Totally understand the need of light/white topper for the warm months. The jacket in the photos indeed fits you well but you're right that a cropped version would look better with dresses and high waist pants. Years ago I found a linen cropped motto jacket from H&M in natural color which is my current summer topper for dresses. Regular length jackets do not look good to me even with knee length dresses. So with the current trends being midi dresses and high waists I would search for a cropped jacket.

Smittie, I already own two blue denim jackets and am looking to add a lighter color for a crisper work look. I do think I’ll try to muster up the courage for a bit more hunting as you’re right, the rewards are great.
Cardiffgirl: my beef with polyester has changed considerably with a toddler in the mix. I’ll just get more wear out of things that don’t need babying nor ironing :).
Suntiger: alas, boden isn’t an option in Belgium, only uk webshop with expensive paid international returns *sobbing a little*

I like the denim jacket too. Could you swap out the buttons or paint over them to mute the color a bit?
Alternately, Toban got a similar one in cream with bronze buttons-Boden I think.

I really like the dress on you.Personally I avoid polyester if possible but if you love it and would wear it ,it does suit you.l definitely prefer the white denim jacket to the other one.You will get loads of wear out of this in the summer but I would try on a shorter length one before you commit. As you rightly identified dresses and high waisted trousers can take a shorter jacket.

I think the jean jacket topper fits well, but I think a blue one would work better with the darker, muted, colours you show. Or a black one.
Also, I'm sure you can find one that's more cropped with less shiny buttons. I know it's work, but it is worth it to get something to your exact specs. Although I think the jacket length is good with the dresses, it would be even better if it were a bit more cropped.

I really like the head-to-toe pattern of the dress. Really wonderful on you. Practical too, as it is easy to wash.

I think the lenght of the denim jacket would be good for pants. For high waisted and dresses maybe a bit shorter is better. The shiny buttons would bother me. The dress looks a bit big on you. But this is all ylf perfectionism of course.

I love the shoes the most, so you are not allowed to return those. As for the dress, it looks nice on you and is a relatively versatile piece BUT do you love it? If you NEED a dress, then keep - but if this is a bit of a wildcard purchase, wait until something that really grabs you comes along. Too often, I have talked myself into buying something that was useful but not exactly right, only to find a few weeks later a better option comes along.

As for the white denim jacket, I don't think it works with the midi dress, but I do like it with your dress in #4 and the fit is good.

Thanks everyone!
Runcarla: I have the opposite going on: never liked midi length but overexposure has made me get used to it and now I want one too! My knee lengths no longer feel fresh - though I’ll continue to wear them and try to have fun with the styling.
Fifth: interesting suggestion, hadn’t even considered wearing the dress in fall!
Shevia: you’d think I’d easily find a cropped denim jacket, but no such luck. The ones I’ve seen so far are super boxy and wide in the arms, that’s not for me.

Love the dress - I think it will actually be really useful for summer and winter (add tights, boots and maybe a turtleneck underneath). I prefer the denim jacket but if you're not in love then maybe continue the hunt? And the shoes are great too - good haul!

Shoes - KEEP
Denim jacket - KEEP

I agree with returning the first jacket. I'm not sold on the dress. Though I quite like the pattern, the garment itself seems to swamp you. However, feel free to disregard my opinion - I might be developing a poison eye for midi length dresses, though I know they are trending.

So I’ve been shopping again. I had very good intentions of finding flat summery shoes (but interesting ones) and a cream or white topper. I’ve been sort of on the hunt for a white denim jacket to wear with my slouchy pants as well as dresses. Own quite a few with a touch of white in the print so thought that would be a great completer piece.
I’ve found my shoes (all pics): don’t talk me out of them because this pair is comfy and hits the mark between simple and interesting at just my spot
Topper remains elusive: the pleather one in pic 1 is too beige and crumply to my tastes. The denim jacket is still on the fence: slightly off-white, fits well, but the buttons are super shiny and I’m now thinking maybe a cropped version would work better for the intended purpose (two example dresses, the trousers would all be high-waisted).
And then this dress: saw it online, fell a bit in love, ordered and fell further. But do I need another statement piece/wildcard? I could wear it for work or for pleasure, and it scratches my itch for a midi dress (am suffering it since seeing all your pretty numbers!). It’s polyester so not very breathable, otoh super easy to care for and that’s good in my life right now.
What do you think? Any reco’s in particular with regard to my topper quest?
Should clarify that I want it for indoor use, instead of a blazer or cardigan.
