@Jenni NZ: Actually, I avoided even trying on barrels for a long time because I have bowed (bow?) legs and felt the shape would accentuate the issue. Wide legs hide that flaw but I wasn't wearing mine much because air travels up them and make my legs cold. I finally figured out that long johns and tights solve that problem as long as the legs are loose enough.

@Robin: The jeans didn't look like a tripping hazard in the first photos because I was wearing slightly higher heels. The half inch or so in height doesn't really show in pics, but what a difference IRL!

@unfrumped: I am finally figuring out more underlayer options beyond Uniqlo Heattech. Took me long enough!

Actually, I am a tucker. Leaving hems out rarely give me good proportions since my trunk is extra long and my legs are extra short. Plus, tucking keeps the air from going up my back. I will probably wear the puffer vest (first Find) the most with these jeans. The other vests are a few samples of what I will also wear. I rarely have occasion to wear true outerwear, but we keep our house much, much cooler in winter than most.

Thank y'all for your thoughts.

I think you forget about the different names of jeans styles and go on your reaction to how they fit and feel. And the undelayering option can really extend the seasons of wear. That is something I’ve been paying attention to, as my wardrobe is too big, in part due to adding pieces that only work in one season by fabric weight, yet would work silhouette-wise across seasons.

I will note that one of the best features on these jeans on you is how well they seem to fit in the waist and hip. So it looks great with a tucked top. The toppers you show work, but you’d look fab in a much shorter topper, practically cropped. Or just high- hip. Not saying to go buy more but just wondering what you may have. Nor saying we always need to achieve some “perfect” or of -the-moment outfit proportions instead of mixing and matching items we like. I fall prey to that and hence, sometimes get stymied on how to wear pieces I love individually but have some kind of unrealistic expectations that every combination should fit some ideal look. Hence, don’t wear each item enough.

Well, that’s a long way of saying keep and hem— I think it’s REALLY important you don’t limit your footwear options, as then you would not grab & go as much - but also find a few good ways to show off the great fit.

I couldn't tell in the first pictures that they were long enough to created a tripping hazard. I would definitely hem in that case. I still think they are super cute and you pull it off with ease.

I feel Donna that they don’t look like barrel legs really. They look safer shorter, so I think up to you if you mind if the shape looks more like usual wide legs. It wouldn’t bother me but I don’t wear trendy jeans- hardly any jeans at all in fact.

So sorry to post and disappear. I didn’t want to respond until I had pinned them up a bit and tried them with a couple of new (tags still on) toppers. Truth be told nearly all my toppers are fairly short and none fall below my crotch point so they don’t fall where the pants are full.

Angie, Suz, LJP, Kate, JAileen, Indigoprint, slim cat, Janet, wisdom, Jaime, Helena, UmmLila, Karie, Irina, Sisi, lyn67, RobinF, and anyone else who I may have. inadvertently left out: Thank you for not only reading but also taking the time to post. I really appreciate that and you had me thinking long and hard. I am making a trip out to Nordstrom tomorrow so I knew I had to make a decision.

These jeans don’t flare out like normal wide legs and they also don’t really taper. Believe it or not, I really like how ridiculous they look. I came to my senses however and decided that it was stupid to keep the original length because it would limit my shoe choices. They came with a pretty thick (1 inch?) hem as shown in the last photo. This is what they look like when pinned up by a hem’s width. Not much difference, right? But it allows me to wear most of my shoes without tripping.

Any opinions on the two toppers? I am keeping the plaid one for sure, but the sleeves are rolled twice so I have to decide whether I will bite the bullet and have them shortened.

You have the same issue I have with barrel pants. To hem or not to hem, that is the question. I agree that these look like if you hem them you will lose the barrel shape. I quite like them long as they are now. They drape nicely and don't drag on the floor.

I wouldn't cut as then they can change to complete wide legs. 6 years in the trend and I don't have barrels:-( as I just don't know how to style them with my own existing wardrobe items. I only visualised them with a bare ankle to date and dainty feminine shoes, which I don't do nowadays. Would love to see hogy you style them for winter, also-what outerwear will pop on(I guess the shorter ones?) still very curious about exact styling.

I like them, even at the longer length. You could try shortening them, but they will probably lose the barrel shape (pin them up to see). They look more like wide legs, but if they’re comfy and they fit, I say that’s a win.

Great fit! Pin them up to see how you like them a bit shorter. As Angie says, the drape makes them look like wide legs at that length and works if you don't want to go shorter.

The drape of the jeans gives the length some slack, to my eye. They look like wide legs, rather than barrels.
