I have a skirt similar to this, and to combat the stuffiness, I try to pair it with something a little more fun on top. Have you tried it with a fitted sweater in a bold or maybe a jewel tone? I think it would look lovely with a good color on top to balance out the more conservative bottom. </p> <p>You could also try a bomber jacket or a fun sweater/jacket. A petite would have been too short. So those are things you could try, plus non-classic colors--maybe citron or other, cobalt (that may be classic but it pops, at least) or pattern-mixing.</p> <p>It depends on whether you do need pencil skirts, and how hard they are to find. I base so much on fit, because I have about a 12" difference between waist and low hip, so even tailoring is a bear, if the basic fit isn't there--if the fit is really &nbsp;good, I can make various colors &amp; patterns work.</p> <p>Have you tried on some of the pencil skirts&nbsp; &nbsp;at Ann Taylor?
