Eh, I liked the smaller size better... Ya, maybe verging on ghetto fit there - but it's not quite there and the larger size reads dowdy and "falling off" to me.

Hannah, I really like these plaid pants and especially the way you've styled them in 1 and 2. It sounds like you'll be getting one size up and I think a tailor's touch will be just perfect for them as I liked the looks in 1 and 2, but I don't have the best trained eye when it comes to sizing. All the others are winners, too, and I love your casual modern classic style, as you know! Hope the toe is on the mend. Bee stings are really painful and when they heal, they tend to itch (I stepped on one years ago and fortunately the stinger was able to be pulled out). Feel better.

Bump! I have to visit the tailor's this weekend anyway and, if the consensus is the larger of the two pairs, I'd like to bring it along.

I like this style. I think you will adjust to it really quickly. I think the larger size hangs better, but depending how they stay up, maybe you will need to get the waist band nipped in a little.

@Angie and @lyn67, thanks for chiming in; the mere fact that it's not a unanimous "why are you being so self-conscious about the fit?" makes me feel better. Thank you!

Here's the same pants in the next size up. The thighs and hips make me feel less self-conscious, but the waistband is now a bit gappy; as Rae feared, the waist is sagging towards my hips just the tiniest bit. They are also looking more like trousers-with-a-skinny-leg than "skinnies", an unexpected but welcome side effect!

Lastly, I want to explain a bit about the shoes: obviously I wouldn't wear sport sandals with these pants, but I stepped on a bee about 2 hours ago and can't fit my poor toe in anything else at the moment :(.

I'm also IT with skinny ankles and skinnies are my primary pant silhouette of choice, no tipping over here

Thanks for the replies, ladies! I've found that many of the boundary-pushing items I experiment with end up being favourites (case in point: chambray shirt!) so I really appreciate the encouragement here.

I am genuinely surprised by the feedback on fit -- am I really that sensitive to the shape of my thighs?

@sarah: great eye! There's some wool in this blend, so it's definitely got more of a winter vibe. OTOH, I dress primarily for fall (sigh, Seattle) so it will hopefully fit into my closet seamlessly.

@rae: isn't it great? I have the entire 12-month calendar on my wall, it makes me smile everytime I look at it!

I think the pants look good - if you size up, I feel like there will be a saggy crotch issue. I love it with the untucked chambray shirt and cons - you do NOT look like you would tip over!

First of all, I LOVE the pants - an excellent choice for a modern classic woman. Don't go a size larger; in fact true skinnies should be tighter and you have the figure to pull them off. The glen plaid is a traditional pattern and very appropriate for trousers.

Judging from your other photos, I think these pants will work well with your wardrobe. May I suggest pairing them with some red? You have the complection to pull off bright colours and they will give your outfits a tad more interest.

I like the style but prefer the more casual look of 2. In 1 the tuck seems to put the proportions out & your bottom half seems shorter than it is.I'd like to see the pants a little longer with heels for look 1.

I think that they fit you very well, as they don't look like they're meant to be slouchy pants, but a bit more fitted (given the structured fabric). They look like fall/winter pants to mewhereas your other outfits are more summery, so it's hard for me to judge if they are "you" or not. I really like how you've styled them in #1, and that outfit would look great with a black jacket, as well.

... admittedly, patterned pants only feel "crazy" to neophytes like me ...

I'd been on the hunt for gray non-denim pants for a while, and stumbled across these glen plaid skinnies on sale. "Hmm", I thought, "they stretch my style boundaries in not one but TWO ways! Let's try them." Now that they're here, however, I'm having second thoughts.

I would characterize my style as casual modern classic; I occasionally play with texture and the odd stripe, but certainly not all-over plaid. And as an IT, skinnies make me feel like ... I dunno ... like my big body is going to tip over my little ankles at any moment; I don't even have a little bit of reassuring scrunch to balance out the proportions.

Oh YLF gurus, what say you? (1) do I need to size up? (I personally think so). (2) does this silhouette work for my body type? (3) do they fit within the style I aspire to?

I've thrown together two outfits based on pieces I love; for comparison, I've also included three outfits that feel very "me".
