I have a similar body type and get similarly self-conscious about certain dresses. I'll second the above recommendations for a slip and add that sometimes throwing on a basic pair of black tights (not Spanx) is enough for me to feel more comfortable.

Thanks for all the input!

I've decided to leave the dress at home, despite loving the colour. I did try it on with a slip, and it helped a bit, but I'm going to hold out until I can compare it with the other style. I had thought about bringing it with me, but I didn't want the liability, in case something happened to the dress and I wanted to return it. Oh well--a leather pencil skirt and a high-waisted pencil skirt have taken its place.

I think you have lovely curves and the dress looks amazing on you.
The problem is in the angle of the camera!

I think it is a beautiful colour for you but it does cling a bit. Maybe a slip would work but if you're in a time crunch to pack and don't have a suitable slip already that might be a problem. If you're not sure about the dress I'd say leave it at home and reconsider when you get back, assuming of course that you won't be away too long. Alternatively if you have room in your bag you could leave the tags on and take it with and decide on the go.

I'm with E. I do think that the dress is a little clingy, but I don't know that Spanx are needed to fix the problem. Do you have a flowy slip that skims over your curves? That may be all that is needed. If you were to wear the dress as is, I would probably pass, because I know from my own experience that when something clings to me like that, I don't feel beautiful, and I don't wear the garment.

I don't notice any saddlebags in the pic, and that angle is less flattering than how people would see you anyway. That being said, as someone who also has curvier outer thighs, I do have one solution: do you have a slip? Just a regular one, not spanx-y? That will make the dress a bit less clingy & might make you happier.

Let's see... it is a beautiful color for you, the length is perfect, it's comfortable, and it balances your figure.

What's not to love? I vote keep! I think you look gorgeous without the spanx. Wear the dress and be beautiful

I really like the color! The camera angle is making assessment of fit difficult for me. I think it is probably fine.

I didn't see saddlebags. BTW I have a similar body type so empathize but never would have noticed if you hadn't written about it. I like the fit and color I vote keep.

The angle of your camera is making it a bit tougher to gauge how it looks. I think it looks nice and if it works for what you need, keep it. However, if it makes you self-conscious, you may want to think about returning it. I know that when I have clothes that I feel highlight parts of me I'd rather not highlight, I would not wear it as often.

Hey gang,

The last-minute traveling panic has begun, in the middle of a double-shift of work, and an early 6am flight tomorrow.

The question: should I keep the dress?

Pros: It's the *most* flattering colour on me, ideal length for me vis-a-vis comfort, 100% midweight silk, very comfortable.

Possible cons: I have 'saddlebags,' it's genetic, and no amount of workout out or weightlifting will get rid of them. The dress is silky, so it clings to my thighs and saddlebags. I don't do Spanx. Is the clinging here unflattering?

Note that I have a small bust, but the drape in the top of the dress makes me seem larger than I am, and helps to balance the hips.

I have ordered another dress that ties at the waist, is long-sleeved, purple, but I won't have it for this long trip. I'm not opposed to keeping both dresses because I like the material, colours and quality.
