Suggestion: Take your pair needing new soles to the cobbler now, and bring along the burgundy boots. See what they say about a fix for the gap. It couldn't hurt to ask, and you've got a repair chore off your list.

Love the green -- please keep!

I think the green boots are stunning. They will look good with navy and gray most definitely. The burgundy boots are lovely, but if you are only keeping one pair, I would choose the green.

I have the Rieker Sybille boot and they are heading into their 4th winter. We have had bad winters here in the North East and I have worn them a lot. Mine gape at the top a little too as I have very skinny calves. I am willing to accept some gap in a more casual boot as I can tuck my jeans in to fill it up ( plus I can get exhausted searching for a boot to fit my calf ). A dressier boot that I would wear to go out with a dress or skirt I am more fussy about. I have a suede BCBG pair that I had adjusted by the cobbler 14 years ago and I still love them.
I like the green boots as the color is different if they are comfortable I say go for it.

I was going to say that I bought green booties last year and the color looks similar to the ones you posted. Then I followed the link and saw that they are also made by the same company. I am linking them so you can see how alike the colors are.

I found the color to act much like a neutral. These were either my most worn or second most worn booties last winter. They are really comfortable and held up well (I often wear my booties outside in the snow). If the color is holding you back, I would say get them.

I am not sure about the taller boots but others have already commented so I will leave it.

It looks like I'll definitely be keeping the green booties then! They're by the Earth brand; here they are at 6pm.com (I ordered from Amazon though; it was a bit cheaper & has free return shipping). I'm usually a 6.5/7 or Euro 37, but I ended up having to size up to a 7.5 to accommodate my wider forefoot & preference for hand knit socks. Quite a bit of built-in cushioning in the sole for those who like that. I can answer any other questions you might have, either via pm or on the thread. :)

Lots to think about re: the burgundy boots. I ordered them from Zappos, so I can hang on to them for awhile, and keep the option to return them as long as I don't wear them out, in case anything better shows up. But I seriously doubt any boot that will actually fit my calves (which are 12" around) will be available in my price range, meet my expectations for weather durability & comfort, be knee high, and come in a colour that isn't black, dark brown, or cognac. I had a quick troll through Zappos & absolutely nothing fit those criteria.

Anyway, I'll reply more thoroughly tomorrow! I just wanted to let people know what the brand was in case they wanted to nab a pair. I think they have other styles in the same colour.

I love the green booties - green is a surprisingly good neutral. I'd also like to know the brand.

You seem to want to keep the burgundy boots so why not? Yes, they gap but you can tuck in skinny pants and/or knit some cuffs.

The green ones are totally fab! I'm also curious to know the brand.

I like the burgundy ones, but you need to be comfortable with the gaping -- and it seems like that would mean the boot is not as effective at keeping you warm, too. Unless you are really in love with them and don't mind making yourself some boot cuffs, you may want to keep shopping around a bit to see if you can find a better fit.

Another vote for those killer green boots! Not crazy over the burgundy because of the fit. I do think you need a pair of "to the knee" boots though.

I love both colors. The green fit perfectly and seem like they would go well with your style. I really like the look and style of the burgundy, but you have to decide how comfortable you feel with the gape. That's a problem I don't have, so it's hard to judge. You don't wear a ton of jeans in the winter to fill it, so it depends on if you're comfortable with it.

I really like the green lace ups. Those are indisputable.

I also like the burgundy, but like the other, I also think the gap might be too wide. I read a post on one of the blogs recently (was it this one) where they used knee highs to fill the gap. So they scrunched the knee highs down so they just peek out. They also showed how to do it with leg warmers, but I don't think that will work with the burgundy boots. Anyway, I thought it was clever and cute. Maybe that will work for you?

I think if you can fill or fix the gap, or are comfortable with it, you should keep them too. Ps You look super cute in your dress and Paisley scarf.

SCORE on the ankle boots -- those are fantastic, and what a fun colour for you! Will go so well with navies.

As for the tall ones, I love the colour, height, and practicality. I wonder if it is possible to have a cobbler look at them to suggest ways of tightening them at the top. The gap would bother me more due to the way it could contribute to slouch later on. It's worth investigating and maybe keeping anyway if you will wear a lot with pants.

While I like the style of the tall boots the loose fit does bother me. They look like they have elasticized gussets too, so they're really too big.

Also, I can honestly tell you that a gap at the top of boots is a problem I've never ever had to deal with. I will try to think of the other perspective next time I'm trying on a pair of knee high boots and cursing because they're too tight to zip all the way up.

The green are fabulous, a cool green, I agree will be very versatile. Must keep.

