Karie, HA! Too funny. They in general will be bluish -- but does the blue look like it has more of a green cast or a true blue cast?

Lighting can be tricky so it's hard for me to say for sure which one works better with your complexion. I do know as we age sometimes certain paler colors can make us look more washed out while slightly brighter versions of the same color can really made our skin look glowy.

Here's a trick I learned a long time ago to determine which colors work best on me. You generally want to determine whether more of the undertones of your skin are cool or warm.

So fair skinned folk with cooler undertones often carry off cooler pale pinks much better than ones with warmer undertones, whereas the warmer undertoned skin-types usually look optimal in more warm pinks (coral, peach. etc.)

Look at the inside of your wrist and the underlying veins that you should be able to see there. Do the veins under your skin there look a bit more green or more blue?

If green (like mine) the undertones of your complexion are warm. So coral, peach, etc. will generally "do better things" for your complexion.

If the veins are bluer, then your complexion's natural undertones are more cool and cool pinks, violets, etc, generally will best compliment your skin tone.

This doesn't mean you can't wear the cooler shades if you're warm or vice/versa (because, hey, if you feel good in it and like it then I say wear it!) but if you're looking for a way to determine which color best accents and optimizes your complexion overall this is a handy trick.

I know I have a "peaches and cream" complexion. So my best shades are warmer (but I still do a lot of cooler shades as well, I'm just careful about putting certain shades up near my face, like shades of clothing that are ivory with gray/green undertones (instead of a warmer ivory) have a tendency to make me look sickly and zombie-like).

Hope this little trick helps some!

I do find that the lighting looks a bit different in both pictures, but I think the coral is more flattering. I too look like a ghost and I never wear iced pink tones. Coral is my best friend and I find it makes me glow in the same way you do with it.

Definitely the coral! The pink doesn't look bad or anything, but I thought even before reading the other posts the coral just lights you up in a way the pink doesn't.

Suz, it's hard to get an accurate WIW in my house because of all the warm colors - from the shades of beige color washing in the living room to the goldenrod color in the kitchen, to more warm tones in the bedrooms, I guess we really do paint to showcase ourselves in the best lighting possible!

And I actually think of black and white as universally flattering - maybe because i think it tends to look avant garde and trendy.

Re new neutrals, who is Nancylee?

Karie -- what the others have said about the lighting, etc. My first impulse was that the coral looks fabulous on you. I was much less taken with the pink. But I know, also, that the lighting looks a bit different in each photo and also, the distance, as gryffin said. Plus, the background is a bunch of warmer colours as well. Which affects how the whole looks.

Having said that, you really do glow in the coral.

So...will that affect how often you wear black and white? As a spring, maybe you will be working with Nancylee to figure out new neutrals?

I agree with you on the ON button-downs. I ordered one and was sad because it was too big, even in the smallest size. It was so comfy--not stiff at all. But I had to take it back. Oh well!

OK, so the pink shirt is now in the "return to store" pile. I have a real weakness for Gap/Old Navy button down shirts. I like the way they fit, and they are super comfortable. SandyG, KellyGirl, and Gigi, Shemarie, and Carter, you talked about the benefits of both, so humm......maybe I should keep both? They were on sale (I say as I put my sale goggles back on)...hummm.......

I slightly prefer the first, but the second is still good. Along the lines of what SandyG said above, if you are neutral in coloring, it might be the case that neither of these is clearly a "winner" but that they are just different. Maybe you'd like to decide based on whether you would like to use your new purchase to make more warm outfits or more cool ones.

I know it's so hard to tell with the lighting, and looking on a computer screen. I think I'm a spring, my veins are mostly green, some are bluish-purple, my eyes are blueish green (but more blue than green) with gold flecks. I tried doing one of those self color analysis books, only to end up being all over the place - first I thought I was autumn, then summer, then spring - good grief!

I like both colors on you, Karie, but the first is my favorite. Very pretty! And I completely hear you on the ghost/vampire color/complexion...my hair, eyes, and skin tone have virtually no contrast and I have to avoid the sun at all costs as I burn in literally 30 seconds! I'm always trying to find colors that don't make people ask if I've been ill or not slept well! I tend to favor colors in the warm coral/pink categories and avoid most pastels.

Karie - it's hard to see in the photos since the distance is different and I am not sure the light is the same. That being said it looks like the coral loves you. Being blonde I would think warm colors would work better for you than cool. In real light what do you think? In the photo the coral makes your cheeks glow and if you compare you arms on either side the coral also seems to warm your skin. But lighting is tricky. All things being equal, I have a feeling the warmer colors love your more!!

Most of the time I am at a loss as too which colors look good with my complexion, which by the way, is ghost. Seriously! I generally look like I've had the blood drained out of me - I would have been a good choice for one of the extra vampires in the "Twilight" movies.

The first one is a peachy coral, and the second is pink. Is one color better than the other for my complexion, or is it a toss-up? Rather than spend an hour in the store deciding, I thought I'd turn it over to my smart and color-wise YLF friends - one of these is going back. Which color is the keeper? They will both play equally well in my wardrobe, and both are colors I don't have a lot of.
