It actually doesn't have any closures. I remembered I have an in-store picture of the next size up in the jacket and will add it to the post. I'd thought it was too much fabric, but, like I said, I'm really bad at telling whether jackets work on me.

I love the skirt on you! Definite keep.
I think the jacket is too small, not only from the back but I can see it from the front too - I think the rule is that jackets don't have to be worn done up if they work better undone, but they should look like they *can* close, and this one does not. Don't worry about the size number, a better fit will actually be more flattering.
The jeans look like a good fit, on the body con end of the spectrum but they fit. Although a looser fit might be trending/more fashiony most people still wear their jeans like this IMHO.
