Thank you for the feedback ladies!!!! Sorry it took me ages to respond as I got super busy!

@Suz and Rae: you are right... The softer shirt fabrication (the portofino) worked with the low rise pant. I seemed to look a bit more balanced now that I look at the pics again.

@Vicky and Annie: I wore the high rise itch the Gap shirt yesterday and received a lot of compliments. Looks like this combo worked as well, though it gave a more polished, business casual look.

Overall, I've re-experimented with both looks and they both seem to work. I guess it all depends on what I'm dressing for.

Thanks again for the feedback ladies! I really appreciate it!

I prefer the higher rise, because I feel like it nips in your waist a bit - which is contrary to the others, but there it is. LOL

(Also: *Portofino love high five* It's the first button front I've truly loved in my life)

I think probably the higher rise with both. It looks dressier. The low rise look more casual.
Vickie

I agree with Suz. The lower rize elongates the torso, IMO. And with a soft blouse like this, it confuses the eye as to where your actual body is. Even if you fill in a lot of the shirt, the eye sort of assumes there is an hourglass waist in there. But then when you add a structured waist, it reveals the true width of the waist. I hope that made a tiny bit of sense, lol... too early in the am!

It's really tough to judge with the angle of the photos. It can be so tough to take the photos, I know.

From what I can tell, I actually prefer the lower rise. And I think the tops look fine tucked. You could try a semi-tuck, too, especially with the Portofino. Just tuck the front of it in (near the belt buckle) and let the sides hang down a bit. It makes a pleasing proportion.

I'm having a hard time telling by the photos, but I think the higher rise look better with the 2 tops.

So I've taken Angie's feedback on a previous thread regarding my Flares rediscovery. I purchased a Portofino Shirt from Express because its nice and flowy (purple shirt. #1). I also had the length of a Gap Fitted Boyfriend shirt altered (green/navy print #2). My tailor suggested that I tuck the shirt in and let it slightly blouse over. But it didn't work well with my AE Artist jeans (I'm wearing them in 1 and 2). When I was at the tailor's I was wearing my NYDJ Sarah bootcuts, which is a higher rise than the AE's but they seem to look better tucked ( #3 & #4).

I'm having a rough time being objective and I'm also quite boggled by this. Being wide waisted and IT/apple, you would think that I'd look narrower in low rise jeans, right?

Here's the pic legend
#1 Portofino with AE low rise Artist
#2 Fitted BF shirt with AE low rise Artist
#3 Fitted BF shirt with NYDJ Sarah bootcut
#4 Portofino with NYDJ Sarah bootcut

Should I switch my flares over to the higher rise variety? Or do they really look better on low rise?

PS Sorry about the crappy photos!