The tall boots do look a little wide for tights. For skinny jeans I bet the gap would be fine, even necessary. So it's a dilemma; I know what it's like to not want to spend eons hunting, shipping, returning. What else would be in the pipeline for tall snowy boots?

I have a strong opinion that you should keep the green boots. They're an unusual colour, but a nice one, and would gently spice up grey and navy-based outfits.

I think they'd look fabulous with navy. Blue and green should always been seen.

I also like the taller boots, but feel less strongly about them. They look extremely rugged and durable and perfect for very wintery days (way beyond -13C I might add :-)). I mean, I guess there's gape at the top, but it does seem like you wouldn't see that with blacker tights/leggings/pants. But I guess the question is, would you be able to find a really comfy warm boot with less gape at the top? Maybe it's worth looking around, I don't know.

ETA: I wonder if you could get a cobbler to fix the gape.

The tall ones do look a little wide, at least how you have styled them here. But try with pants, thick knee socks, or even just less contrasting leggings and see how it looks.

LOVE the green.

I have to say the first pair do look a bit too wide. Sorry. But I absolutely LOVE the green lace-up ankle booties. I want to steal them off your feet...

Those are lovely boots!
Honestly I don't think the burgundy gape too much...if it were sticking to your leg wouldn't that be very uncomfortable after a while?
Also,if you love them enough to want to bring in knitting into the picture, I really think you should keep them coz they'll make you happy & get used a lot! ☺
For the ankle length boots- they are beyond gorgeous...yes very sexy and gothic in a way....I LOVE THEM!

Even though I've now realised I don't really live in a winter-dominant place (instead, my seasons are equally divided), that doesn't make me love boots & booties any less. I envisioned adding a pair of shoes for each season this year, and other than my brown spring oxfords, I wanted to add some colour, since I've got all of my basics covered.

First up are the winter boots; in the deep, snowy winter I found myself wearing the same 3 pairs of boots for at least two months straight. So adding another pair to the line-up would be excellent; both of my snow boots are mid-calf, which when combined with a knee length skirt, leaves my upper calf less than insulated. I found that the Rieker Sybille boots that I have were just as effective as 'official' snow boots & with their knee high wool lining made wearing skirts cosy, even when it was 8 degrees out (-13C) and blustery. Since they've also held up well & are super comfortable for my fussy feet, I thought I'd just order another pair. These are also called Sybilles & have the same winter-friendly features, but the detailing is a bit different. And of course they're burgundy. I'm in absolute love with them as objects, but sadly they're also a bit wider at the top than my other pair (and the buckle is already at its tightest setting). Is the gape too much? I'll be wearing these in a casual, everyday context, so I don't need them to look polished. I didn't style them here, just pulled them on with my outfit, & the light grey leggings show the problem more clearly than most of my darker tights would. Also, I knit, so I could totally whip up some boot cuffs...I'm starting to sound desperate, aren't I? Lol; I really don't want to have to go weeding through a million options for vigorous winter-durable & my feet-friendly boots in colours other than black or dark brown again. Thoughts? If I kept them, I know they'd get a ton of wear.

Next up are a pair of green lace-up ankle booties; they were on a great sale, and I couldn't resist such an unusual colour (...especially since green has faerie connotations...and the styling is a bit witchy...). They turned out to be quite comfortable too. I think they'd go easily with all of the grey in my wardrobe; what do you think about combining them with navy blue? And taupes & cool browns? Although I love this shade of green, I've almost never come across it while thrifting, so I have one short-sleeved tee and a slouchy, grandpa-style cardigan that I just got as part of my f/w refresher, and that's it. So they'd be 'going with' most outfits rather than matching; do you think the colour is versatile enough? Other than the neutrals I listed, my main colours tend to be blue-greens, blues, dark reds, pinks, and a sprinkling of purple. I think that the darker colour would help make the suede bits less high-maintenance too; is that the case? (My only suede shoes are light taupe booties that can only come out when the weather is nice.) I'd get that spray protector of course. Any strong opinions on keeping or returning these?

I currently have three pairs of ankle boots: vintage-style brown hiking boots that are sadly probably going to have to be replaced next year, the higher maintenance taupe ones I mentioned, and a slightly dressier grey pair of Fryes, which I need to get to the cobbler for some vibram soles at some point (so that I stop feeling bad about subjecting their leather soles to the woods!). I wear lace up boots a lot in transitional weather, and I'm sure these would be in the rotation. If I do return them, I probably won't grab another pair to replace them, just wait until spring to do some more shoe browsing.

All opinions welcome of course! I'm leaning towards keeping both but am prepared to be talked out of that, obviously, or I wouldn't be doing this post. ;)
