I can kind of see what you're saying with both pieces. The burgundy looks so good on you, and I'm sure you'll find the perfect sweater in that color, even if it's not this one.

The only wrinkle I can think of is whether the denim skirt (or something like it) would go farther in colder weather than the black one you already have, since it seems like a skirt without shorts under it would be easier to wear with hose.

Agree that the first picture is terrific! both #8 and #9 look great and the longer sweater doesn't measure up. Keep looking for the skirt you have in mind, you are definitely on the right track.

Thanks, Caro!
Joy--that's the other thing: the scrunched sleeves do not stay scrunched. Frustrating.
Firecracker--good to know I am not alone in finding that hard to wear. It looked so good in the store, too, dang it. I triedit on with my white jeans--but they make everything look good.
lyn67--thanks! I am glad you like it. I am afraid I would be splittingmy wears, as someone here put it if I keep this skirt--I don't have that manyopportunities to wear skirts to begin with. I don't have a jacket--though that's an excellent idea. I suspect a well fitting jacket would be difficult for me to find.
Momo--thanks! It was difficult to get a non-blurry pic of a kick. :) And thanks for your feedback.

loved the pictures --from the kick to the attempted (and a very good one) to get a view from the back! anyway, i got to #8 and thought, love that one. so i think your assessment on length and flow is spot on. regarding the skirt, if you don't love it, don't keep it, there will be other denim skirts to try later.

Hi Alana
I like the skirt ( and love the fun pose in #1) but you have to love it. I agree with your assessment that the sweater is too long.

Love the kicking, Alana:-). I actually love the new welted sweater, I think it makes a great structured look, and if it's so fine you can always layer it with a great jacket, if worried about the side look.(I do this often:-)). Then, I would keep the denim skirt, too (but am a skirt girl myself-and esp love denim for casuals (grocery shopping again??:-)) or even smart casuals! They are much sturdier in wearing out than others, and completely other vibe! You can always tapper it on sides, for a more pencil shape, don't you!

Your photo in 1 made me smile. Kicking to show a kick pleat! Anyway, I don't see the dark denim skirt as being that different from your black one either. It does look good on you, though. So I would consider keeping it if you think you can use two similar skirts. Kind of a duplicate without being an exact duplicate.
If that idea doesn't appeal to you, I'd pass it on and wait for the denim skirt you really had in mind.
I agree you're on track with your assessment of sweater fits. I like the longer fluid one and the shorter more tailored fitting one. I'd return the longer welted one. That's a hard look to wear for me, too.

More agreement. If you don't love it and feel fab wearing it, NEXT. I like the sweater best scrunched as in 6/7.

Alana, You're totally on the right track IMHO. Everything you said is what I thought - I'd pass on both of these for the exact reasons you state

I finally had a chance to make some returns and pick up a denim skirt I've been anxious to try on for about a week.

I was quite disappointed with the skirt. I had been expecting a denim pencil skirt. (I don't know why.) Instead, this is a denim straight skirt. I don't feel that it is really all that different than the black straight skirt I already own (and which has built in shorts. Such a great thing.) It has a kick pleat--that I wanted to show you it should explain pic #1.

It has 2% spandex--so it even feels like my black skirt. It isn't all soft and stiff simultaneously like a "real" denim skirt. It is also a really dark wash.

What do you all think? Stay or go?

I am not sure it is different enough to earn a place in my small wardrobe, but I am also worried I may never see a denim skirt that fits me ever again.

I returned the bulky dark wine cable knit sweater and picked up this fine gauge knit instead.

I loved it in the store--but now I am wondering--is it too long and clingy? (pic #2 and #3--I tried pulling it up a bit. and #6 & #7 shows it with jeans) It is welted on the bottom--maybe that's what's causing me grief--the fact that it comes back in? Why are welted sweaters considered flattering for apples?)

I mean, it seems I can do long--but only if it fluid (pic #8 ) And I can do clingy, but only if it shorter. (pic #9 ) Am I on the right track with this?

What do you think?
