I'm with Deborah. I think a heel and a darker shoe will make these work for you. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Caro, I saw Janet's thread this morning and I think the foot wear could be what makes the success or otherwise of these pants. I tend to feelt that a heel is important in making these work. I am looking forward to seeing some styling options as I think they are worth playing with.

I think you look fine in the outfit, but I don't know if it helps to call them tuxedo pants.
If you start with the original version of tuxedo trousers, and then change the fabric, and change the stripe to a light color, which I can't tell is even satin, and change the shape, then are they still tuxedo-style pants (casual or not) ?

I think the light stripe is putting me off--it moves so far away from tuxedo style, plus all the other changed elements.

Hmm--historically, did track pants borrow from tuxedo trousers in some evolutionary way?

So they're some kind of pants, but the question is whether they fit in a particular style goal for you. It sounds like they might, but not as "tuxedo pants" . . If you say, I like a comfortable knit skinny pant with some decoration and then you'd want to compare them to another version of that. I'm not sure that I would try to make these work with velvet and other dressy items. But heck maybe that is like the puffer vest--you wear these comfy pants with dressier items and create a higher level of style.

Agree that in some new stylings, dark and more polished type of footwear would help re-direct to fashion-forward pants rather than track pants.

Thanks for your help everyone. I'll have to play with these & post some pics.
Janet these are a local brand (I'm in Australia) but they are a ponte knit, stretchy with a front zip, no belt loops). I have a velvet tux jacket & some darker boots so I'll start there.

I tried on a couple of jackets this morning when I had these pants on, and I think they can be worn casually, just not with athletic shoes or anything that looks like gear. I think they could look good with oxfords or booties.

I like how Janet wore hers today. Adding the lux of velvet was an effective way to reinforce the association with tuxedos as opposed to track pants.

I'm not sure if it's possible to wear these very casually without activating the track pant vibe.

To my eye, They seem a little scrunchy at the knees. I think that's attributing to the casual vibe. As mentioned a darker shoe would look dressier. You in no way look like you forgot to put on your real pants. They seem very flattering as is.

I don't find them too young at all! But like JuneBug, I think you need a different shoe to downplay the track pant vibe and play up the tuxedo vibe. Maybe a boot or oxford? Doesn't have to be a dressy heel, since I know you wanted these for casual wear. With boots and a long button-down, I think they will look all tuxedo.

I too find these pants resembling track pants than tuxedo casuals- possibly it might fall better if you wear a slight heel? It sort of gathers at the bottom with the loafers you have on in the photograph, so if this would be your footwear of choice then the track pant vibe stays in my opinion. But I don't think it looks too young on you, and worn with a nice button down and a blazer jacket and preferrably a slight heel, would work well when offset with regular clothing!

Well I'm surprising myself by really liking these and I think they fit you/look great on you Caro. In looking at some pics that Angie has shown lately with track type pants dressed up, I can see these working. Janet has given some great ideas on how to wear these. Might I suggest you try a few stylings and post the pics for feedback before you pull off the tags and completely decide? That might help in your decision. I do think they look good on you though and definitely not too young.

It's hard to see the details, but hey look like the ones I got recently:

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....--opinions

What kid of fabric are they? Are they from Macy's? Mine are INC. Obviously I may be biased, but I like them! I don't think they're too young at all.

I would style them with a dressier shoe to offset the track pant vibe. In fact, I think I'll wear mine today. Thinking about combining with heeled booties, black and white houndstooth blouse and red moto jacket.

My initial impression was that they would work in very casual outfits too. I guess that would be the track pant vibe. Sorry. I do think they look good but would limit them to a more casual outfit.

Well they do kind of have a track pant vibe, but then again, I don't think it looks bad on you. So if you like them as a more casual look, then I think you're totally pulling them off.

Thanks Caro the pics are now bigger. I am getting a track pant vibe from these:). For a tuxedo pant I rather prefer a more structured/tailored slim or straight leg trouser as it seems dressier and is less likely to be mistaken for something else. I'm not sure these are good enough for you.

Honesty required please.

I bought these tuxedo style casual pants today. They aren't expensive but I'm not too sure if this is something I can do. I feel really good in them but then again they feel like track pants. Don't want to look like the old lady who forgot to put her real pants on.

If keep how would I style them?

Sorry for terrible photos. Imo they fit with my style words - comfortable, androgynous, organic, creative, urban.
