I like it, and I'm going to second T-Rex, about wearing it with skinnies. I immediately thought of Audrey Hepburn - big sweater, skinnies, ballet flats. I think you can get many stylish years out of this sweater, until it falls apart

You look fab in that outfit. The sweater is perfect with that skirt, and it will go with slim pants as well, jeans or otherwise. I agree with others that the style has longevity. I like the way the sweater collapses on itself in photo 1, so you don't see all that volume that you're showing with your arms out in photo 2. I have a couple of Eileen Fisher sweaters with that kind of cut, and I love how elegant they make me feel, even though they are as comfy as loungewear.

EF isn't known for making one season wonders. Now, if you see the exact same style in Forever 21, Top Shop, or the like then you have to be careful! Enjoy.

So many EF'ers! Thanks IK and cade! And I know what you mean, Sylvie, though I generally like loungewear to be washable (cats! crumbs!)
Suz, I refrained from saying "waving to Suz" re: the cowlneck, but we are tweaking each other via ESP, I think, and I hope in great fun, as I so appreciate all your comments and feedback, and you do not have to remain silent just because I can be stubborn ! I like this neckline because it adds a bit of something but doesn't get in the way at work. I actually like soft drapey cowls but have to watch for too much "stuff". Thistle, thanks for chiming in! You have a good eye, and also I appreciate that you say both yay and nay as you see it.

I have many a summer or winter knit by EF and all of them have past the one year mark with flying colors. Today I am wearing a linen knit cardigan that has about five years on it and it looks and acts like the day I bought it. To my eye, this is a basic in a neutral color that should last a while. Btw, I cannot wear many greys well, and the 'ash' of this year is (sadly) among them.

That style will last forever (far longer than the sweater, since knits don't last all that long) and it looks fantastic on you. Absolutely perfect. And since I have put myself on notice from saying anything about necklines, I will refrain from saying what I want to say about flattery, aside from that. :-)

Oh yes, the EF sweater will be in "semi-retirement" when it becomes lounge wear. It will be out to pasture in a sense, spending it's days lounging on the sofa with you while you drink coffee or hot chocolate or a nice chilled glass of white wine on your days off.

I have an affinity for cowl necks. I like the idea that a formerly cowl neck deprived fashion lover such as yourself will now more fully discover the joys of the cowl neck. It feels cozy, not just in terms of actual warmth but also in terms of how it feels psychologically to have that extra fabric draped around your neck. But it's not binding or physically intrusive the way a turtleneck can be. And it has greater potential to look casually elegant than a turtleneck can, at least from my POV.

Enjoy it!

MNsara, thanks; I am a total EF rube, and I guess that shows. I avoided most of her things because I don't have the shoulders or frame for a lot of the styles, and need more structure. And too long-waisted for the really short tops.
If I got this, that should probably be it for this style this year--if I am keeping the VC high-low pullover (with its different neckline and in a much cooler knit that works for spring and fall) , and then the EF for cold days, I'd have enough of the knitted big-over slimmer (skirts and pants) silhouette to keep me busy.

That's quite an iconic EF sweater style. The cozy knit and neck have been around with gentle variations for 10 years or more (maybe IK will chime in), and I think the subtle hi-low hemline is what's making it current (as opposed to the more cropped boxy ones from 5-10 years ago).

So, I think you're pretty safe in the style looking good beyond this year too :-)

I like the way it looks on you, and the way it fits too! I did have trouble with some her cozier knits pilling for me. The ones that didn't hold up well were called cocoon knits. I loved them, but they didn't love me back. Or maybe that was just me :-\

T-Rex, that is a good concept that did cross my mind, including that currently it is very jeans-worthy, so I can get dual use from it as a casual evening out warm winter sweater and such, though the target use for now would be good, simple workwear pieces. And it is precisely soft and cozy enough for loungewear, though out of my league to use EF for that right off the bat.

Is it soft and cushy? It looks from the photos that it might have that heathery texture that I personally like a lot.

I see it as easily having at least a couple of seasons of being in fashion, although it may transition into being a more casual sweater with skinny jeans over time. I don't think the roomy sweater with slim jeans will every truly be out of style. If it ever does, I'm in trouble.

If you ever find that it isn't quite right even for a casual jeans outfit, and if it is super comfy, I think it would make a perfect lounge piece with soft pants. And since it's pretty roomy throught the body, you could easily layer in colder weather with camis or tanks underneath.

This EF "T-neck" oversized, moderately high-low styled sweater on sale from Garnet Hill ended up on my doorstep.( Long story that began by cleaning up paper piles to throw away the GH spring catalog--oh well!)

I took a chance on it because turtlenecks and cowlnecks were on my list to try more of, rather than more plain necks, and yet most sweaters are scoop or V neck. I usually can't wear much of EF because the necklines are too low.

I had a more classic sweater style in mind for "basics"; this cut is beyond "fluid". But, I love how it seems to really "make" the outfit. It's also in a super-cozy, toasty warm merino knit of some kind that is soft and squishy and not itchy. So it is both a mild "statement" and comfortable, FFBO at the same time.

Shown normal view and in Incredible Hulk view. When worn under the lab coat, the drama of the style is not very obvious, which sometimes paradoxically can be a good thing. But for other occasions it would be its big self. It also is just long enough in front to work with pants, so that's a key feature (would probably wear a tank under, to prevent midriff malfunctions).

Would this be a one-year stand only? This style probably is more extreme than would qualify for "investment" wardrobe, though being on sale would help the budget factor a bit--yes? Or no, it has some staying power? Would be interested in your thoughts on how you think this looks for me and also how you consider longevity vs. right-now happy and get the right distribution.
